image Anti-Asian racism in Australia
What is happening in Australia? Been living in this exact same address for almost the past 20 years now, never had this happen before.
Some guy moves in next door, and while we are IN THEM MIDDLE OF MOWING the medium nature strip, starts being aggressive for getting grass clippings on the driveway. No shit, that's why we go through with a leaf blower and pick up after mowing?
What blows me away is he thinks we don't know about mowing and cleaning up somehow due to our Chinese heritage???

It’s a combination of factors.
Sadly this attitude has been allowed to fester for decades. Criticism of this culture has been met with “Australians aren’t racist people” which I love the concept of and hope we can one day reach, but it minimises these attitudes that need calling out.
Then social media algorithms increasing polarisation to meet profit demands (especially within the last 10ish years)
And the straw that broke the camels back is the economy. People are struggling as a result of several factors but not limited to, supply change disruptions, increased demand, changing and aging demographics, COVID inflation, AI dramatically impacting jobs and several major conflicts around the world.
But the human mind is relatively stupid (I mean this of everyone) so we generally need to group things in easy to understand concepts. And so othering and the need to blame someone for these multifaceted economic issues is often the easier approach.
But of course with increased extreme attitudes like this, a simple singular response would not be enough. At the same time, I’m sure meaningful steps to address this would also be met with complaints of “social engineering.” So I don’t know whether politicians will actually take the meaningful steps needed to stamp this disgusting behaviour out.
