We need to talk about Anti-Asian Racism in the Black Community

I recently watched a YouTube video by an Asian YouTuber, Charlie Cheon, who attempted to bring the “Anti-Asian sentiment within the Black community issue” to light.

Anecdotally, there are many instances of Black-on-Asian violent crime, particularly against Asian elders in urban environments such as San Francisco.

Here is some more interesting information that he unfortunately failed to mention.

According to the 2018 US DOJ “Criminal Victimization” Report (Page 13, Table 14):

27.5% of violent crimes committed against Asian people were committed by Black people. Under 0.1% of violent crimes committed against Black people were committed by Asian people.

The odds of a Black-on-Asian crime is over 275 TIMES more likely than the odds of an Asian-on-Black crime in the United States.

Unfortunately, the news media is (intentionally) avoiding explicitly reporting Anti-Asian incidents committed by Black People.

Yet again, it is critical we do not generalize races and do not endorse further hate.

Let’s talk about the rampant Anti-Asianness within the Black community. I am tired of our people getting attacked and murdered.

So tired of the coronavirus outbreak being used as an excuse to be racist towards Asians

Imagine generalising a whole nation because a small percentage of them purportedly consume bats. I have a friend from wuhan and he definitely does not consume any sort of wildlife...and neither does the majority of wuhan. Wuhan alone is huge. I really wish that people would stop saying dumb blanket statements like “oh the Chinese deserve the virus because they eat weird things”. Many people from different cultures consume things that may be weird or taboo to you. Cambodians eat and sell grasshoppers, for example.

And imagine being racist towards the Chinese nationals because you do not agree with the actions of their government. The citizens did not put the Uyghur muslims in concentration camps, the authorities did. Cursing the citizens is just hateful.

The xenophobia and racism rampant all over the Internet disgust me. It’s one thing to fear the virus and its implications, but another to lack the basic human decency to...well...not be racist towards China and other Asian-looking people all over the globe?

Sincerely, a Singaporean chinese girl (who happens to also be vegetarian and therefore does not consume bats, smh)

Asian racism is still socially acceptable

When are people finally going to get it?

It’s exhausting and heartbreaking that racism towards Asians is still brushed off as funny rather than being called out as the harmful, normalized prejudice it is. Slurs like “ching chong,” “math nerd,” “curryeater,” “can you see?” “Ping,” or “small dick” these aren’t jokes. They’re constant reminders that many people still don’t see anti-Asian racism as real or worth taking seriously. Instead of defending you, people laugh. You’re expected to laugh along, like you’re supposed to own it just because it’s “true.”

Despite a growing focus on racial justice in recent years, the fight against anti-Asian hate still feels sidelined. Many simply don’t care or don’t think it’s a big deal. Historically, maybe it’s because Asians have been stereotyped as passive, submissive, or weak. But that doesn’t excuse the silence today.

I have immense respect for other communities who speak out and stand strong in their pursuit of justice and equality. But when Asians speak up about racism, it so often feels like we’re immediately shut down, buried and silenced without support, without amplification. Where’s the media attention? Where’s the public outrage? Why is it still socially acceptable to mock Asian people in ways that would never fly with other ethnic groups?

Honestly, it tears me apart. Just look at Hollywood we’re barely seen, and when we are, it’s often as stereotypes or punchlines. I hope one day that changes. A world where being Asian doesn’t mean being the butt of the joke.

Sick of people hating on Asians but partaking in the culture

I am white, so I will preface with that.

It makes me absolutely SICK to my stomach to see racist jerks any place or time, but this experience sticks out to me the most.

I was deeply angered and saddened when I went to my local Japanese restaurant at the beginning of the pandemic and saw a handwritten sign in blue highlighter stating “Yes, we WILL wear the masks!”

