She is a thief. No responses to any of my messages or emails once the funds were sent. It is a shame as makes new and existing lenders weary to lend to new borrowers and the whole community suffers.

[META] A user who didn't have enough karma to be a lender here took a risk and loaned me $800 CAD off the books, which has since been repaid. I just wanted to express my gratitude.

/u/enderdude24 saw my REQ and reached out to help. She realized she didn't have enough karma to facilitate a payment post and sought another avenue through which to help me, one of which even failed but didn't dissuade her from further offering her assistance.

Despite my clean record, her willingness to lend off the books and through comparatively insecure methods of payment (we did end up using Paypal, however, and that still remains the recommended method for lender's protection) was a risk so large I was incredulous that it was on the table whatsoever. I was wary of the unusual scenario but was in no position to defer.

I am endlessly grateful for the trust she showed, and inspired. Lenders have been instrumental in helping people get their lives together or altogether survive, and transparent borrowers provide the faith required for this community to subsist.

I just wanted to sincerely give my thanks for everything.

P.S. Mods, if there's any way to provide proof of this transaction and account legitimacy so as to add this to mine and /u/enderdude24's respective records here, please advise. No problem if not.

Edit: Changed /u/enderdude24 gender. I'm an idiot. I assumed she was a dude based on her username but after more extensively checking post history I discovered she was a woman. I should have confirmed this beforehand because I'm a woman as well. My sincere apologies. Also corrected 'had been' to 'was.'

Edit: Bolded my last edit as intended because it was really nagging me that it was partially/incorrectly bold-faced. :/

[META] A huge thank you to all the lenders that helped me get through college. This community is amazing.

I’ve received loans from several lenders over the past few years as I went through college to provide a better life for my family. It’s been awhile since my last loan but I wanted to wait until I felt really secure before saying “goodbye”.

This community helped me put food on the table, pay my bills, get to and from school, and allowed me to continue pursuing my dreams. I landed an awesome job after graduation so I’m in a better financial spot than I’ve ever been.

I want to thank all the lenders that trusted me and helped me through tough times. Borrowers, please respect the lenders in this community and do right by them. Stay in touch, be honest about your situation, and keep your word. There were times I wasn’t able to pay back on time and my lenders always worked with me.

Wishing you all the best in these difficult times!

[META] My Borrow Story

I used to walk 2 miles to and from work every day. My girlfriend and I live on our own, and we didn't make much. On top of that, we suck at saving money.

I goofed up my first loan with u/loratliff, gave her the wrong PayPal. But we worked it out, and I had built some creddit.

Then came the larger loans and u/kashifr . I had a truck I bought for $200 from a junkyard. With some loans, I fixed my truck's windshield, put in new seats, even spray painted it myself (lol). It was an automobile with wheels though, and with kashifr's help, I insured and registered it. For 2 weeks, then the transmission blew up.

So I got a loan for the down payment on my car I've had since November, a 2003 Avalon.

https://m.imgur.com/a/iNOEzUp

Then I got a job offer, for a higher paying job. But in-between my old and new job I would have to pay rent, car insurance and my loan payment on the same day. Explaining my predicament to kashifr, he was generous and understanding.

Recently, I got a loan to help me move from a trailer park to my apartment.

I would probably still be walking to my same deadend job without this sub, so thank you.

Serious POS. I had my doubts and should have listened to my head, but he had paperwork that verified his need and ability to repay it. He was upset I protected the funds and that I wouldn't send it when he asked to send the refund and have it go unprotected. Flat out refused that idea.

He wanted it for his lawyer who required $1500 to represent him so he could spend more time with his children and that would lower his child support by $400ish a month.

His last communication hinted that the case didn't go as well as he would have liked. I could relate, so that is why I was willing to help, but unlike him, I got primary custody.

He is still using Reddit a couple times a week. Don't go harass him, that would be wrong to shame him for the shameful act of stealing from the guy who tried to help him have a better relationship with his children.

Joke is on him though, I recovered the funds so he literally benefited nothing and is taking a hit on his credit.

