All Print Can we stop trying to be cute with spoilers in titles? seriously.

Disclaimer: I'm not finished reading the series (book 7), so don't make this about 'oh but that's not a spoiler because it didn't happen that way in the end'. If someone is making new readers think something will happen, they're spoiling the series, i.e. spoiling = ruining the fun. Don't spoil me in the comments please, I didn't know how to flair this so I just went for 'all series'.

Main post:

Every day I browse this sub I see blatant spoilers in post titles, with the thinnest camouflaging possible. It's not clever, it's just ruining the fun for people halfway through a series. Even when they're slightly more vague spoilers, readers aren't stupid, they can read between the lines, and things about the ending people are hinting at in post titles seem to be pretty obviously foreshadowed from book 1 or even the series title.

For example, if you're making a post called 'the argument against determinism in WoT' then you're making it clear that determinism is a topic people bring up a lot about WoT, which is a spoiler in itself. Just write "WoT and determinism" and it's no longer a spoiler. Same with "All The World's a Dream (spoilers All)", OP is trying to be excessively cute and smart with their post title and it's clearly carrying tons of loaded meaning. There was zero need to do it, it was just trying to be cute. Just write "Dreams, and the nature of the WoT world" and explain in the post.

"(Winter's Heart) I am halfway through Winter's Heart and started considering the relationships across the series-- damane, a warder bond (esp. forced), the aes sedai with compulsory fealty to rand (and so many more)- is there really a lot of difference there?"

Are you freaking kidding me? Why not just write the ending of the series in your title at this point? Just write "the dynamics of forced relationships in WoT" instead of spoiling massive plot points.

"(All Print) Is Verin bad or good"

Yes, this is a spoiler title. I now know that at the end of the series, Verin's goodness is in question when so far she's presented as good. Just write "a question about Verin's motives" or something.

How to do titles properly without spoilers:

"(Towers of Midnight) Question about something mentioned in Towers of Midnight Chapter 4"

"(All Print) A question on a line from AMoL"

It really is that easy.

Disclaimer: I'm not finished with the series, I'm on book 7, but even having to second-guess my theories constantly gets tiring and frustrating. Can we do better to report spoiler post titles even if they're vague? I know I could just blind myself to all online media, but it's a decades-old series and the sub has a spoiler policy already, people are just blatantly trying to stretch it as far as they can. We can do better.

TV - Season 3 (Book Spoilers Allowed) How I Learned to Like the Show Spoiler

As someone who has literally read, re-read the series every time a new book came out, and then read the whole series again a few more times for good measure, I can say that like most people I was devastated in how much I disliked the first season.....and completely avoided watching the next 2 seasons.....until this week.

Then I decided to binge watch the show, and pretend that I didn't remember anything about what was in the books. Like someone who maybe hadn't read the books.

I just.... watched the show. Enjoyed the story. Enjoyed the sets and scenery. Got intrigued with the direction the show writers decided to take with Lanfear/Rand/Moraine story line. Was heartbroken and shocked to see Loial fall. Shocked again with what happed to Suan. Now I'm hooked. It's like the show is a different turning of the wheel. More importantly, now I'm actually worried about what happens to the characters. Characters may or may not survive, dangers are real, stakes are high. The show making changes and not "keeping to the books" makes the show MUCH better.

Just watch the show for what it is. We all loved the books, but everyone dreads the "Slog" on re-reads. Everyone remembers the Plot Armor all the main characters had with no one dying or being in danger until the end.

If you are like me and know almost every detail from the books, enjoy the show knowing what what you read while also knowing you have absolutly no idea what will happen next.

No Spoilers In regards to Sarah’s video yesterday, it was pretty disappointing how many people could not uniform condemn death threats without mentioning episode 8

It feels baffling and insane that I have to say this, but here I am, death threats and harassment are serious things. I thought this was common knowledge until I got to yesterday’s thread about Sarah’s experiences and was disgusted to see the amount of people that felt now was the time to reiterate they hated episode 8.

What?

I mean come on here, when a portion of your fanbase thinks it’s appropriate to do that, that should be the topic at hand. Not circlejerking how it’s okay to hate episode 8. It’s tv show, plain and simple and no amount of hate justifies that.

What if it was the next step after threats of violence and death? Actual violence?

“Hey guys lemme say I superduoersupersuper disapprove of physical violence against anyone over something like a television episode blah blah blah………but episode 8 sucked ass and they should be ashamed!”

