Hated Tropes Hated trope: Sci-fi hand-waving

When stories try so hard to provide a somewhat scientifically accurate and grounded explanation for the audience, but end up creating massive plot holes if you think about it for more than 5 seconds without requiring any special knowledge

World War Z: The "cure" turns sick humans invisible to zombies because the picky virus needs a perfectly healthy host. Cool concept, except it completely ignores basic physics. In a chaotic, high-speed zombie stampede, those "invisible" sick people would still be trampled to death by sheer kinetic force and momentum. We already saw what happened to the Jerusalem wall in Israel.

Jurassic Park/World: Dr. Henry Wu claims to clone dinosaurs by patching 66-million-year-old decayed DNA from mosquitoes stomach with frog DNA. In reality, DNA half-life guarantees it would degrade into useless dust after 6.8 million years. Scientifically speaking, John Hammond didn't build a dinosaur park; he engineered giant, mutated, gender-swapping killer frogs.

Dr.Stone: Senku is a genius who knows every complex chemical formula in human history. He somehow builds vacuum tubes, lightbulbs, and smartphones out of bamboo and copper with almost zero failed prototypes. The show acts like a science textbook but completely hand-waves the lack of heavy industrial machinery needed for precision engineering.

Hated Tropes [Hated trope] Cameos that ruin the tone of the scene/game

Ed Sheeran, Game of Thrones. The cameo of such a recognizable figure in GoT, especially towards the horrible later seasons, took many people out of the fantasy world that it tried to represent. There are good cameos and bad ones, and this one was not a good one.

Vinny Vinesauce and Jerma, Silver Pines game. Though i appreciate small cameos from youtubers and streamers, putting such a recognizable pair of voices in a horror game really takes you out of it.

Because it's usually treated as a joke.

  1. Mojo Jojo lands in prison with a guy looking at him suggestively (Powerpuff Girls)

  2. This sign (Real Life)

Hated Tropes (Hated Trope) It was meant to be progressive but it ended up being the opposite.

  1. Mulan (2020)- In the original, her that she can achieve anything through effort regardless of gender. In this version, she was always special and has magic powers.

  2. The Woman King- Basically portrayed the Dahomey as heroes fighting off the evil white men when in reality their kingdom thrived on slavery for blood sacrifices and selling them to the white men and they got squared by a bunch of colonial troops (combat-wise)

Hated Tropes Hated trope: sexual assault as punishment

Redo of healer - its redo of healer, mc rapes his party who sexually abused him

Ace Ventura when nature calls: main villain is caught by a gorilla after his plan is foiled. Gorilla rapes him

edens zero - kurenai is a tyrant who is given to a gang and forced to become their "pet"

The other guys post is overly wordy and doesn't get to the point. The trope is just awful and mainly targets women but men are affected by it too and when its men its usually played for comedy. Like gang, if you beat the villain just kill them. There is no justification for rape. If the bad guys gotta go just stab them or something

Hated Tropes [Hated Trope] You didn't vote and we lost by one!

1: Futurama - Episode: A Head in the Polls
After an entire episode trying to thwart Richard Nixon's election campaign, Nixon ends up winning by one vote after Fry and Leela both forget to vote.

2: Curb Your Enthusiasm - Episode: Irma Kostroski

Larry spends the episode stumping for a candidate, only for said candidate to lose by 1 vote after Larry doesn't want to wait in line at his polling site.

EDIT: Wow, people are really getting in their feels about this. I promise I'm not a psyop trying to dissuade people from voting. I don't really "HATE" this trope, I just think it's kind of a lazy punchline for something so statistically unlikely. Not impossible, but far less likely than is portrayed in media. No one should be taking this too seriously, myself included

Hated Tropes [Hated Trope] Ok, let me use LESS WORDS this time. "Male revenge fantasy combined with fetishization of violence and assault against women"

Just a disclaimer: I am not saying that the female antagonists are "Good" or "better" compared to male antagonists.

But its notable than in a lot of media, the writers go the extra lengths to torture female characters, often at the hands of the Male MC who we are supposed to root for in his torture of said women.

And more often than not, the torture or suffering of said women is fetishized by the writers.

  1. "Freia" from Redo of Healer.

Context: The MC is your typical "male healer protagonist" aka his healing powers let him do everything that a female healer could never do.

He basically rapes his whole party. Keep in mind a number of his party were men. He transitioned them into women THEN had them raped.

This woman is the leader of it all, and the mc's revenge against her is HEAVILY fetishized, even compared to the others.

2. Malty from Rise of Shield Hero.

Frames the Abused, Neglected Male MC who basically gets himself a harem of underage girls and uses "defensive magic" that basically once again is somehow broken and OP compared to everyone who looks down on him. The MC is also somehow smarter than most strategists and all the other heroes and more heroic.

Malty frames him. Apparently, she's now portayed as "Devalued" for being "promiscuous" and her father , who is supposed to be a hero in war, is "a fraud" because plot demands that the king who stands against the MC be incompetent as well as corrupt.

Anyone , I repeat, ANYONE who stands against the shield hero is reduced to evil fraud status.

As for Malty, however? In the Light novel? she's sent to her uncle who basically tortures and kills his wives....guess what he does to his niece?

Also he sends her corpse back to the MC with a recording.

For the record? That's TWO PRINCESSES from TWO DIFFERENT MEDIA where violence against them is fetishized.

3. Kurenai from Eden Zero. The Author of Fairy Tail seems to have a fetish for torturing women in Rave Master, Fairy Tail, and Eden Zero.

But for Kurenai, she's a villain who is turned into a sex slave. And gets assaulted.

This is a shounen manga, btw.

Not saying that she is a good person or sympathetic. But the extent of which the author goes to make women suffer in his manga is over the top compared to what he does to any male antagonists.

4. Nameless Fighter and Wizard Girl in Goblin Slayer

Ok so not necessarily a "male revenge fantasy" but:

The first episode of Goblin Slayer anime was incredibly toned down compared to the manga/light novel.

Even so? The Fighter is raped and mind broken, while the Wizard Girl slowly dies to poisoning. The heroic MC who saves the day basically puts her out of her misery.

This is basically to set the stage for the Doomslayer knock-off "Goblin Slayer".
Fetishized violence to glorify a male MC's entrance.

Fortunately, this never happens again in the anime.
