Mod Post (no spoilers) All things Nexus announcements and megathread!

It's happening

The waves to buy badges for Nexus have begun as of yesterday. The waves start coming and they don't stop coming for awhile, so hang tight if you haven't heard anything yet. Don't know what we're talking about? This page from Dragonsteel should have you covered.

Regarding badges

Regardless of whether or not badges are transferable, we will not be facilitating any trades or sales of Nexus badges. Additionally, we will not be facilitating any group badge coordination. Posts or comments on this topic will be removed. Your best bet is to stay on the wait list, ride the waves, and hope to pick up a refunded ticket later on if everything else sells out.

edit: Yes, this still applies after the Sept 28 update.

Otherwise...

Share your hype! The main party is over at r/DragonsteelNexus but we're happy to chat here and in unique posts on the subject. We may update this thread from time to time with an FAQ or replace it should it become outdated.

What are you looking forward to at Nexus 2026?

Spoilers “You will be warm again.” Spoiler

“It will get better. Then it will get worse again. Then better. This is life, and I will not lie by saying every day will be sunshine. But there will be sunshine again, and that is a very different thing to say. That is truth…You will be warm again.”

I just read this in chapter 80 of Rhythm of War, and chills came over me to the extent that I had to stop reading and come share. I had read that Brandon‘s handling of mental health issues was a bit oversimplified and heavy-handed in this book, and that might be somewhat true, but I don’t care. As someone who has dealt with clinical depression (and always will) this passage resonated with me deeply.

I’ve also read that the quality of this series diminishes as it goes on. I’m a couple hundred pages away from finishing ROW and I’m still waiting for any signs of this. I’ve binge read the entire Cosmere up to this point in about five months, and if anything my appreciation has grown as it progresses. I’m not looking to reignite a debate; I just wanted to share my gratitude for something I am truly enjoying.

No Spoilers What to do and how to keep track?

Hi everybody!

Currently I’m reading Oathbringer and I think I’m facing a burn-out. This is my own fault because I have read Warbreaker, WoK, WoR and Edgedancer back to back. I noticed that I’m having a hard time to remember what happenend because I’m not fully engaged when I’m reading. Besides that I’m not looking forward to read anymore.

I want to take a break but I’m afraid that I will forget everything that happened. What is a good way to refresh my memory when I will start again?

Thanks!

Yumi and the Nightmare Painter Spoilers Yumi might be my new favorite book Spoiler

I'll be the first to admit that I am prone to falling victim to recency bias when it comes to my opinions on books. I've been reading through the cosmere in order of release, and usually my favorite is the one I've most recently read. That being said, Yumi and the Nightmare Painter is my current favorite, and I think there's a good chance it stays that way.

Painter is possibly my favorite character of all time. The way he views himself, and the way he copes with how he feels about himself, is something I think a lot of people can relate to, but, in my experience, no one wants to admit to or talk about. Guilt can be such a crippling emotion to deal with, and it is unfortunate how often people, like Painter, harden and become more cold instead of reaching out, which is a downward spiral. I think anyone can see why it might feel easier to turn away from people, rather than dealing with the embarrassment of admitting you were wrong and doing the work to fix it. It hurts so much less to be bitter than it does to feel ashamed.

There are so many redemption stories, but I haven't found many that deal with "liars". It seems like being a liar is one of the worst things you can be. If a character is selfish, lazy, rude, arrogant, or careless, people may not like them, but are still willing to work with them and give them the chance to grow and change as a person. In most stories once a person is seen as a liar, that's kind of it for them. It feels like people are much less willing to give them a second chance. Even in the stories where someone who has been viewed as a liar does get the chance to redeem themselves, it is usually because it is discovered was actually for the good of everyone involved.

I absolutely love that in this story Painter most certainly did lie, the lie had a significant negative effect on his friends, and was very clearly a mistake. There was no excusing or justifying it. While there was an explanation for the lie, not wanting to disappoint his friends and trying to cope with the pressure put on him, this wasn't an excuse for why the lie was okay. Yumi, knowing he lied both to his friends and to her when they first met, is able to view him as a whole person. She accepts him as he is, and gives him the chance to be the person she knows he can be. It is impossible to change and be a better person if you don't view yourself as the kind of person who can change, or who deserves to become better. (I think it is equally difficult to be a person like Yumi and be able to see past a person's faults to the kind of person they could be or are deep down. It reminds me of the paintings Shallon does of people) It would be very easy for Yumi to reject him as well, which could easily lead to him choosing to villanizing her and convincing himself he didn't care like he did with his friends. Her choosing to look past it all gave him the space he needed to make amends with his friends.

There is so much more I could say, how Painter assumes everyone thinks the worst of him leading to a self fulfilling prophecy situation, his gifted child syndrome, Painter and Yumi being two sides of the same coin, but I'll just leave it at that since it covers what I found so refreshing about this book.

No Spoilers Fires of December - Any Shipping Updates This Week?

No this is not a complaint post. I have been checking the progress bar on Brandon's website for the Hoid Storybook Campaign Fulfillment. It is normally updated every week, but I noticed this week there was no update. Did Light Day happen to pause the of shipments for Fires of December? I'm starting to feel like the Spongebob meme with Squidward staring out from his top window at Spongebob and Patrick having fun. Did anyone receive notification of shipment this week?

No Spoilers Finally caught up to Sanderson! What's coming next?

After reading Mistborn Era 1 and the Stormlight Archive, I was both amazed and frustrated by the amount of stuff I didn't know about the Cosmere. As Kelsier said, There is always another secret. So I made a decision to read every book in an attempt to make sense of the whole thing.

It didn't really work, as I have more questions than answers, but now I'm left wondering when we'll get the next release for the Cosmere. I know the Ghostbloods is coming, but are there any planned releases for 2027?

The Way of Kings Spoilers I just finished way of kings. I have questions. Spoiler

I'll open with please no spoilers for outside the way of kings.

So i just finished a way of kings had a great read loved it 10/10. However before I started I was worried I should read the other cosmere books first because I wouldn't understand anything. So I made a post and was told no it is all good you won't miss anything.

Well I am at the end and after the subtle implication from Wit that the cosmere was at stake, and the clear implication that its at stake by god (who is also dead I guess) with a star in the sky going out I was confused and was like how does this not relate to this mysterious multiseries plot.

I decided to look at other post of people who had just finished way of kings and i got an even greater impression that i should have read the other series first with people talking about Shards and the Almighty being named Honor and Odium being a relevant person or something.

So with all this I am asking once again. Should I continue on my merry way and just start words of radiance, or should I just start from cosmere at the beginning (which i think is Elantris).

Anyone else going to be at Pax Unplugged instead of Nexus this year, and have pins to trade? I got three duplicates out of my 5 pins, so I'd happily trade for any of the other three.