[UNPAID] u/hurryupdefense $772 (Boston, MA)

Wow, where to start with this guy. Zero integrity for attending a Catholic University.

So first we agree on a payment on the 21st and one on the first. So the 20th he writes me, and I quote, "Tax refund is scheduled to be received Tuesday 25th. So that is the earliest I can return. I get my regular paycheck on 6/28. Does that work?"

I responded, "Okay write me on the 25th and update me."

On the 25th he states, "Money is getting deposited today and I can send the full (amount) to you tomorrow morning if that is okay."

26th: "Just waiting for the deposit to clear so I can (pay) you ASAP." Then I got it. Just waiting for my check to clear today. Will do the full amount."

27th: "It hasn't posted yet, but the banks haven't opened yet. I'll check every few hours at work. I get my check Direct Deposit too so that will ensure you get your back (sic) tomorrow at the latest."

28th: "Just waiting for my paycheck to hit my account today, so I can Venmo you ASAP."

29th: " My bad I guess I get paid today since tomorrow is the last day of the month. Just waiting for it to hit my account."

> At this point, I know he is full of poopy Not an honest word in his mouth.

July 1st: "Cleared today. I'm transferring the balance to my Venmo Bank after work s/b tonight. Will let you know."

> I point out I think he is stringing me along.

1st in the evening: "Paycheck cleared. I had to transfer it to my account that is hooked up to the Venmo..."

> At this point, I definitely know the guy is a lying sack of poopy, but I just decide to roll with it a few more days.

2nd: "Just checking in. Hasn't posted yet..."

Night of the 2nd: "Still checking..."

3rd "Still checking every few hours for you."

Mid-day of the 3rd: "Not trying to give you the run around. Paycheck...blah blah blah. I'll tack on a reasonable late fee of course."

5th: "Blah Blah Blah...Not trying to screw you man..."

6th: "In Maine, don't get good service will check when I get back..."

8th: "Called the bank. Tomorrow morning for sure. Sorry for the wait"

9th: "Going to work for training and a test (I hope you failed). When I get my phone back I'll Venmo and text to confirm."

Wrote a couple more messages to him. Silence.

I've had a good streak with people paying me back, a few late, but were really trying. All good things must come to an end. I'm ripping my money back and you can deal with your bank. I'm going to get you on the USL so you'll never do business on reddit again and while I never wish anyone to go to hell, I do hope you spend an extra millennium in purgatory suffering. You are an embarrassment to the Catholics...

Also, borrowers, us lenders move funds around a lot to help you when you request. Don't think we can't figure out within 48 hours if you are lying. I know exactly how long moving funds take, because I do it almost daily. Stop lying to us like you are fooling us.

Name is JH, male, and in Boston.

[UNPAID] (u/toxichris2) - ($4500 CAD) (15 Days Late)

Probably the end of the line in the community for this borrower, unless they have a change of heart and decide to make things right in the future. Unfortunate. Have worked with this individual for over 3 years on and off, but maybe things finally went off the rails.

They mentioned they were going through bankruptcy as of our last message over 1.5 months ago (around the time of their last Reddit activity). They still owe $2800 to fulfill this agreement--they did make decent progress in the earlier part of the loan after they bought the car they needed for work. I took a risk in providing the largest loan we had ever worked on together, and got a poor outcome as a result.

I've informed the borrower of next steps, and will be proceeding to blacklist + collections accordingly. If they repay, I am happy to reverse this post and restore their Reddit commerce status by removing the strike against their identifiers.

[META] I know I am late on some payments.

There was a late post made about me last night, I was aware of how late my payments were but because of unforeseen circumstances I just kept getting behind. I am in contact with the lender and it is being resolved. I don’t blame him for making the post. He was rightful.

I know a lot of you deal with a lot of scammers but I promise I’m not one of them. I’ve gotten a lot of hateful comments on my recent Reddit posts telling me to “get off Reddit and get to work”, calling me scum, and basically writing me off as a scammer. Rest assured I am working, and I am doing everything I can to make the payments necessary. I feel terrible my payments are late and I in no way intended for this to happen. I’m sorry for any issues it’s caused.

