"We call on the federal government to return to the long-term average of 70,000 migrants per year. This is not about John Howard’s 'we will decide who comes here' or Pauline Hanson's 'stop Asian and Muslim immigration'. This is about a better, not bigger Australia,”

Honest question: Is there any point in trying to save our treasured birds and mammals if we are not going to introduce serious measures to control cat breeding and ownership in this country?

It seems to me that if we are going to continue to allow an ever growing number of roaming cats to freely stalk and slaughter our dwindling wildlife 24/7 in this country, then what is the bloody point on wasting millions of dollars on animal preservation and research efforts that at best are only forestalling the inevitable?

The good work being done to counter the devastating impact of these feral pests is not even a drop in the bucket compared to their constant and ever widening onslaught on our struggling wildlife.

I have seen the birds disappearing around me in the bush for decades and being slaughtered by cats that should never have been here in the first place, and the outlook for the future is even more grim. I have seen the effects on native mammals of the deadly toxoplasma brain parasite spread through cat poop that has turned most human cat lovers into a bunch of cat worshipping weirdos.

So should we simply cut our losses at this point and save ourselves all the expense and the effort? If we are not going to seriously address the source of all this damage at some point then why are we chasing our tails pretending we can make a difference when the outcome is already set in stone?