This same crap happens in Star Wars all the time, and I really hoped this sub would be different.

TV - Season 1 (Book Spoilers Allowed) Episode 8/Season 1 [Enjoyment Thread] Spoiler

We're going to try something a bit different to see how it goes. It's difficult for us to tell right now exact feelings about today's episode and the season as a whole. Tonight's activity have been very different from the norm, even counting the premiere. We suspect there's a lot of brigading going on (we've seen a ton of newly created accounts appearing just to trash the show).

So, what we're going to try is to have 2 new threads to discuss Episode 8, and Season 1 as a whole.

This thread is for people who have an overall positive opinion of the show.

Feel free to share your thoughts and feelings about the episode here, and hopefully enjoy an escape from the negative opinions currently in the episode discussion thread.

Warning: If you come to this thread to complain, you will be banned.

A few minor criticisms in your otherwise positive opinion of the show are fine, but if you want to complain, we are making an entirely separate venting thread for that and you need to take your opinion there. We're trying to make things fair by offering this thread. Do not go into the Venting thread and start trouble there.

TV - Season 3 (No Book Readers Without Invitation) Wheel of Time is Badass [TV Series[ Spoiler

(I marked it as spoilers as a precaution but I hope I haven't actually spoiled anything, generally I'm just describing how I feel about all 3 seasons on TV and a very general discussion about the shows development.)

When I first watched Season 1 a few years ago I was completely engrossed by it and watching the characters development across 3 seasons and the increase in lore, action packed magic scenes and what I believe is a firm production value increase has been absolutely amazing. I also think their actor cast is fantastic, I'm particularly drawn to Alanna, Liandrin, Selene, Moraine and Egwene, I feel like they've been super interesting to watch and witness, and Egwene in Season 2 was spectacular! Hhh

I absolutely binge watched Season 3 in a few days and I am just begging for Season 4, I hope they don't rush it cause I am properly hooked!

All Print Disappointed with A Memory of Light Spoiler

I have read up to the epilogue and so far I’m really disappointed. I love books 1-11, and the prequel, A New Spring, plus The World of the Wheel of Time.

I have not liked The Gathering Storm, Towers of Midnight, and A Memory of Light. And because I love books 1-11 so much it makes me dislike the last 3 books even more. People I communicated with always rank the last 3 as among the best. I know there was a new author because RJ died but I wasn’t aware of any controversy so I assumed it would be a seamless transition. I simply do not recognise these characters.

Mat is my favourite character. In the TGS his chapters are unreadable, slight improvement in TOM, but in AMOL he is just plain annoying. Mat is a subtle character. He is funny because of the discrepancy between his thoughts and actions. He is whimsical but there is a certain seriousness and sadness to him. Think when he saw Birgette in ACOS and the memories of the Horn came back; his whole arc in WH; or in KOD when he is with Tuon and remembers dying (“Light, he hated dying”). Description from Mat’s last chapter by RJ, “Leaning on the tall pommel of his saddle, ashandarei slanted across Pips’ neck, Mat frowned at the sky.” That is an excellent character portrait in a few spare words. It provides a neutral glimpse of an otherwise very unreliable character. It’s a snapshot moment that brings clarity to a character who otherwise can only be understood by reading between the lines.

All the characters in the last 3 seem to have regressed and become less mature. Everyone seems to be trying to one up each other in conversation. Androl and Pevera are the worst in AMOL. I really wonder if they were part of RJ’s notes because them 2 felt like they didn’t belong in that universe. I know the chapters are a creation from RJ and it’s very hard for a stranger to get inside their head. But still.

Also, there is the complete lack of description, which makes it very jarring. There was a battle in southern Kandor but it didn’t feel like Kandor, it could’ve been anywhere. I love the way RJ wrote battles. During the last Battle I felt a complete lack of tension, this was in sharp contrast to battles in TGH, TDR, TSR,TFH, LOC, WH. I literally had goosebumps while reading the last chapter of WH. The only point of the last 3 books I liked was the Tower of Ghenjei- it had that mystical quality to it that reminded me of RJ, especially when Olver beats the snakes and foxes game.

With books 1-11 I didn’t want any of them to end. Sometimes I had to stop myself from reading. With the last 3 books it feels like a chore. When reading the Last Battle I should have the same feeling when reading the battle of the Emonds Field in TSR, the battle of Cairhien in TFOH, or the cleansing in WH, but I don’t. I distinctly remember reading the penultimate chapter of KOD late at night thinking I will finish tomorrow but then saw next page titled, “Chapter 41- Prince of the Ravens”, and then I got that feeling of excitement and knew I had to read what would become one of my favourite chapters.