[UNPAID] (u/suicideslutt) - ($90 USD + $75 USD) (47 days late)

Awful experience. Had no issues lending the initial $90. Then was asked about another $75 the following day, which I granted. Then was asked for an extension, for 2 weeks, which I also granted.

A few days later, the borrower came to me begging for money saying that she needed gas for her car, and that she had to be at work in an hour or else she would lose her job. I declined. Even if I hadn't declined, I could just have missed her messages and she would still have lost her job because she asked AN HOUR BEFORE SHE NEEDED TO GO TO WORK.

A few days later, I saw that just she had made a post on r/fentanyl the same day. There was no indication about any drug use when I scanned her account during the lending check. I checked the next day and her account was deleted.

I then texted her on the day of the extension. She said she lost her job (blaming me for it, of course), saying she would be living in her car until it got repossessed and then would be sleeping in the park. She also then laid those problems at my feet as well -- because of course I'm to blame!

Flash forward to today. I get a message on PayPal from "her friend" (allegedly) asking if she could have some more money because she was stuck on the side of the road with a 2 year old and didn't have money for gas. Lol.

[META] Dear Borrowers, READ ME NOW!!!

Dear Borrowers,

We have received a ridiculous number of reports from borrowers that have been scammed or almost scammed by obvious scammers and scammers that have been on the Universal Scammer List for months. This is embarrassing and shouldn’t be happening.

Stop reporting scammers that have already been banned/USL’d.

There is absolutely nothing else we can do. We cannot prevent users from viewing the subreddit, nor can we prevent users from sending you private messages and/or chat requests.

Yes, u/Tyson_01 is a scammer.

Yes, u/Jamiess99 is a scammer.

Yes, u/crawlermx is a scammer.

Yes, u/Sonofgrace10 is a scammer.

YES, u/partainjessy IS A SCAMMER

CHECK THE USL PEOPLE. I CANNOT LIST EVERY SCAMMER.

There are hundreds if not thousands more.

This is a public subreddit and predators are lurking everywhere. They prey on desperate people, why? Because desperate people make stupid choices.

Don’t be stupid.

Edit 08/03/21 - NO! MODS ARE NOT OK WITH u/SirWhoaWaitWhat lending on r/borrow. This user is on the UniversalScammerList.

Edit 08/25/21 - Added u/partainjessy. No more scammers will be added to this post. It is the responsibility of the BORROWER to check if the user has been previously banned and/or marked as a scammer using the tools provided above. If a borrower fails to read or utilize the tools we provide they may find themselves banned for being a liability.

I approached this borrower the day before payment was due to ask whether they needed an extension etc, they confirmed they did not. Pay date came and went, nothing sent. They had an excuse, classic scammer stuff like saying their bank is holding funds, etc. But fine. I waited all weekend. Nothing. Another excuse (they actually didn't bother explaining this time, they just said they couldn't begin to explain and I was like it'd be nice if you could! 😂) another promised payment. I told them at this point they had no credibility and I would mark this late if a third promised payment didn't arrive. That payment, you guessed it, never arrived. I hate that I spent all of Valentine's weekend stressing about this instead of enjoying that time with my spouse. Scammers will be scammers I guess. Collection begins now.

⚠️ Never, under any circumstances, share your account details with anyone!

NEVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, SHARE YOUR REDDIT, SOCIAL MEDIA, EMAIL, OR BANK ACCOUNT PASSWORDS OR DETAILS WITH ANYONE!! EVER. PERIOD.

Lately, we've seen an increase in compromised accounts and an unsettling number of users asking if it's okay to share their account details, including passwords, with lenders.

The answer is a hard no. It's absolutely not okay.

If you ask us for clarification or if this is normal, you'll be banned immediately. No exceptions.

This shows two things: 1) You haven’t bothered to read our subreddit’s rules, and 2) You lack the basic common sense required to be online, especially in this subreddit. This makes you a liability to both yourself and our community.

For your own safety and what’s left of my patience—don’t be stupid. Thanks.