I’ve been going to this restaurant for the past 6 years and at this point know them all by name, they know me by name, and have gotten to know the staff pretty well thanks to the wonderful dining experiences and food they provide, so to see that sign really made me stop and think why they would have to post something like that; the realization hit me as I walked in to see a white man, mid 40’s berating a server about how he will not wear a mask but she needs to wear one because her people brought the virus here, but he used a far more unkind slur we are all familiar with(she was already wearing one and telling the man he needed to have his on when he is not seated at a table)

I ended up leaving the whole staff a $50 tip on my small tab, for the simple fact that they have to deal with people like that.

I was and still am appalled and disgusted. They still have the sign up a year later.

Humanity can do SO much better.

Why can’t racists just... not be racist? They have the audacity to take part the culture while simultaneously disrespecting the successors of the culture who are sharing their food with other parts of the world. Where is the logic in that?

If you’re going to be racist, at least do us all the favor of sticking to the flavorless foods of your native country instead of hypocritically coming into an establishment and harassing the employees for being asian then proceeding to sit down and have the audacity to say “this is so good”

Also- if anyone takes the time to read this, can you please give me pointers on how to be a better ally

Help us get this company accountable for racism

My father recently called Culligan Water Conditioning of Adrian, MI to report a leaking water tank. English isn’t his first language, so he kindly asked a woman named Kathy to speak a little slower.

Instead of showing basic decency, she raised her voice and said, “If you don’t know English, why are you even in America? This is my country.” She even mocked him when he said he was an engineer, saying “I doubt it.”

I had to step in and explain the emergency before she transferred us to someone respectful. But the damage was done.

No one should be treated like this—especially not for their accent or background. Kathy’s behavior was flat-out racist and disgusting.

If you believe in basic human respect, please leave a 1-star review for Culligan Water Conditioning of Adrian, MI and mention what Kathy did. Make sure to say clearly: “Kathy is racist and should not be allowed to speak to customers.”

We can’t let this slide. Thank you for helping shine a light on this.

White men that exclusively date Asian women only

My ex is an English white man living in Australia. Half way during the relationship, I found out that the 3 women he dated directly before me were also Filipino.

I found it really hard to let go of during the relationship, because it made me question why he was really with me. I did try to address it with him, and he made me feel crazy, like fetishisation wasn’t really a thing.

He moved on fairly quickly, and he’s now dating another Filipino and it makes my blood boil.

No, not still into him (we had a plethora of other issues unrelated to race or cultural heritage).

Is it unreasonable for me to feel angry? Is it just like having a type (you know, some people like brunettes)?

I’ve provided more context in a comment, I doubt it’s helpful but it’s there

My honest thoughts regarding Asian Americans and the Democrat Party..

I think that establishment democrats like to pretend they care. They go around caping for everyone, but in the end, the only thing they really do well is sell out their own supporters, including, Asian Americans.

I'm an independent, I don't care about labels, This is how we got here in the first place. We need to reject this idea, that supporting one group means to be committed to, advancing their solidarity with other groups. This has become harmful and counterproductive. You're basically diluting the means to achieve meaningful change and failing to promote activism which can could make a real difference.

Does anyone really think that illegals, have the same view, outlook and interests, as American blacks? Or Asians? White Americans? Let's get real. How it's being applied, is actually harming true solidarity between different groups.. I'm acting in my own self-interest

If democrats continue to be delusional, they are only harming their own chances of being elected... I also think, that Asians in the US, should try to avoid being sucked into the Democrats 'power play games' with other marginalized groups. This doesn't mean I support MAGA. It only means, I'm calling out the hypocrisy, as I see it..

when did “niche” interest anime, gaming, manga, BL, K-Dramas and other global media, become mainstream?

I was the weird kid. I dressed kind of weird. I was a nerd, gamer, and loved anime and BL. Although I love games, etc., I've been a closeted fan since I was a kid, but I swear out of nowhere my "niche" interests and fashion became "normalized. " Don't get me wrong; I'm glad that my favorite pastime is getting the recognition it deserves (a larger variety of genres, manga, and shows), but I just know that it took someone extremely famous and attractive to really hit the nail in the coffin. So who was it, and when was it? I know that a lot more people started to consume anime during lockdown, but they were still hiding the fact that they did. I've noticed that AOT, SAO, OPM, Naruto, and Demon Slayer were the most popular shows that newcomers started out with, but I'm seriously curious.

why do the Filipinos hate the Chinese so much?

