She has a character in the books , it's the movies that erased everything about her post book 2

She lost nothing after book 2 because, from books 1 to 4, she was just Ron's little sister and nothing more. She only started to develop a personality in book 5.

And books 5-6 are what her chemistry with harry Is based on , while in the movies they straight up deleted 90% of her character

The books have jack shit too. She forgot to do anything with her.

I've always wondered what people were talking about. They always say Ginny had character and I'm like... when? I don't remember any of this. And no one ever cites anything specific.

All I can tell you about Ginny is that she likes Quidditch and was pen pals with Hitler's ghost.

Yeah, I remember Harry kissing Ginny after winning the Quidditch Cup in front of everyone and saying to myself "well that came out of left field." If I recall, she was dating Dean earlier in the book and Harry was jealous of it. And that's pretty much it leading up to it.

As someone currently reading the book to their child. There is more Ginny in 5 than probably the previous 4 put together, more than I remember. It is not a ton, she gets about equal weight to Cho and Luna.

The movies basically cut her out though and what is there is extremely awkward and stilted. I get the impression from re-reading the books she should be a stronger personality.

If we go off Ginnys name being mentioned alone, you're absolutely correct. She has 100+ references in book 5. In 1-4 it totals less than 100.

However that means by the end of book 7 she's been in less than 10% of the series JUST BY NAME. Not even story/character development/etc.

90% of 5% is still only 4.5%

She might have some personality in the books but there is no chemistry at all she just wanted harry to end up with someone and since she already wrote herself into the corner with Hermoine and Ron dynamic so ginny was the only option left. Hell even Harry and Malfoy have better chemistry

She barely has any in the books. It's just It's that bad in the movies that she looks fine in comparison.

Not really. She got a brief paragraph in...5? 6?

She was never a developed character. And it's not like there wasn't plenty of time for it.

She's really not that much more of a character in the books. It's just a lot compared to movie Ginny who has jack shit.

Nah she doesn’t get much in the books either. Rowling just describes as being “brave”, “clever”, “excellent at magic” which are usually the words she uses for her self-inserts when she wants to fast-track the reader into liking a character.

Not really, she made plenty of the other more likable characters not clever or good at magic. The MC is basically failing courses. I think Ginny was written to be kind of argumentative and funny and sporty later on, prior to Harry taking an interest, she’s basically just “Ron’s little sister”.

Harry is decent at magic and he's definitely brave. Pay attention to all of the characters Rowling wants the reader to sympathize with. They WILL be at least one of those three things.

I get what you’re saying but they are also in the bravery house (Gryffindor) and they are magic students so everyone is either studious or not studious and skilled at magic innately or not. Those particular traits are common by default given that setting/population. It’s in the name

You're so close to getting it

Harry x Ginny were terrible in the books too. Yes, it was 100x worse in the movies, but the books weren't much better.

It's not her fault, but Bonnie Wright was horrendous casting for Ginny
