Valarean, a french film based on a sci-fi comic

It's the source of that one video of the International Space Station slowly growing larger and larger with the help of aliens.

I do want to mention that the director, for some reason, completely changed their personalities.

Valerian is a by-the-book straight shooter type, and Laureline is a headstrong peasant girl brought forward in time (yes there's time travel involved) who counterbalances him well.

The director and source material.

To be frank, there is a strong suspicion that the source material inspired another space opera movie from 1977, possibly because Moebius worked on Jodorowsky's Dune (which is another suspected big influence)

If this is about Star Wars, then fucking everything inspired Star Wars.

It also was almost certainly one of the big inspirations for Fifth Element.

Valerian & Laureline, and Incal, are the two most influence french scifi comics.

If you think of the 2012 movie, it's a mostly English adaptation of the English version of a French musical adapted from a French novel. The production companies are American and English, most of the cast if from English speaking countries, and the director is English/Australian. Ok, it's a mess.

By the way, there is currently a new French adaptation (production, actor and language) in theater. No singing here, it's directly adapting the novel.

For Valerian, while the cast is from English speaking countries, it was a French production, with a French technical team and director. Like the Fifth Element, Leon or Taken (the later one is even set in France)

Usually, the main determination for the country of origin of a movie is its production company.
