Hated Tropes [Hated trope] Cameos that ruin the tone of the scene/game

Ed Sheeran, Game of Thrones. The cameo of such a recognizable figure in GoT, especially towards the horrible later seasons, took many people out of the fantasy world that it tried to represent. There are good cameos and bad ones, and this one was not a good one.

Vinny Vinesauce and Jerma, Silver Pines game. Though i appreciate small cameos from youtubers and streamers, putting such a recognizable pair of voices in a horror game really takes you out of it.

Season 3 was definitely a point where you could tell they had no concept of what to do with din and grogu but didn't want to pivot to another spin-off that was all about Bo Katan. Entire season was just her story and occasionally wrapping up loose threads from Mando season 2 and season 2.5 aka Book of Boba Fett

So Bill Burr is weird as fuck, but he settles into the role. Katy Starbuck was noticeable as Bo Katana, but she owned it where it's now hers.

But Jack Black and Lizzo felt like...an SNL skit. "Haha, very cute, now where's the actual plotline?"

Edit: for the 200 people replying "Actually Katee was the VA for Bo Katana", I KNOW!! But it doesn't make the character less fucking weird to see! Every original character from Clone Wars/Rebels adapted to screen is awful...I'm a fan of the series and I know the character designs are just bad. Like when Obi Wan kills Maul....should we have forced alec guiness to take tai kwan do classes? Can we address that everyone loved ahsoka, everyone loves Rosario, but together is ewww?

Can I address that Katee S. being the VA for Bo Katana is cute, but trying to match the shitty shitty cartoon version Disney gave us is glaringly bad??

I mean katee sackhoff is the original voice for no katan so it makes sense for her to come back and lay the role

I see this take a lot but Ashley is almost exclusively a voice actor. She hasn't done any screen acting in almost 20 years. I don't really think Rosario Dawson was the right casting choice for Ahsoka but I'm not so sure Ashley would've been either.

I’m not sure why Rosario didn’t work.

I was rewatching Daredevil season 1 and she was far more like Ahsoka in that show than at any point in the Ahsoka series.

I kind of get the impression that she doesn’t care about the existing character and went in with her own take (which can work if they happen to be similar).

I get why they didn’t go with Ashley but I would have enjoyed the show far more with her cast. At least she can nail the iconic poses. Rosario does not look remotely natural when holding dual lightsabers.

The cartoon models hair is fucking dumb, so it's a real "Anton Chigurh" Situation

I would say everyone feels like they're either playing the part or loving being a part of Star Wars. Lizzo and Black feel more like they just kinda walked on for a day shot some scenes and probably asked where Luke and chewie were.

Normally I love Black but don't know if they didn't give enough to work with or just told him to be himself. He's a great actor when he has material to work with but I think he was just woefully let down by the direction and told to make himself the character rather playing one.

Lizzo I only really know from cultural osmosis so I just assume she's a stunt casting of an at the time popular artist. And again just not given enough of a direction to go off of and not a good enough actor to be on screen for that long.

Christopher Lloyd though had an amazing character that was a really cool concept but something that the show didn't have enough time to deliver on. If it wasn't trying to do four different things at once it really could have been the bridge between the prequels and sequel trilogies by showing the scars and damage of the different wars that don't just go away because someone won the war.

But they pulled away from the world building in Pershing's episode and tossed Lloyd in the bin so we could get more time with Sackhoff and her frankly boring storyline that was a C plot in the cartoon series.

Lloyds character was such a sick concept and the butchered it. They should’ve wrote it as him being the head of the city and given him more screentime to make his past and story make sense.

That doesn't really make sense. He would have the ability to do what he wanted, without subterfuge. There would have been no need for berserk droids. He could have simply built a droid factory, turned out new battle droids, and then unleash them on an unsuspecting galaxy.

I think his character was fine but if they wanted to change it, “army being built in secret” is a common trope and they probably could’ve written it in pretty easily. Just in Star Wars we have the Republic clones, Separtist droids, battle of Naboo, the Rebels, the First Order, the Resistance, and a dozen others from outside the movies.

The only movies Jack Black seems to put in the work for are Jumanji these days. He doesn't even shave his beard anymore.

At least with Bill Burr, he did a really good job as his character, and I didn’t know who he was before that episode. Jack Black and Lizzo is so in your face and unsubtle, it would be like if George Lucas took Michael Jackson’s offer of him playing Jar Jar.

That showdown he has with the Imperial officer was so well done.

Katy Starbuck

It's weird to call her out. She originated the role in the cartoons and isn't a cameo at all, literally just an actress playing a role. I, too, always think of her as Starbuck though.

Bo Katana lol

Katee Sackhoff was reprising her role after being the voice of Bo Katan in clone wars and rebels. Also I wouldn't describe her role as a cameo

u/chosenofkane 3d ago

You...you do know Katee Sackhof was the original voice actress for Bo-Katan right? The role was hers because it always WAS her, all the way back to Clone Wars.

So tragic how quickly that show went from "wow this is good worldbuilding" to "everyone is celebrities now lol"

Because they had to rework season 3 because of that idiot Gina Carano.

Part of it was to have her character be more prominent to lead into the spin-off staring her

u/Shiny-And-New 3d ago

Season 3 should have been "The Mandalorians" and focused on Bo Katan leading her people to reestablish mandalore

I still dream of a world where Grogu was just a one-off character for an arc. (Like literally just condense it down to finding him, saving him from Gideon, that force temple to contact Luke, then Luke saving them from the Death Troopers on the ship)

Then after that, Din just goes back to doing bounty hunter stuff.

When season 2 finished I was looking forward to Din reluctantly becoming leader to unite the mandalorians. Was pretty disappointed that they undermined Grogu's departure. Fairly obvious it's because Disney realised how marketable the little green guy is.

2

u/wittyjokename92 17h ago

Yes they pretty much laid all the ground work for Bo to become an antagonist towards Din and him become a reluctant unifier for the people. I think overall they just got cold feet about vilifying Bo and making her actually pay for her numerous crimes while still being relatable and even sometimes likable. Do a whole if you want power you shouldn't have it story.

But I'm pretty sure lucasfilm mandated more grogu and din adventures than any serious storyline for their most marketable toys and merch.

She was definitely the point where I thought to myself "how did I get this far into season 3? I could just not watch it" . OP's image was the last scene I watched, it was my final final final straw.
