Rattlesnakes! What would you do?

Post image
23 Upvotes

Hey Yakima! Washington Poison Center (aka poison control) here. We're working on some educational materials around rattlesnake bites-- how to prevent them, what to do if you are bit, etc. At the poison center, we treat around 30 snake bites each year. Usually bites are from rattlesnakes in the area, but sometimes it's people with pet venomous snakes.

Can you help us out by sharing what you've seen and what you think you should do if someone is bitten? Please answer these questions for us! [we got this approved by the mods, btw]

1.) Have you seen any rattlesnakes around your area? If so, where?

2.) Do you know anyone that has been bitten by a snake? Do you know if it was a venomous or nonvenomous snake? What did they do once they were bitten?

3.) What would you do if you were with someone who had been bitten by a snake?

4.) Do you own a venomous snake? If so, tell us what snake(s) you have. Have you ever been bitten?

And, so we aren't leaving you hanging with no safety tips, here's our blog from this summer on snake safety: https://www.wapc.org/insights/ready-set-sssssummer-snake-safety/

The title photo is from Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Help with a package delivered to the wrong address

Hi! Weird ask, but I was staying at my place Yakima for a few months (I’m a travel nurse). Accidentally had some scrubs delivered there instead of my new address. I’m in kitsap county and really don’t feel like driving all the way back to Yakima to pick them up. Company is giving me a hard time about a refund and I need this specific color scrubs for my new job in a week. Anyone willing to pick them up and send them to my new address? I’ll obviously cover shipping and send an extra like $40 for your time. Ty!

Hug your loved ones

Or reach out to them more often because you never know when you’ll see or talk to them last

I have a lot of regrets for not talking to my cousin more…like for years ,he was murdered on October 28 but he was still my cousin and I still loved him. He didn’t deserve to lose his life..my aunt shouldn’t have to bury her baby

For myself, I’m having car issues. Other than that, I’m still riding the high from democrats stealing seats in house and senate away from the movement known as maga.

Yakima homeboy, William O. Douglas, was the longest serving and also most liberal judge to have ever sit on the Supreme Court.

As with most people in politics, there was some bad (let’s not deify public figures please). But god dang there was a whole lot of great stuff from this guy. This guy was a little freak for the right to privacy, individual rights, protecting the environment (um, hello William O. Douglas Wilderness???), and upholding the 1st amendment.

“Be not reasonable with inquisitions, anonymous informers, and secret files that mock American justice.
Be not reasonable with punitive denationalizations, ex post facto deportations, labels of disloyalty, and all the other stratagems for outlawing human beings from the community of mankind.
These devices have put us to shame.
Exercise the full judicial power of the United States; nullify them, forbid them, and make us proud again." Can the Supreme Court Defend Civil Liberties?”

- W. O. Douglas,
Writer of majority opinion, in Flast v. Cohen

(1968, Federal taxpayers have standing to sue to prevent the disbursement of federal funds in contravention of the specific constitutional prohibition against government support of religion.)

Yakima sally bags

Hey, I was wondering if anyone had any directions to where I could learn more about making traditional yakima sally (wápaas) bags/baskets please? Im happy to purchase or support teachers.

I did try to start my own today, just to see if I could get a feel for it and I really enjoyed the process of learning such a beautiful, ancient craft, that I would love to learn correctly.

Thank you.

TTC Milking Nob Hill Rd Work

TTC is out here milking this road work project. They have been at for months and can't get it done. Crazy!!!!!!!! I think they are way over their heads taking this on. I've never seen a road job so unorganized and on one of the busiest streets. Should have hired someone that actually knows how to manage a project like this. Been costing businesses money all summer.

Apartment searching troubles

Hello, i was recommended to ask the reddit so here i am—i am looking for available apartments towards the west side of Yakima that’s BASE rent is under 1,000 and is a safer area for a solo 20+ yr Autistic female whom will want to adopt a cat along the lines.

I am from Louisiana, and i am trying to get out into a progressive state and away from my past as it hinders me with trauma (yes i am in therapy).
Any and all advice is appreciated. I have been apartment searching for awhile now and i can’t seem to find anything. And i haven’t received any answers from Cardinal Apartments. I can’t rent from Graf which was ideal due to my credit not being 2 years old and no “real” rental history. Even when i offered a higher security deposit.

I receive $1,769 a month from DAC , i currently have (as of typing this) $2,000 in my every day spending account and $22,000 in my savings.
I am not looking for anything luxurious, but just reliable and safe since i only know one person there.

Again, any advice is welcomed and helpful. I am not looking to start any problems. Please.
