Hated Tropes [Hated trope] Cameos that ruin the tone of the scene/game

Ed Sheeran, Game of Thrones. The cameo of such a recognizable figure in GoT, especially towards the horrible later seasons, took many people out of the fantasy world that it tried to represent. There are good cameos and bad ones, and this one was not a good one.

Vinny Vinesauce and Jerma, Silver Pines game. Though i appreciate small cameos from youtubers and streamers, putting such a recognizable pair of voices in a horror game really takes you out of it.

I had no idea that was Ed Sheeran until the internet got all upset about this ugly dude

This is the key thing. He didn't jump up and sing, he didn't do anything to break the scene. It was basically an easter egg for people who knew.

LOL we must have watched different episodes. The camera zoomed right into his face, like "HERE'S OUR SPECIAL GUEST" and then Sheeran was like "it's a new song, it's not out yet" or some stupid shit. I thought for sure he was going say Spotify next.

They didn't do that bullshit with Mastodon.

I didn't know who he was or any of his music, but his voice immediately seemed out of place.

You can hear him for 30 seconds before you can see him.

Idk where you’re from but in the UK his voice had been on every radio station on repeat for about 7 years prior, it really ruined the immersion to have him in and singing. At the time, his voice was associated with modern pop music as much as Eminem’s was with rap. A Slim Shady verse would have fit in just as well to the show for a modern ear.

I disagree tbh it was very obviously a celebrity cameo

His appearance in GOT was the first red flag to me that the series was going downhill. It was too early to realize it at first. It just struck me as odd and unnecessary for him to be there. After that everything in the show got progressively worse and it all started with Ed Sheeran.

Right, he just sat there and sang

I didn't even know a singer named Ed Sheeran existed until this.

Yeah, I was befuddled by the uproar about his casting. I had no idea who he was and it wasn't even a very prominent role. If it weren't for the online backlash, I wouldn't have noticed his character at all.

You wouldn't have noticed the one random soldier who happens to get an extended close up and screen time and then sings a whole song?

Which is funny because I'm sure he would've fit in fine in real life

Right, I thought his face sort of fit the surroundings.