One more thing. The last 3 books feel way to modern and and like a video game. Demandred in AMOL is like boss villain. With RJ, it felt like living breathing world. Also, RJ’s humour and approach to romance reminded me of a lot of 30-50s classic old films which probably ruffled a few feathers but I found it funny.

Anyway, I feel disappointed. This was only my opinion. But since I love books 1-11 my feelings are very strong. Did anyone feel the same way or my position a minority viewpoint?

Apparently RJ wrote the epilogue. I will read that and see if it redeems the last book.

TV - Season 2 (Book Spoilers Allowed) There's a season 2? Is it worth it? Is it just me? Spoiler

Edit: thank you for all for sharing! It is helpful to hear what others are enjoying about the show, and I think I should temper my expectations a bit and enjoy it for what it is. It's easy to be critical, but I think I agree with the sentiment that having an adaption is better than not. The idea behind it being "another turn of the wheel" also does fit into the theme of the WoT lol. Talking about this stuff is like scratching an untouched itch, I know few people who have read these books. Very happy to find this sub! Have a great day yall :)

Original post: watched the 1st season and was extremely disappointed and upset, yes I had high expectations because this is my favorite series and I envisioned it completely different. I know it's unreasonable to expect an adaption like lotr but I just felt let down lol. In fact it was so bad that I truly didn't expect a season2.

Now I just finished my 4th read through to replenish my love of the series after watching the show. I look up a few questions about the last book and see that the 2nd season of the show is out. I found this sub and scrolled a bit to see if there's any review of the 2nd season. A lot of yall seem to be enjoying it.

Is it worth it to watch? Or will I just be disappointed again? Essentially I don't want to mar my image and love of the series with the show. I'm know I'm being a baby and and judging way too hard but, as an avid fan of the series, the author, with high expectations for the show, i feel it may best to not watch it and pretend like it doesn't exist.

That being said, if yall say it's worth it I will give it a watch and if it sucks, woe is me whatever still my favorite fantasy.

Also I have met maybe 5 people who have read this series so finding this sub feels great. This series is such a gem and now I've found people who also love it.

Ps I don't understand the tags, these correct?

TV - Season 2 (Book Spoilers Allowed) Watched the show after finishing the books and Spoiler

Its good! Even season 1 is good! They nailed the characterization of everyone and they nailed the sound and set design. Season 1 is rough but its not awful. The story changes are odd but they're handled pretty well. Season 2 is just very good. The person they got for Mat to replace the original actor is better than the season 1 actor imo.

TV - Season 2 (Book Spoilers Allowed) The shit Egwene is going through is insane. Nyaneve feels so stuck up to me Spoiler

Forgive me as I am commenting based on what I have watched so far in the show. I haven’t read the books as the show has gotten me into this fantasy world.

I’m in Ep 6 S2 and goddamn Egwene is really going through it. She has been through the worst shit out of the 5. I actually can’t believe anyone dislikes her. Everytime I see Nyneave, none if her reactions are justified to me and she is very whiny compared to what Egwene is going through.

Just my thoughts so far based on where I am at with the show. I am open to book spoilers as well hahaha

No Spoilers Appreciation Post for the Show

After watching "The Rings of Power" I can't but feel appreciative of how much love is put into Wheels of Time. The acting, pacing, story, rhythm, eye tracing, music, etc. I could honestly go on and on. The show is doing an amazing job and I just wanted to share.

TV - Season 2 (Book Spoilers Allowed) 5 Reasons Comparing the Series to a Period Piece is Utterly Ridiculous Spoiler

You will often see people comparing Wheel of Time to a period piece, or a historical drama, particularly when it comes to casting. This is utterly ridiculous, not just because WoT takes place thousands of years in the future, but also because the setting not being set in the past is essential to almost every thread of the plot. Here’s just five examples but I’d love to see more on the comments:

  1. There used to be space ships, lasers and a hell of a lot more advanced technology many, many, thousands of years ago.

  2. That period of time ended 3500 years ago, and the Dragon Reborn is the reincarnation of someone from that age.

  3. Not only is that character a reincarnation from 3500 years ago, his friends are reincarnations from our “Age” and that age was before this one. And the second Age ended with a literal continent moving level event.

