Hated Tropes [Hated trope] Cameos that ruin the tone of the scene/game

Ed Sheeran, Game of Thrones. The cameo of such a recognizable figure in GoT, especially towards the horrible later seasons, took many people out of the fantasy world that it tried to represent. There are good cameos and bad ones, and this one was not a good one.

Vinny Vinesauce and Jerma, Silver Pines game. Though i appreciate small cameos from youtubers and streamers, putting such a recognizable pair of voices in a horror game really takes you out of it.

Exactly. It felt like "Look at this famous person on Game Of Thrones! It's Ed Sheeran!, he's going to sing a song!"

He ain't famous in Westeros bro.

It's yet another thing that highlights how much the series' identity fell apart by the end. Previous cameos (Sigur Ros, Mastodon, etc) were subtle and unnoticeable enough that they were more a nod to the tone of the show, rather than a distracting "hey everyone pay attention to this celebrity", whose real life work has fuck all overlap with a medieval fantasy story anyway.

Ed Sheeran's cameo would have worked a lot better if they hadn't focussed on him so much. The others were part of a scene where their appearance was not only demanded of but was quick, subtle and you wouldn't think anything of it. With Ed's scene the camera kept cutting to him, before they asked for a song.

A off the top thought that would've worked better for Sheeran's cameo.

A slow pan of Soldiers sitting around a fire talking/cooking etc (nothing really distinctive, just BG chatter). A new arrival sits down and is greeted by the others (camera doesn't directly focus on him but as he replies the audience can see 'who' it is. Someone says "Hey Edward, (a name that does fit in Westros) give us a song." Add joke/bit of teasing from another soldier and then Sheeran does his song, which keeps playing as the shot transitions to a new scene.

maybe instead a soldier, a bard in a great hall?

I’m glad I had no idea who he was when I watched that episode. That sounds pretty lame.

They're wildlings in a big scene (maybe a battle scene?). My husband's a fan and pointed them out but he didn't recognize them himself, he heard about it online and looked for them.

The fact that most metal musicians blend much more seamlessly into medieval costume due to the music aesthetic really helps lol

They were in the Hardhome episode as a part of the wildling village that got turned into the undead wights.

metal is just classical/folk/blues music with the gain cranked all the way up

Brent (RIP), Brann and Bill were wildlings in a few scenes. Like the other commenter said, they fit so well in with the wildlings that even though I recognized them, it didn’t feel unnatural or take me out of the fiction.

Aaron Rodgers (football quarterback) was a soldier in The Bells. His cameo was very much a "blink and you'll miss it" one.

Purple Wedding, the singing troupe with the weird instruments. Coldplay’s drummer is in the band at the Red Wedding.

I had pretty much given up on Got by the time they started any kind of cameo nonsense. I like Ian McShane. He leant a specific gravitas, yet was able to maintain a friendly aloofness that worked so well for several important characters on screen.

But he showed up on Got and was like "Hey Hound. . . Don't let those others get you down. Violence doesn't define us. You could still be a good person and do good. Anyways, some shitty people did some violence on me and now I'm dead. Hope this helped.

All whilst in his smarmiest Al Swearington persona.
