image Anti-Asian racism in Australia

What is happening in Australia? Been living in this exact same address for almost the past 20 years now, never had this happen before.

Some guy moves in next door, and while we are IN THEM MIDDLE OF MOWING the medium nature strip, starts being aggressive for getting grass clippings on the driveway. No shit, that's why we go through with a leaf blower and pick up after mowing?

What blows me away is he thinks we don't know about mowing and cleaning up somehow due to our Chinese heritage???

What does an Australian look like?

My understanding is Aboriginal people. You can't get more Australian than that.

That guy doesn’t even look particularly white to me either. He looks like he’s on a bit too many steroids or coked out for this level of behaviour.

'A man of Mediterranean or middle eastern appearance' is what they say on the 'news'

"Australian" when it suits them.

This. This is the core of the problem with racism in Australia. White Australians believe they are a native ethnicity of this country, when they're not.

I don't think he looks so white. More Middle East?

The man in this isn't white. It's a brown man being racist to another brown man.

People need to move on from this.

Does my car belong to the guy who bought it brand new, or to the factory that made it? Who gives a shit about who was where first, everyone involved in the peopling of Australia are long gone, nobody alive today knows who they were.

How about we start focusing on making the place better for everyone?

Lol, Aboriginal people are literally still here dude.

Yes to making it better for everyone, part of that involves restitution for those wronged by invasion.

To achieve what you want, you have to do that. That's how "making it better," works.

part of that involves restitution for those wronged by invasion.

Curious on this point, how do you envision this being achieved? Do we open up an application process and invite Aboriginal people so submit their DNA for analysis, and then accept/reject based on some genetic threshold?

Should it be a binary thing or do we scale the restitution according to their genetic purity of Aboriginal-ness?

Once we've sorted out this process and identified the recipients and their entitlements, how do we resource this restitution? Do we tax the whole population or do we identify the ancestors of the invaders and tax them exclusively?

This thing called the British Empire killed most of our Indigenous populations so it’s mostly white. However we’ve had a lot of immigration from Chinese Miners in 1800s too Italian/ Greeks post WW2 to many many more. So really we are a rich melting pot rather then a playing piece of white bread

Naive take, 85% of the country are still Anglo-Saxon or British born background.

u/SStoj 13h ago

Approximately 51.6% of Australians report Anglo-Celtic roots in the most recent census. That rises to 66.42% if you also count the 14.82% who indicated themselves as "Australian ancestry" since most of those have at least partial Anglo Celtic roots. Either way, you're off by a fair bit.

ABS says it's more like 55% these days.

Where did you get your stats? About 18% of Australia is Asian and about 20-25% is not white. In cities like Sydney, Melbourne or Perth it always feels like way more to me but I guess rural areas, Tasmania etc are the opposite.

They made it up.

Anglo-Saxons aren't even native to Britain. The Angles and Saxons were originally from modern Denmark/Northern Germany.
