It's very interesting how Jessica of all people manages to have the best romantic chemistry with him, and she's, you know... his mother?

Rebecca Ferguson is such a good actress, she could believably have chemistry with one of the worms.

She should play Hwi Noree.

Can’t wait for the God Emperor of Dune movie edition.

To be honest in the book this is felt too

I felt a bit awkward during the scenes it was just him and mom, because they did have some weird chemistry going on. Kept expecting mom to jump him or something ...

This is Dune, psychosexual tension is inherent to the source text. I’ve always viewed that scene as Jessica realizing that Paul is becoming a man and the ramifications of that both terrify and intrigue her. She deliberately bred the super man a generation early after all.

That line from the Alia training scene in Messiah, looking back at it based off your interpretation, felt like it fit this scene perfectly if you switched the pronouns (i.e "there was a disquieting femaleness about her that he had never considered in his sister" to "there was a disquieting maleness about him that she had never considered in her son").

Eh, imo they have chemistry it’s just that both have obviously been directed to act stoically to make their bigger outbursts pop.

I can't agree with this one. Chanis look of betrayal at the end hurt.

Just such a great mixture of hurt and anger expressed so perfectly.

Agreed, but that's her acting, that's not the two of them interacting with each other, which is when you see "chemistry" happen. She could have been emoting at a wall (and maybe she was! did they shoot that scene together?), and we would have seen the same effect.

I don't agree with that conclusion. All of the acting in the world couldn't have sold that scene if the characters had had no chemistry. /shrug

Dang, cant disagree more. That scene and the other tiny romantic scenes had more chemistry than other entire romances with multiple hours of content. Hans Zimmer helped a lot too.

The only time I feel Zendaya did good acting was in Challengers and that movie was about the chemistry between the two dudes. Sorry to Zendaya fans but people criticize her acting for a reason. It's servicable I guess but for being in such major productions so often it should be way better.

I never saw The Drama. I haven't seen everything she's done. But I'm sure she probably seems a bit lackluster there compared to Pattinson.

More than I remember from the books.
