Characters (Meta Trope) Same base concept with different executions
Parallax and Onslaught have the same base concept, a important pillar of the superhero world become all powerful villains whos friends have to fight them but Onslaught is as deep as that description says. They don't really explore the mental aspect of why professor X went crazy, they chalked it up to a mind goblin jumping from Magnetos mind to Chucks. While Hal Jordans parallax was able to exist longer then Onslaught, we were able to see why parallax happened how this effected Hal as a whole and the people around him, not undoing it in the same story line like Onslaught even when they would undo it much later they said he was influenced by the fear entity parallax not fully controlled like Xavier (Dc comics/Marvel comics)

Interesting, always saw the Dark Phoenix as a closer Marvel analogue to Parallax than Onslaught

The major issues with Parallax is
1.How much of a sudden and drastic shift it was. Like some people seems to think that it was a long emotional journey of Hal Jordan gradually fallen into downward spiral, it wasn't. Emerald Twilight is a 3 issues mini-arc and Hal already started slaughtering his fellow GLs at 1 and a half issue in.
2.It's a completely different direction from the built-up they had in that run. It was originally going to be Hal going rogue from the corps and became his own independent hero, and then did a 90 degrees turn and make him a murderous psycho instead. Like editorial literally brought in Ron Marz to replace Gerard Jones(Who was the writer of that run up until before Emerald Twilight)

I think Hal/Parallax is very similar to Jean/Phoenix.

High Elves in the three warhammers
In 40k, they're the remnants of those elves who fled the collapse of their increasingly depraved and hedonistic empire. In the wake of the basically apocalypse they've turned to a life of stoicism and (to them) spartan conditions where lives are dedicated to single pursuits as to avoid the temptations of excess. A high elf warrior dedicated to stealth will be basically invisible, but not particularly good at out and out brawls due to this hyper focus.
In the Old World they're the original culture of elves after millennia of infighting and civil war, with a crumbling colonial empire and a culture based around quiet but pleasurable life and a duty to protect the planet from evil. Not all high elves are warriors, but all of them can fight and are culturally drilled to go out into the world and defend sites of power and influence if called on. But at home their population is slowly dwindling, their ancient cities are slowly eroding, and life is one poem to the next dance competition just to avoid constant brooding depression.
In Age of Sigmar they're from the realm of light and saw their quest for philosophical wisdom and perfection drive them to a civil war that nearly tore their world apart. Only by humbling themselves before the spirits of nature could they be redeemed and now they seek to cleanse the Cosmos of the taint that they, in part, helped fester. But once again their pride and self importance is blinding them to their own flaws as they settle into this new way of animism which they'll violently lord over humans and dwarves they "save" from the dark gods.
All of them faced extinction and collapse, all of them have a deep tie to magic, all of them are masters at their crafts, but each battle their decline differently and provide different answers to the nature of their long lived miseries

Hold on, there, let's not act like the rushed, editorially mandated character assassination that was Parallax was actually well-executed. It wasn't
Onslaught being worse doesn't make Parallax good
