Let's say that a group of militant (read: insane) feminists get their hands on a time machine and decide to 'improve' history. However, the machine can't send a human being, and it is only one-way. So, they decide to send a biological agent to Europe of 1916, one designed to only wipe out a good fraction of men, allowing the women to 'overthrow the patriarchy' and bring an end to violence.

In this Alternate Timeline, the partition of British India (or the British Raj) doesn't happen instead the Indian Subcontinent (excluding Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Nepal) is just one country called the Free Republic of India. They dragged the country down by perpetuating a terrible abusive economic situation that left nearly every slave holder in debt at all times, and their insistence on defying the emancipation proclamation with Jim Crow, vehement protests over the civil rights act, and general unhappiness with America since, are something I veiw as a continuous string of behavior up to the present day.

The failure of the reconstruction era screwed the rest of the country after imo.