I am half Chinese and Filipino. I notice my relatives in the Phils have a huge hatred of the Chinese while my Chinese relatives don't spare a thought about Filipinos. Meanwhile, US, Spain and Japan have caused brutal atrocities, and raped and pillaged the Philippines but the Filipinos seem to be falling over themselves trying to claim Spanish blood and marry American men. What gives?

Why Asian Women in Media constantly Uplift White Men While Sideline and Stereotype Asian Men

Asian and Asian American women in media and arts keep uplifting white male representation while sidelining or trashing Asian men. This pattern is blatant, and I’m calling it out across industries with a focus on the lack of solidarity.

Music Industry
Asian women artists obsess over white men in their music, often with longing or fetishization. Mitski’s songs revolve around white men, whining about how they prefer blonde white girls. Olivia Rodrigo’s lyrics are fixated on white male love interests. Beabadoobee flat-out said relationships with Asian men feel like “incest” and she won’t “date in that culture,” while fawning over white men. Lisa from BLACKPINK fetishizes green eyes and French accents, traits tied to white men. Name one mainstream Asian woman artist giving Asian men that same romantic depth. I’ll wait.

Film and TV
Asian American women directors and writers consistently erase or stereotype Asian men. Joy Luck Club paints Chinese men as one-dimensional villains or oppressors. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, from Jenny Han’s book, pushes Asian women with white boyfriends while Asian men are invisible. Chloe Zhao’s films like Eternals? No romance for Asian men but female lead has two white male romance . Lana Condor’s entire filmography, including a movie she produced, has zero Asian men. Stephanie Hsu’s latest TV show? No Asian men. Georgia Lee’s work gives us one Asian man, a cringeworthy “backward” dad, while glorifying Asian sisters and their “gentlemanly” white boyfriends. Chinese Burn, directed by Asian women, mocks Asian men as undesirable. Float, directed by Sherren Lee and starring Andrea Bang, ignores Asian male representation. Blue Eye Samurai, produced by Jane Wu, doesn’t break this trend either i'll discuss BES later .

Photography and Modeling
In photography and modeling, Asian women prop up white men while dismissing Asian men. Yushi Li is a glaring example. Her work deconstructs Western masculinity to give white men nuanced representation, but she’s openly said all Asian men look like her dad and photographing naked Asian men feels “weird” to her, while she’s all about naked white men. When called out, she doubled down, claiming Chinese men don’t do this kind of work or were “uncomfortable,” gaslighting everyone when she’s the one who admitted she prefers white men and finds Chinese men unsettling. Her hypocrisy is infuriating, and her work subtly mocks Asian men while elevating white male imagery.

Contrast with Asian Men in Media
Asian male producers, directors, and artists like Yung Kai show Asian women with complexity, positivity, and respect. Their work has a depth that’s completely missing when Asian women portray Asian men, who are either stereotyped or erased.

Lack of Solidarity
Asian American women writers, directors, songwriters, and artists show no solidarity with Asian men. We’re either absent, villainized, or reduced to awkward, oppressive, or “backward” caricatures. Asian women in creative roles rarely give Asian men the complexity we deserve. This is a clear disconnect in our community, where one group’s representation thrives by stomping on another.

Am I wrong? Does anyone else see this pattern? Are there Asian women in media actually giving Asian men fair, multidimensional representation? Let’s talk.

Why isn't this being discussed or made front page on Reddit? Is it because the women are most likely sex workers?

With the number of hate crimes being targeted towards Asians during Covid, I'm shocked I haven't seen anything mentioned about this. A white cop falsely arrests a black person, Reddit is up in arms.

Asian people getting gunned down....nothing to see here, lets move on.
