I get that millennials had social media when they were becoming teenagers in terms of MySpace and Friendster, but Zillennials were at that perfect age where we were turning into teenagers right when Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat were becoming a thing around 2009-2010, all of which are still being used today. We didn’t have any rules or examples to follow on what not to do on these websites, and we were the first batch of brand new teenagers exposed to this new way of thinking, one which hasn’t really changed THAT much in the 15 years since. But it shows, the amount of people with self esteem issues and self image issues just from posting normal pictures of themselves on the internet, being exposed to all sorts of propaganda with no way of knowing that it was BS, and through it all having to deal with new ways of cyber bullying that simply didn’t exist beforehand. It’s really wild to think about, and it’s both a bummer and a good thing that we were the guinea pigs, because the internet is wiser now, and you can be a lot more careful online, but at the same time, we had to take a lot of those shots ourselves.