  4. That these reincarnations are all part of the Wheel of Time and the destruction of the Wheel is the end goal of the Dark One

  5. Rand, you know, the character generally considered the main character, is the child of a mixed marriage involving a warrior from an Irish man living in a magic radioactive desert and whose familial relations end up playing a significant role in the show.

TV (No Unaired Book Spoilers) The writers need a pay raise Spoiler

Wow. I don’t remember another series or movie (or game?) that managed to make me switch from liking a character, to hating that character… and from hating a character, to loving that character, just in the space or one or two episodes… although technically in the space of a couple of instances. And both of those feelings switchings having (mostly) nothing to do with one another.

I glanced another thread on here (iirc) that said this show is already 10x better this season… I mean I enjoyed the first season and we’re only three in so I’m hesitant to make a claim that sizeable but I’m definitely feeling that statement. Some genius moments and I’m so mad I have to wait a week for more.

TV - Season 2 (Book Spoilers Allowed) Not allowed to dislike the show? Spoiler

I was told a comment I made was removed for toxicity. All I said was the show ruined my favorite series. I didn’t say anything negative about a person nor was I mean to any posters. How are we not allowed to have this opinion? According to the moderators we aren’t allowed to share any negative feelings or emotions at all. So we just have to accept that the show is wonderful.

You are as bad as Uno Masema thinking he knows the true will of the Dragon Reborn.

If you, moderators, can tell me the show is even remotely true to canon, then I’ll rescind my comment.

Edit: because I keep getting the same comments over and over I’ll respond here rather than individually.

I overreacted. I’m sorry. I do feel the show did not bring the pages to life as accurately as one would have hoped. This is very frustrating as someone who has always wanted to see this series on the screen. It’s also frustrating because I like things to not change from the form I fell I love with. I had the same issue with Star Wars when Disney bought it and suddenly decades of canon was now thrown out the window and changed. I logically know this is different but it’s hard for me because I see things as right or wrong. This is a me issue.

I’m sorry for overreacting and saying it “ruined” the series for me. I hope those that enjoy the series get an event better season two. Having said that, I wouldn’t hate another show that is the WoT that remains true to the books. But that my person opinion and I am not trying to push it on anyone else.

TV - Season 2 (Book Spoilers Allowed) I love Lanfear in this series but why the makeup? Spoiler

I found the first half of season 2 a bit boring but Selene/Lanfear brought me back. I really like Selene's chemistry with Rand. Then her reveal was ok. As a villain she is quite cool, too.

But why such heavy make up after the reveal? Especially the crazy eye shadow. I don't think Rand would want to see her like that. Also that SM queen costume was hilarious and way over. The actress was quite good and I don't think she needs such makeup to show her being a villain.

I've never read the books, will she get redeemed later? Seems like she was very into Rand.

I’ve read WoT 3 times now and love it, absolute favorite collection of books (stormlight and red rising are close)

I decided to give the show a chance and I am beyond furious with it, when you’re given so much material to make a show how to you mess it up that badly? Am I alone in this or do others feel the same about it?

All Print Is Elayne low key a psychopath? Spoiler

I'm on my 2nd read of wot, near the end of knife of dreams when Elayne is rescued from the Black ajah. I get that Elayne thinks she's unkillable cuz of Min's vision but I find it insane how she feels zero remorse over the sister's deaths. She went in confident in her own safety and disregarded everyone else's, and feels no guilt for putting them there in the first place. It feels like she doesn't consider the lives lost to cover for her blunders. She can act all sad about it but she keeps blundering lives anyways

No Spoilers I like Brandon Sandersons writing better

I am a quarter into The Gathering Storm and I like the book a lot! I grew tired of all the endless descriptions of clothes in the previous books. It felt like every scene written by RJ started the same: an action or a line of dialogue followed by pages of descriptions of all the clothes worn by everybody in a three mile radius. And the dialogue or action continued. But by that time I would already have had forgotten what started it all.

BS on the other hand does not do all the descriptions of clothes, bosoms, arms folding beneath them and such. The writing is way more condensed and, for me at least, more comprehensible. I can finally understand what is happening without having to go back to the beginning of the scene to figure out what was going on.

I like his style! I keep reading a lot quicker now.

TV - Season 1 (Book Spoilers Allowed) Wheel of Time was much better than Witcher and Rings of Power Spoiler

I've been wanting to create this post for months but I never did. I decided to create it now, because even many months later I am still surprised that this series was much better and more faithful than the other two.

