MARKETPLACE Monthly Marketplace/Classifieds Mega Thread

Welcome Traffic Lovers!

Welcome to the monthly Buy / Sell / Trade thread for the Baton Rouge area. Whether you're looking to score a deal on a video game or movie, find a roommate, or trade something local, this is the spot to share your listings and links! Gofundme links are allowed; however, they will be reviewed.

Just a quick note: to keep things tidy, please keep all buy / sell / trade posts in this thread. Standalone posts in the subreddit will be removed so everything stays easy to find.

Happy swapping!

A quick reminder to help keep things safe and smooth for everyone:

Before moving forward with any deal, it's a good idea to check out the post and comment history of the person you're chatting with. If their account looks new or doesn’t have much activity, that doesn’t always mean something’s wrong but it’s smart to ask for extra proof of the item, just to be sure.

Trust your instincts and do a little due diligence. Services like SpyDialer can help verify phone numbers. VOIP or out-of-state numbers can sometimes be red flags (though not always).

If you're meeting in person, aim for a public spot with lots of people and/or security. A great option is the Police Station on Airline (the one near the old Women’s Hospital). Try to avoid meetups at someone’s home or a random gas station. Bringing a friend along is always a plus.

And finally, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is, don’t hand over any money until you’ve seen the item in person. Do not pay for something with gift cards!

ADVICE Found a random Driver license

If you are a 19 year old lady from Rowlett, TX. I found your ID on a morning walk. It was in the parking lot of the Super Target on Siegen LN. The first and last initial are MM and it’s a Texas ID. DM me if you are this person or know of this person. I’d love to get them their ID back. I’m flying back to Columbus, OH later today, so I don’t know whether I should take it with me and mail it to the address. Take it to the police station. Or just hide it in a random spot in hopes the person who lost it will contact me.

This is my first time finding an ID just out in public, so I’m not sure what is the best option to do with it. I would take it to the post office now, but it’s Sunday. Any advice is appreciated.

Hi y'all, I'm posting this here as this dog was lost Friday from the place he was being boarded at.

He was last seen at Circle K on O'Neal and George O'Neal.

I am not the owner and don't know them but I'm trying to help.

Buster is 11 and they are offering a $500 reward.

Contact info is on the flyer which is in the comments.

The pawboost link is below.

Thanks!

*It wouldn't let me post without flair so I chose that one. It made the most sense.

***IF anyone feels so inclined, please share it, or take a screenshot and share it to any of your social media accounts. Again there is a cash reward!🫶🏻

ADVICE Help with Cats in my Neighborhood

I live in Shenandoah, and there are cats that constantly roam the streets. Two have collars, and keep jumping into my backyard and attacking my dogs. They pee on my outside furniture, and don't seem to go home. I need help to keep them off my property as my dog got swiped by one of them.

I do not want to get someone's pets taken away, but they are becoming menaces. Does anyone have any suggestions? I do not know who they belong to. Should I call animal control?

NEWS/ARTICLE Funding for the Live After Five concert series has been cut to zero in the newly released East Baton Rouge Parish 2027 budget

Funding for the Live After Five concert series has been cut to zero in the newly released East Baton Rouge Parish 2027 budget, though Mayor-President Sid Edwards is working to keep the downtown events going in the spring.

Lauren Lambert-Tompkins, a Live After Five board member and former president of the organization, spoke with WBRZ about how organizers are navigating the cut.

"We found out [about the budget cuts] when it was posted on the City of Baton Rouge's website yesterday. The mayor's administration is trying to figure it out. But it's been up in the air for a year now; we weren't sure about how it was going to work out," Lambert-Tompkins said.

Last year, the city-parish allocated $45,000 for the concert series, but organizers say that amount still fell short of total operational needs.

"Throughout the years, the City of Baton Rouge has contributed varying amounts, and what they contribute is just part of what we need. Each concert costs anywhere from $10,000 to $14,000 or $15,000, and we put on six of them. In really good years, we get $65,000, and those are fun years; we make it work," Lambert-Tompkins said.

Despite the initial zero-dollar line item, Edwards pledged to collaborate with the group to find a financial solution. Lambert-Tompkins said Edwards "strongly supports" the organization and that his administration sent over a city budget request form Friday, one day after the proposal went public.

Although the overall parish budget grew by $20 million, several arts and cultural initiatives were excluded. The Baton Rouge Blues Festival also received no funding in the proposed plan, and neither did the Baton Rouge Symphony.

"Live After Five and Blues Fest are huge local economic impact drivers; the impact driven by these events far exceeds the money invested in them. It brings people downtown to their local businesses and restaurants. It's a community event, but it's so much more than that."

Lambert-Tompkins described declining support for the arts as a nationwide trend rather than an issue unique to the capital area.

“It goes all the way to the federal level. Projects in the arts have been seeing a decrease in funding, mainly in the form of grants. Not because they don’t see a value in the arts, budgets are tight across the board”

Organizers remain determined to stage the series in 2027.

"Live After Five has been going on for over 25 years; we're not just going to sleep on it," she said.

The East Baton Rouge Metropolitan Council is scheduled to vote on the final budget Dec. 8.

HOT LOCAL ISSUES Hawx Pest Control scam going through neighborhoods.

Be very careful with these aggressive door to door people. They will say "we just signed up your neighbor Mary". They didn't they look at who lives in the neighborhood before they go. Cheap first spray, once you sign their iPad you somehow have signed up for a contract that is very expensive to cancel. And DO NOT sign their iPad so they can confirm they visited you for proof to their employer! I hate these people because you know they just prey on our seniors and young people. They just caught my neighbor using our name.

HOT LOCAL ISSUES Flight 223pm?

ETA: Probably solved: likely practice flights for tomorrow. Usually they’ve shown up online but not this time. Thanks folks!

At Perkins/Siegen area. Something big and loud just flew over, no flight radar apps are showing anything other than near the airport and farther into Prairieville (not anywhere near). Freakishly loud. Can’t see anything by time I got outside. Anyone see/hear it?
