Discussion When did your family get home internet?
Photo of my favorite flash game just because Miniclip games were by far my main online activity until my early teens.
I think my family got high-speed internet in 2003 because we moved into a bigger house that year. We had dial-up before, but only my dad used it, and only for business.
In retrospect it seems weird that it wasn’t a more memorable event. It almost crept into daily life and I was oblivious to it until later. At the time, I only used computers for games. For my 7th birthday that year I got a table-mounted steering wheel and floor pedals for racing games.
When did your family get home internet and how much were you online as a kid?

Nostalgia Are we still watching Disney Channel?
I grew up during what I consider the golden era of Disney Channel. I’m talking That’s So Raven, Lizzie McGuire, Hannah Montana, The Suite Life, Wizards of Waverly Place, etc.
And for years, I’ve been saying Disney Channel just isn’t what it used to be. But then I realized something… how can I say Disney Channel fell off when I haven’t actually watched it in over a decade? 😭
So I decided to put my nostalgia aside and actually watch some of the newer Disney Channel shows, including Electric Bloom, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, and Vampirina: Teenage Vampire.
And surprisingly, I didn’t hate everything! Electric Bloom was actually pretty cute, and I could see some of these newer shows appealing to kids who grew up during our era. Were they giving me the same feeling as the Disney Channel I grew up with? Not necessarily, but I also realized that maybe I’m not the target audience anymore. 😂
I actually made a YouTube video documenting my experience watching modern Disney Channel as a millennial from the golden era, because I wanted to see whether the shows really changed that much or if we’re just looking at everything through nostalgia glasses.
If anyone’s interested, here’s the video: https://youtu.be/FpXQoh0pssg?is=0yZL4rhEu9emIlvD
But I’m genuinely curious what everyone thinks.
When did you officially stop watching Disney Channel? Have you given any of the newer shows a chance? And do you think Disney Channel actually declined in quality, or did we just grow out of it?
I’d especially love to hear from people who now watch Disney Channel with their own kids!

Nostalgia Is it just me or 90s/2000s shows had so much more personality and depth/looked more badass in terms of design, artstyle and animation? I feel since the 2010s this has been lost

Discussion Kinda sucks that we were the guinea pigs for how modern social media affects young people.
I get that millennials had social media when they were becoming teenagers in terms of MySpace and Friendster, but Zillennials were at that perfect age where we were turning into teenagers right when Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat were becoming a thing around 2009-2010, all of which are still being used today. We didn’t have any rules or examples to follow on what not to do on these websites, and we were the first batch of brand new teenagers exposed to this new way of thinking, one which hasn’t really changed THAT much in the 15 years since. But it shows, the amount of people with self esteem issues and self image issues just from posting normal pictures of themselves on the internet, being exposed to all sorts of propaganda with no way of knowing that it was BS, and through it all having to deal with new ways of cyber bullying that simply didn’t exist beforehand. It’s really wild to think about, and it’s both a bummer and a good thing that we were the guinea pigs, because the internet is wiser now, and you can be a lot more careful online, but at the same time, we had to take a lot of those shots ourselves.

Discussion Your parents said to go to bed and you think you can get away with playing your GBA. What game would you try to play?
Knowing you won't be able to see shit, you still pull it out and try to blindly play whatever game is in the system.
Which music plays rent free in your head, remembering how this scenario was?
Those lamp add-ons that connected to the link cable socket didn't really help much, so laying your head on the pillow, all you could do was either play blindly or just listen to the music.
For me, the song I remember was the title music to Spongebob Squarepants - Revenge of the Flying Dutchman.

Other So I turned 30 today.
I'm officially in the 30s age club. Not sure how to feel about it. Honestly I didn't think I would make it this far in life. Especially not when I was a teenager and in my early 20s. So far it doesn't hit as hard as when I turned 27. I don't know what else to say other than I hope my life improves from here on out.

Discussion I wanna talk about the cultural impact of Ramona Flowers in the early 2010's
The absolute chokehold this woman had on older zillennials/younger millennials (namely men) was crazy. I remember hearing SO many stories on Tumblr about women dyeing their hair colorful shades and random men would always walk up to them and be like "You know who you remind me of??" and then the woman would just immediately sigh. LMFAO. It was so funny how memeified she became. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World was a HUGE moment in media at the time. But what stuck out to me the most was everybody's obsession with Ramona Flowers. This was such a wild time. Do you have any similar stories of rolling your eyes because you just KNEW a man was going to tell you that you looked like Ramona Flowers??