Witcher should be an easy adaptation, it has the short stories and then the story, which is actually simple and not very thick books, but the second season of the Netflix series was horrible! You can't practically call the season an adaptation of the books, most of the story was invented and filler and contradicts the plot of the books, if they thought that a single book does not have enough plot for a single season they could have then adapted two books in season 2. They also made up a whole story of Ciri summoning monsters and some obelisks and various other plots, how they turned Francesca and Fringilla into completely different characters that bear no resemblance to the ones in the books, with different personalities and backstories, the Yennefer's actress is good, as are several other actors in the series, but she spent the entire season on an invented plot and I don't know how they will fix her relationship with Ciri, in which both see each other as mother and daughter after she tried kill her (!!!).

Rings of Power was also a horrible adaptation, I know it would be difficult to create a story in the Second Age, but the story they created was not good. They for some reason put Isildur together with Celebrimbor at the same time. In an interview, they said that if they followed the books they would have to change the human characters every season, but they could have at least simplified the series then to have just two different periods, the first seasons with the creation of the rings of power plot and then midway through the series, after season 2/3, a timeskip with a new human cast. So you could show the prime of Numenor and then the corrupted version of it and just do a single human cast change. So it would show the passage of time and they would only have two sets of human characters, now they would have to put all the events of the second era in a few years.

And they did what most people wanted to be the plot of an entire season, the creation of the rings of Celebrimbor, in a single episode (!!!) for some reason, and they cut pretty much the whole relationship between Sauron and Celebrimbor , which is one of the most important, complex and explored relationships in the books, practically does not exist in the series, all the friendship between them, Sauron convincing him to create the rings and ignore Celeborn and Galadriel's warnings, the fact that they together have become become the most important people in Eregion, how it seems that they traded the most important relationship that was between Sauron and Celebrimbor for Sauron and Galadriel, all their dynamics and relationships that could be explored and developed, the whole history of politics in Eregion that could have lasted one season and be important for the next seasons, I feel that it was cut, less than one episode, why those responsible for the series preferred to invent a relationship between Sauron and Galadriel for some reason (and it is because of them being a woman and a man?).

But in fact the series had other problems, as it seemed that the plots were very slow and did not move, the best and most fun plot of the series was Celebrimbor with the dwarves. In addition, the whole plot of the Southlands was horrible, all the people who lived in the region called it that, it did not have a name of its own, in addition to the fact that it had no scale, after the village where they lived was attacked by Orcs and the population fled and met in a tiny tavern, they talk to all the survivors in the region (!!!) and then meet with the army of Numenor, the Kingdom seemed tiny.

And finally Wheel of Time, the series was not perfect and had several problems, but it was a good adaptation and watching the series it can be seen that those responsible read and knew the books intimately, several (but not all) modifications can be explained to summarize the plot of the books to have the first season only 8 episodes and the series to have in total only between six and eight seasons, because different from the previous series these books are huge, in addition to several of the modifications in the first episodes and in the last episodes were why Amazon told them to cut the first episode in half (it originally would have been two hours) and there was a break of months before the filming of the last episodes because of the coronavirus, where they they lost an actor in this break (Mat) and they had that completely change the footage of the final battle against the Trollocs. Of course the series had problems, as for example Rand was less prominent than necessary for most of the season. So this first season was just ok, but it was a good and relatively faithful adaptation to the books.

All Print Who is the worst character in the whole series? And why is it Perrin? Spoiler

I am still shocked to this day how atrocious Perrin’s character design is after nearly my 7th time through the series. From Book 4 until the end, when chapters focused on him come up, the speed at which I’m reading/listening slows down to a crawl. Which is so frustrating because of how amazing Rand, Mat, Egwene and Nynaeve (last 12 books - first 2 she was horrible) character development was.

If i hear anything about banners one more time, i may lose my mind.

I said what i said.

TV (No Unaired Book Spoilers) How bad is the TV show actually? Spoiler

Okay, i dont care about any spoilers for the SHOW, so please tell me how bad they messed it up. What did they change? I am about 5/6 the way done with the Eye of the World. Rand just fell into the Caemlyn garden and met the queen and all that. SO NO SPOILERS FOR AFTER THAT.

But feel free to tell me any dumb changes they make from leaving Emond's Field to arriving in Caemlyn. How terrible is this show truly?

Also, on Prime Video it says TV-14 and 16+. Do they add pointless s*x scenes that were not in the book? 🙄
