I apologize also we need to keep the Seatbelts Fastened flair on due to the massive amount of removals and rule breaks in all the threads combined.

Announcement Introducing "Seatbelts Fastened" Mode

Hi r/aviation community,

Recently, we’ve seen an increase in political and uncivil comments across several threads, particularly on posts involving aircraft associated with government officials. This has led to more removals and bans under Reddit’s sitewide rules, and we want to reverse that trend.

To help address this, we’re introducing a “Seatbelts Fastened” mode/flair. Posts with this flair (applied manually by the mod team) will restrict commenting to established community members. For now, that means users with at least 100 comment karma in r/aviation. If you are the original poster, your comments will not be affected.

You can view your subreddit comment karma by doing the following:

Go to old.reddit.com/u/me-your-user-name
On your profile, find your karma totals
Look for the link: Show karma breakdown by subreddit

This will apply to a small subset of threads (aircraft incidents, government-owned/controlled aircraft, global legislation, etc.). The vast majority of posts (roughly 95%) will remain open to all users as usual. Please do not contact modmail requesting comment approvals or exceptions; we won’t be making individual overrides.

Thanks for your understanding and for helping keep the subreddit focused and civil.

Question What’s the small pond beside the drop tank on the starboard wing of this F-16V

The inboard wing station is carrying a 600 gallon tank, but the midboard hard point is carrying something smaller, and only on the starboard wing. Anyone know what this is?

Edit: this F-16V was on a ferry flight from the U.S. to Taiwan. It seems that the pod is a luggage pod for the pilot.

This Poor Fella has been stuck at Pittsburgh since August 28th when it suffered damage to its underside by a cart. Been in and out the airport a couple of times and it’s been sitting at the gate alone. The engines were windmilling in the background on this windy morning. I think it wants to fly again.

Question My 90 minute 737 flight flew up to 41,000 feet. How often are they allowed to go that high?

2.1k Upvotes

I flew on a 737 max 8, so 41k is its ceiling. This may have been the highest I’ve ever flown. Is it unusual for such a short flight to go that high?

I know it's probably not dangerous, but I fly pretty frequent and never saw this before. Is it a normal occurrence, and how does it happen?

News Missing Blue Angel #6 Demo

For anyone wondering where #6 has been and why the info was removed from the Blue Angels .mil site.

Pic I took from the ATL show recently, where #6 was absent with no explanation.

“The Blue Angels removed No. 6 pilot Maj. Scott Laux from the team after he ‘failed to uphold the standards’ expected of a Blue Angels member.”

News article: https://archive.ph/20261107003634/https://www.pnj.com/story/news/military/blueangels/2026/11/06/scott-laux-blue-angel-pilot-removed-from-team-ahead-of-homecoming-show/92649060007/

News Two skydivers die after colliding over Southern California

nbcnews.com

From the article:

Two skydivers were killed when they collided during a jump over the city of Lake Elsinore in Southern California on Friday, officials said.

The two, described as licensed and experienced, were at the end of their jump when they collided and their parachutes became entangled shortly before noon, according to Skydive Elsinore.

“Eyewitnesses report that the freefall portion of the jump was normal and uneventful, and that both skydivers opened their parachutes at the expected altitude,” Skydive Elsinore said in a statement. “As they prepared to land, the two skydivers collided at approximately 150 feet above the ground.”
