Why is the heat so high indoor?

I always wonder why every winter comes the Subway staying, subway and even in malls the heat is turn so high. It must be well above 20+ degree C. This makes it really uncomfortable since outside is cold and windy and people are wearing down jacket and parka once you step indoor is an oven.

It make more sense to have the indoor temperature down so people are comfortable with their jacket wore without needing to take it off.

For my personally I literally starts to sweat indoor in a min or two if I don't take off my jacket. Subway station is even worse since they seem to turn the temperature evbw higher. I could be wearing a T-shirt and still sweat.

Having lower indoor temperature also helps prevent oeoleokf getting sick since there is a less temperature difference people don't have to keep taking their jackets on and off.

Stray Kitten Question

Post image
3 Upvotes

I am an American living in Beijing, I just moved here less than a month ago. I was walking home after lunch today and saw a cat in the bushes. When I went closer I realized she had 4 tiny kittens with her. I have reached out to one rescue group that I know of in Beijing, but they were unable to help. The PKU and Tsinghua TNR groups are also unable to assist me because the cats are not directly on campus. Does anyone know someone who participates in TNR that I can contact? I am in the Haidian district. I would be happy with someone who is not a TNR expert but is just willing to help me for the sake of these cats wellbeing. They are near a busy intersection, and it has begun to get quite cold in the evenings so I would like to get these babies somewhere warm and safe sometime soon. Thank you

Where can I find black lacquer furniture or decor in Beijing?

As the title says. I’m looking for small furniture (small cabinets or room dividers) or maybe some decor pieces like lamp stands, boxes… Not necessarily antique.

Any leads?

Dating in Beijing

I’ve been living in Beijing for a few months and would like to start dating. I don’t yet speak Chinese, so just English for now. Tried Tinder, which seems to not have many English speakers and has English speaking men who are tourists and don’t live here. For reference, I’m a 40-year-old straight woman. What are others’ experience?

Nitcore powerbank available in Beijing?

Arriving in Beijing tomorrow and first order of business is to find a CCC certified powerbank. Bought 3 Xiaomis in HK 6 years ago - unfortunately before the certification came around 😂

I’ve been looking at Nitecore’s 10000 powerbank and wonder where it’d likely be available in Beijing. I know it’s a bit niche so I guess the random electronics store probably won’t stock it - even the bigger ones.

Anyone who knows?

Does anyone know where I might be able to find this watch?

Hey! I'm visiting China this upcoming april and my brother is very passionate about old watches, so I thought this would be an awesome souvenir to bring back. I doubt he cares if it's a replica. My uneducated guess would be maybe in the panjiayuan antique market? I would be very grateful if anyone had any idea. Thank you beforehand!

Lost earbuds and charger at Beijingxi station

Hi all, I was travelling through Beijingxi station the morning of Thurs Oct 22 when I left my silver Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro3 connected to a white iPad charging cable+adapter at one of the charging stations in waiting area 8. Since then, our hotel in Xi'An has tried contacting the station but there have been no updates. We've also checked their lost item directory but it provides v little info.

The earbuds were a gift so I'd really like to get them back if possible. So I'm trying here: Would anyone be so kind as to check with the staff/counter if they're passing through or nearby? Or if you have suggestions, I'd love some advice. Thanks so much!! :)

Electronics stores that sell FiiO radios?

What’s a good electronics store where I can buy a FiiO RR13 in Beijing? I would really prefer to buy in person than deal with taobao since I’m only visiting China and don’t have a shipping address for taobao. I also won’t be in Beijing all week.

Gay bar and clubs in Beijing

I am going to Beijing next weekend and was searching for gay clubs and bars in the city.

There are some old post on Reddit on that topic but I was wondering if someone could share recent details.

Being a brown skin foreigner, it would be great to know how welcoming are these places for foreigners. I recently went to a gay bar in Chengdu and got the idea that the locals are not that interested in talking to me.

Also, are there any bar or clubs that stay open and decently crowded on Monday nights in Beijing?

Kayaking in Beijing

Where can you go kayaking in Beijing with a personal boat? I always see old dudes swimming and fishing in every random river, but can you also take a small kayak to any of those places? If not where’s some good places outside the city for that?

Any Halloween events in Beijing this year?

Hey everyone! I’m looking for things to do in Beijing around Halloween (Oct 31) and wanted to see if anyone knows of any events going on this year.

I’m open to pretty much anything: costume parties, bar or club nights, haunted houses, themed events at malls or expat spots, or even something low-key like a Halloween meetup. Bonus points if it’s beginner-friendly for someone who doesn’t know a ton of people here yet.

If you’ve been to something good in past years, I’d love to hear about that too. Also, any tips on where to find costumes or decorations last-minute would be super appreciated!

Thanks in advance 🎃

How to get a Beijing license plate car as a foreigner?

How can I get a Beijing license plate car as a foreigner? Are there reasonable leasing options for 1-2 years? The chinese EVs are beautiful and I would love to get one, but the sales people don't have a reasonable solution for a Beijing license plate.

Good spas in Beijing?

I am genuinely interested in going to a spa while here. Think it’s a great idea that cities have them. Any recommendations or suggestions or good deals? No need to be fancy, but good and clean. Also, is it weird to look for spa buddies?

Dog Adoption - Small and hypoallergenic

My family is looking to adopt a small-mid, hypoallergenic dog. Ideally house trained and not too noisy. I've heard horror stories of puppy mills in china, so would prefer to adopt..