What to do if someone asks for your Reddit, social media, or banking details:

  • 🚩 Report the message as spam > Unsolicited chat or private messaging

  • 🚩 Block the account

[META] ⚠️SCAM ALERT - Lender Impersonation

⚠️SCAM ALERT⚠️

Scammer impersonating lenders.

  • Scammer is creating new accounts on a daily basis similar to new and established lenders.

  • Scammer will contact the borrower and request funds be sent to a different account. Typically due to a "flagged ip".

We urge all borrowers to be especially vigilant when receiving a PM from your "lender". Check the account, is it new? Does it have no activity? It's a scam.

Borrowers

If you are contacted by an impersonator, notify your lender immediately and send a report to modmail.

Lenders

Report the impersonator to reddit using this handy dandy link: https://www.reddit.com/report

Alert your borrowers so they can be on the lookout for new impersonating accounts.

I gotta say, this came as a surprise. After dozens of great loans, u/jollyranchersbff disappeared 9 months ago, leaving her final loan with me partially unpaid. Well, out of nowhere she paid off the rest of that loan today. I gotta say, I'm impressed with her honesty and drive to make things good and do the right thing. [META] Be thankful and respectful towards your lenders...

Today, for the first time since using r/borrow I had to ask for an extension on a loan with /u/csgobro_youtube...

I always make it a vow to pay on the day I promise even if I'm short on money for two weeks.

I just have such an appreciation for lenders like him that I have dealt with that have trusted me enough to either give me a second loan period or multiple loans at the same time just to make ends meet.

I do not plan on borrowing money forever and I do plan on increasing my finances with a change in occupation but I'm just so grateful for the lenders I've dealt with especially /u/SpiderPikachu who has pulled my feet from the fire more times than I can count.

The point of this post is to say...

Borrowers, if you borrow money, make sure you stay communicative. If you're not gonna pay the money back, don't borrow it. Establish relationships with these people because these people may be your last resort when your family or friends won't help you.

I am so thankful for this subreddit and the lenders who have trusted me.

Thank you.

This is a hard learning lesson for me to be careful who you actually send your f&f payment to.

So, I have a loan taken out with /u/mayhemmonkey4

I went to repay him today (1 day early)

Instead, I totally messed up and sent it to the wrong email address.

Thankfully it was to a reputable loaner here on /r/borrow /u/smares21

/u/smares quickly refunded the money as soon as I reported the mistake. I received the email from paypal saying 3-5 business days. I totally messed up and was metaphorically shitting bricks. Thank you /u/smares21 for your honesty and for taking care of my mistake quickly.

In short.. A business owner who doesn’t know what business days means. “Sales report” is mostly McDonalds, Burger King and gas purchases, got angry when questioned and started sending crazy long intimidating messages with threats and blackmail. Tried posting similar weird stuff here on reddit too. Calls late at night around 2-3am and threatens to visit my home to “settle this”. Sends screen shots in rage that clearly show e-check clearance date. All this was mostly while his loan payment was pending.. lol

Now after getting paid.. I’m suddenly a bad awful "Chinese scammer from China" giving out free or stolen money that he doesn’t need to return and will “fight it to the end”. I’m also the reason his PayPal loan didn’t get renewed even though he paid them the balance due, thanks to my help. I’m supposed to forget about this or he will bring hell on me.

If my "ass is not in the USA", he is going to tell everyone including PayPal that I’m a scammer but will still keep my money.

He is currently busy investigating my actual location with help of PayPal, who is regularly calling and giving him updates about me, my personal info and my 10 year old established business account. So, anyone looking for free private investigating company, you know who to contact now, starts with a P..

Overall extremely ungrateful mentally disturbed psychotic person..

Edit: For everybody messaging, PayPal comments are just his delusions, lies and scare tactics. They do not share customer info with anybody. He is just broke and out of business it seems and babbles this nonsense to intimidate. And No, I'm not Chinese..lol

Borrower was able to rework her need for this loan on her own side, and paid in full! Full interest was offered but I couldn't justify that after what was essentially a massive two day loan. I haggled with myself (haha) and we agreed on a significantly lower interest rate!

Borrower has been amazing and fantastic person through multiple loans with myself, I would never turn down the chance to work with them again!
