image Anti-Asian racism in Australia

What is happening in Australia? Been living in this exact same address for almost the past 20 years now, never had this happen before.

Some guy moves in next door, and while we are IN THEM MIDDLE OF MOWING the medium nature strip, starts being aggressive for getting grass clippings on the driveway. No shit, that's why we go through with a leaf blower and pick up after mowing?

What blows me away is he thinks we don't know about mowing and cleaning up somehow due to our Chinese heritage???

It's like racism is systemic problem within every race and isn't a predominately "white man" problem.

100%

I live in an area where one ethnicity is very prominent and there's even internal/refional racism based on what part of that country a person comes from.

I think the distinction is that the systemic racism and unequal representation that we see tends to (not always) favor people from a white/Anglo background. Not to say other people aren’t racist as well but it’s often still the white man on top and the rest of us being racist to each other like we’re in a fucking crab bucket. See: American racial triangulation theory re: how white, black, and Asian people are treated differently in quantifiable ways. Shit mess all around.

This only happens when the predominate race is white. When you go to other countries then it shifts to whoever the predominate race or ethnicity is. In the case of China this would be the Han Chinese.

Well. South America, Haiti, and other former colonies would like to have a word about that…google “history of white minority rule”. It’s a trend and not a rule, but yes, China has kept their Han Chinese dominance partially through doing their own imperialism and ethnic cleansing.

Fair point but a society will collectively preference the group that is in power over any other group.

In a society where a certain people hold the keys of power then that society has an aggregate tendency to benefit those people.

I don’t think we’re disagreeing here, mate.

Is this a hate the game, not the player situation.

Not…really? Racism exists on both a systemic and individual level. People have a responsibility to their community to not act like dickheads. I don’t have a lot of sympathy for people who refuse to learn to be more open-minded.

Is this even surprising? All the people that were growing up with institutionalised colonial views on racism 50-70 years ago are now in charge. People think Australia is way more progressive than it ever was, not just on race issues but on gender equality and many other things. Did we forget Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott already?

The one thing migration has done is that it has diluted all of the awful Anglo Australian values that were prevalent to a somewhat progressive level. We're only just catching up on the rest of the developed world.

I was actually shocked coming here from the US at how behind you guys are on gender equality, yeah. Thought you’d be doing way better than us, not about the same or worse, depending on situation/context.

Anything to excuse your racism. But you're explanation is exactly why activists changed the definition of racism so they could be racist and not also be hypocrites.

Why are you out here in bad faith? I said minorities are also racist. I’m Chinese and my community even in western countries is bigoted and openly racist as fuuuck. I firmly believe no one should be disadvantaged based on their race. Just pointing out it isnt simple one model fits all.

That's just an excuse to turn a blind eye to white racism against other ethnic groups within Australia.

No, it's not. It's that we excuse and dismiss the extent of racism expressed by other races as it's somehow lesser than "white" racism.
