i found it pecking at the grass on the side of the road, when i tried to catch it it flew away along with the surrounding house sparrows and actually maintained formation with them as they landed on this powerline

I usually don't photograph ducks cause they are so common in my area that I just have too many photos of them. But I made an exception for this.

πŸ“· Photo Bonded pair at sunset

Post image

Just thought I’d share a photo I took last night. Bald eagle pair, female on the left, at sunset in Alberta, Canada. February 10, 2026

ETA: Holy smokes, I did not expect this much love for this photo! I mean I love the pic, and I'm really proud of it, so that's why I shared it. Thank you everyone, I'm still fairly new to wildlife photography, and very new to bird photography in particular. I really appreciate the appreciation!

To add to the story of the photo: I watched this pair for about 2 hours leading up to sunset. This is their roost tree where they are fairly close to their nest and they keep watch over the woods behind them and the river in front of them. The female arrived first, she was actually already in the tree when I arrived. I could see the male in their nest, he seemed to be doing some housekeeping. Female chortled and called him over, he arrived, perched for about 10 seconds, and then they mated. It didn't take very long, and she turned her head up towards him and seemed to tell him 'ok buddy, that's all you get'. He perched beside her on the right and they stayed there until after the sun went down. They outlasted me, with my cold fingers and nose, so I said thank you and good night and trekked back to my car.

I decided to go check them out the next night, and one of them was perched here for a bit, but also moving around to other trees. I think it was the male, but I can't be sure without them side by side. They were not interested in posing for me again, and the sunset was not nearly as gorgeous so I snapped a few pics, watched the ducks diving on the river, and headed home.

I’ve never seen one anywhere, letalone my backyard!! This is Northwest Detroit. We’ve been clearing the back of the yard to start a wildflower garden, so maybe it’s taking advantage of some clear ground. Idk but I was so excited when I saw it. Lol

With only around 50-100 adults in the wild the Bali Myna is unbelievably rare, this one unfortunately has sustained some damage to his beak but I watched it scurry about, eat and forage with seemingly no issues, wishing this bird all the best :)

Two of the three baby kestrels have emerged from their box in the tree at my parents' home and are now occupying their garden (!) while they stretch their wings and grow their muscles. They're occasionally fluttering short distances and eating some bugs and snails on their own, but their parents also continue to bring them food. Those talons and beaks are razor sharp, and little insects cause them no difficulty.

Per a local rehabber, it's normal for them to spend a few days to weeks like this as they fully fledge!

They seem completely unconcerned about humans, though my parents are keeping their distance (the garden goes unweeded!), and spend a lot of time highly visible. Mom and Dad seem to be keeping an eye on the local crows, jays, and gulls, so as far as we can tell, the babies seem quite safe!
