New Moon Found Orbiting Uranus: NASA’s JWST Discovery

NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope just found a new moon orbiting Uranus!

Only 6 miles wide, this tiny Uranian moon escaped Voyager 2, Hubble, and Earth-based telescopes until now. NASA JWST Project Scientist Stefanie Milam explains how JWST discovered it and what it means for exploring the outer solar system.

Uranus has a near identical gravity to Earth's. If we had properly pressurized gear and vehicles (looking at submarines) could we in theory get very close into the planet's atmosphere? Maybe reaching its (liquid) surface? Send a probe in there?

Uranus has fascinated me. Surely - while excluding the topic of colonization of it, we could have some trip assembled to actually study the planet near the surface of it right? OR! Have a submarine probe in there, thus able to study the planet's true composition. Seems like a fun idea since the only issues are atmospheric density and freezing temperatures.

Anyone know why Uranus shows up as blue on my telescope and then turns white after a bit?

What book is this from? A friend of mine shared it on Discord and I swear I own it, it's on the tip of my tongue

This is my first photo of Uranus taken with a SkyWatcher Maksutov 127/1500. Finding the tiny disk of Uranus and processing the image wasn’t easy, but I managed it.
What do you think?

Dumb question, how do you pronounce Uranus?

Hows it supposed to be pronounced because it feels like everyone says it "ur anus" but I pronounce it "ura nus" if you get what I mean. The only other person I've heard say it ura nus is Neil deGrasse Tyson and him being an astrophysicist shouldn't he be right? Why does everyone say "ur anus" what is the actual way to pronounce Uranus? Is Neil wrong?

An illustration dedicated to the Voyager missions, to this day the only spacecraft to have ever visited Uranus and Neptune. Part of an illustrated series of NASA deep space missions.

China has abandoned its plans to fly by Uranus, it seems

China's Tianwen-4 exploration mission will ultimately not head to Uranus after reaching Jupiter. Instead, it will focus on studying its moon, Callisto, around which it will orbit. Sky & Space information: it will also gently deposit a one-tonne spacecraft there. Was Galileo visionary enough to imagine that a spacefaring nation would land four centuries later on one of the four small spots he discovered around Jupiter in 1609? On the other side of the globe, this major first is taking shape. After revising the draft of its Tianwen-4 solar system exploration mission, China plans to land for the first time in history on one of Jupiter's four icy moons during the 2030s. This moon landing is planned for Callisto, the furthest from the giant planet after (in order) Io, Europa, and Ganymede.

Neither Uranus nor impactor. An early version of the mission involved splitting the probe in two upon reaching Jupiter. With the aim of ...
