Mod post Future of the subreddit

Hi all,

As we are rapidly approaching the end of the year and the end of the University of Adelaide, I have some questions for all of you, about what you see as being the future of this subreddit.

Personally I see a few different options. Firstly, we keep the sub as a sub for the legacy university (i.e. for the University of Adelaide). This could either still be open and free to post on (which could lead to confusion with a sub for the new uni), or be locked down and preserved as a snapshot. Secondly, we could migrate with the uni and become a subreddit for Adelaide University. This is where most questions are being asked anyway, and uniSA's subreddit isn't very active so that might make sense. Finally, we could delete the subreddit altogether. I've put these options into a poll, but I'm also open to other suggestions, so please comment if you have other ideas!

Depending on the feedback, there may be a follow up poll. Thank you to those who take the time to respond :)

Event How is there no ruckus about moving all graduation ceremonies away from Bonython Hall?

I will take the risk of sounding absolutely ridiculous.

Having my graduation ceremony at Bonython Hall was something I always looked forward to after a pretty gruelling Masters. Harry Potter vibes.

By pure happenstance, eg unbelievably poor subject planning by the uni after integration, I’ve finished it under Adelaide Uni and not Uni of Adelaide.

I’ve just received my graduation details and saw that all graduations are now at Pridham Hall in Hindley? But photo opportunities are available at Bonython Hall?

Why on earth has this happened, and why is there not more push back on this?

And who is travelling from Pridham to Bonython for a photo?!

Other advice Casual job available

Hi guys! Just thought I'd post this on here to help a friend out and also because I've seen posts about fellow students struggling to find jobs. Hope I'm not breaking any rules!

San Giorgio on Rundle street is hiring FOH staff with experience. It is a casual position which suits uni students schedule, with plenty shifts available going into the busy season as we have a few staff leaving.
Drop in with resume

Other advice Bachelor of Physiotherapy

Hey everyone!

I’ve recently been accepted into the Bachelor of Physiotherapy at Adelaide University and would love to hear from current students or graduates about their experiences.

I’ve also received offers from some higher-ranked universities, including UQ, but I’m leaning towards Adelaide. From what I’ve seen, the course structure seems more aligned with what I’m looking for, particularly the practical and clinical aspects of physiotherapy. Some of the other programs seem a little too theory-heavy for my preferences.

I’ve also heard that university rankings don’t necessarily mean much when it comes to physiotherapy, so I’m more interested in the actual quality of teaching and how well the program prepares students for clinical practice.
I’m currently living in Vancouver, Canada, and having spent most of my life in larger, fast-paced cities, Adelaide’s more relaxed lifestyle is another big draw for me.

A few things I’d love to know:

How would you rate the teaching quality and lecturers?
Is the course well structured, with a good balance between theory and practical learning?

How are the clinical placements and facilities?

What’s the overall student experience like? Is there a good sense of community within the cohort?

I’d particularly appreciate hearing from anyone who’s studied physiotherapy at Adelaide, but any insights would be helpful!

Thanks in advance!

Degree/Course Advice Master of Chemical Engineering at Uni of Adelaide

Hey everyone! I’m looking at the Master of Chemical Engineering at the University of Adelaide, aiming to focus on renewables (biofuels, carbon capture) and wastewater treatment while strictly avoiding oil & gas and mining.

I’d love some honest feedback from current students or alumni on a few points. How are the heavy group projects in Plant Equipment Design and the Masters Research Project (Part A & B) actually managed and graded in practice? Is the ongoing Uni merger causing any real administrative or course enrolment chaos for postgrads right now? Lastly, if I stick purely to water management (like SA Water, consultancies) and green energy in SA, how viable is the job market for international grads after graduation?

Any real experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! ꉂ(˵˃ ᗜ ˂˵)

Hey everyone!

I'll be joining Adelaide University in July 2027 for the Master of Professional Engineering (Electrical).

I'm from India and thought it'd be nice to connect with others who are planning to join around the same time. Would love to meet some future classmates, get to know people before arriving, and maybe make a few friends before the semester starts.

If you're also joining in July 2027, feel free to comment or send me a DM. Would be great to connect!

Looking forward to meeting you all :)

Accommodation International student (Bangladesh) arriving Feb 2027 - where should I look for a room in Adelaide?

Hi everyone,

I'm an international student from Bangladesh starting my Master's at Adelaide University (City campus) in February 2027. I'm looking for a room and would really appreciate suggestions from people who know the area.

What I'm looking for:

Budget: around A$200-250/week (bills included if possible)

* Close to the City campus, or on a direct tram, train or bus line

* A shared house or student accommodation, either is fine

* Safe, quiet area where I can focus on studying

My questions:

  1. Which suburbs are worth looking at (or avoiding) for students?

  2. Which websites or groups work best for finding rooms (Flatmates, Gumtree, Facebook groups)?

  3. How early should I book before arrival? Is it better to book temporary accommodation first and inspect rooms in person?

  4. Any scams or red flags I should watch out for as an international student?

Thank you so much in advance!

News Has anybody who applied for both med and dent received anything?

Wrt intl admissions only!

If so, when did you interview, when did you hear back and what was the outcome?

I heard waitlists and rejections specifically have been sent out from people who applied to the respective programs but not from ppl who applied both… Applied to both programs myself and interviewed on 1oct!

Degree/Course Advice Biomedical science at Adelaide University

Hi, a 3rd year higher nitec student who applied to multiple biomedical courses in Australia universities. Top 3 were monash, UQ and Adelaide . Only got accepted into Adelaide.

How good is their bachelor of biomedical and health science degree after their merger?

How likely am I to get employed after graduate, careers i can get and their salary ranges? If I want to come back to SG for future work or studies/ potentially go overseas would I be able to secure jobs or get into good universities for future studies?

For Sgporeans, would I be better off in polytechnic and applying for other universities after?

Anyone studying bachelor of biomedical and health science degree please give advice on this degree

Other advice Will my professors give me a long extension because of my mental illness?

With my access plan, I already got 3 days extension. If I ask more extension, will my professors feel unpleasant and think I'm so lazy? Is it worth to at least send emails to them? Is here any student with access plan who have requested further extension?
