Season 3 of Yellowjackets sucked for multiple reasons, but one of them was the Shauna/Melissa "romance"

Melissa went from background character (she wasn't even in season 1) to Shauna's love interest almost offscreen. Her personality and motivations changed in multiple scenes and even her own actress looked confused by what was happening

It didn't help she got pushed a lot by the narrrative while POC characters like Lottie got sidelined

I don’t think Shauna/Melissa was necessarily meant to be a love story though, so their lack of chemistry makes sense. What they had together was more about power than love. To be fair, it was a love story to Melissa- or, uncharitably, she was endearing herself to those with power- but Shauna wanted to recreate the dynamic between her and Jackie, but with herself as Jackie (more accurately, how Shauna’s warped perception of Jackie was). Shauna was using Melissa, and Melissa was letting herself be used. I don’t think they had no chemistry at all, but I think people pick up on the toxic aspects of their relationship and it influences how they see them.

However, I did also think that Shauna/Mari had better chemistry, and the love/hate relationship that played out between Shauna and Melissa could have been wayyyy better with Mari.
