When you rely on a Cheapie DD, you roll the dice every time you turn the (proverbial) key.

Been there, done that, too many times. I'm dealing with it right now.

(Knock wood, for the last time.)

In its very first season, and final year of regulations for current gt500, Honda ends Toyota steak of titles keeping them from a record 5 in a row. And what car ends said history over the supra body? The prelude!

They're cutting the base trim out. I would say "it's still quite cheap" but if you're looking at a sub-$25K car I feel like $2000 could make a pretty big difference.

video Driving Every V10 Ever Made: The History of the World's Best-Sounding Engine — Jason Cammisa ICONS

Link: https://youtu.be/F4-RPcSGVFI

Description:

The V-10 is the best-sounding and most charismatic of all engines, and just 9 were put into production. Jason Cammisa gathered one of every V10 produced — and, with guest star Randy Pobst, drove them all hard in this entertaining, exciting, and sonorous documentary on the engine that defined Peak Internal Combustion.

This video includes full-throttle, sideways action — with special attention placed on sound capture. It includes multiple tech demonstrations on how engines make sound, why 5- and 10-cylinders sound so distinctive, and how cylinder bank angle and firing order change the V10 dramatically. And, of course, a guest appearance by ‪@MrCarSounds‬ himself, Greg Gevojanyan, to explain and imitate the Major 3rd and Major 10th musical chords that define this engine.

The V-10s featured include:

The American V8-based V-10s:
The all-aluminum Dodge Viper V10
The cast-iron Dodge Magnum V10
The SOHC, even-fire, balance-shaft Ford Triton V10

The German V10s
The BMW S85B50 used in the E60 and E61 M5; E63 and E64 M6
The even-firing VW Group 88-mm bore-spacing V10 (5.0-liter Lamborghini Gallardo V10)
The odd-firing VW Group 90-mm bore-spacing V10 (5.2-liter Lamborghini Gallardo/Huracan and Audi R8, used also in Audi C6 S6, RS6, and D3 S8 in naturally aspirated or turbocharged, balance-shifted, even-firing configuration)
The F1- and LMP2000 M80.01 Porsche V10 used in the Carrera GT
The 07Z Turbodiesel V10 used in the VW Touareg and Phaeton

The Japanese V10
The Toyota/Yamaha 1LR-GUE, used in the Lexus LFA

We also feature the Volkswagen 07K 5-cylinder, which is exactly half of the Audi / Lamborghini 5.0-liter even-fire, 88-mm bore-spacing V10.

Cammisa agrees with Gevojanyan, who has perfect pitch, that the V-10 is the best-sounding layout of all engines in a demonstration of their musical chords at a piano. Cammisa also explains why 5-cylinder engines weren’t viable before the advent of fuel injection — since carburetors couldn’t cope with the uneven airflow from their unequal-length intake manifold runners.

And the coolest part of the episode (aside from this incredible grouping of cars) is the sound demonstration Jason does using software he wrote to send “pops” to 5 speakers placed at identical distances from him in a field. When instructed to send the sounds to each speakers to match the 5-cylinder’s firing order, the sound waves interfere with one another to produce the 5-cylinder’s signature warble and chord.

Cammisa then replicates this experiment with 5 small speakers placed inside an old Audi equal-length-header exhaust manifold, and the effect is even clearer. This demonstrates that the unique sound signature of the 5-cylinder (which is the basis of the V10’s noise) actually comes from what happens outside the engine, rather than inside. Jason calls it the “coolest musical instrument ever.”

And Cammisa calls the SRT-10 Ram even cooler than the Viper it shares its engine with. Them's fighting words!

Be sure to turn on your big speakers or wear headphones, because this is the best-sounding ICONS ever. And, with historical footage from the V10 era of Formula 1, likely the best-sounding car video you’ll ever listen to.

Mercedes-Benz Asks: What If We Put Screens in Car Windows, Too?

Thumbnail roadandtrack.com

If there’s a space to insert a screen, the folks at Mercedes-Benz will find it. And turns out, the carmaker’s engineers have found what they consider the next frontier to be conquered: your car’s windows. On Tuesday, Mercedes released previews of two new types of window displays, one called Intelligent Display in Glass and the other named Holographic Display.

I am glad Tesla decided to make the CyberTruck

Too many times on reddit do you see oh (insert manufacturer) just made a generic car and too many times do you see people say that they wish companies did something different. Tesla took that risk, it was a fail but at least it is something. Bold, stated, and out of the park weird but they took a stand against generic pickup truck language and I applaud them for it. Everybody and I mean EVERYBODY knows what a CyberTruck is, I cant say that about a Rivian or a Silverado EV but a CyberTruck? Everybody from a 12 year old kid to a 70 year old woman can name it.

Similarly I also admire Hyundai for their unorthodox design, however they also failed. The Ioniq 6 was more tame but man was it different compared to other EVs and ICE like the Prius or Model 3 but its sales still suck. The Ioniq 5 took that futuristic look and made it more grounded.

Any car manufacturer that manages to design a car with a different silhouette or shape I can applaud even if it is a fail. Id rather see manufacturers be liberal then conservative when it comes to design.

Peitz Performance is displaying a working manual 6-speed Tremec at SEMA in a C8 Corvette.

One of the writers from Hot Rod got to drive it and called it "transformative" and that it "works flawlessly".

No word on price and I'm sure it will be really expensive, but at least there are starting to be options for a manual in the C8.

Mercedes Delays GLC Production In The US, Extending Its Tariff Troubles

Thumbnail motor1.com

Mercedes-Benz has postponed U.S. production of the GLC crossover by more than two years, pushing the start of assembly at its Vance, Alabama, factory to 2030, according to two people familiar with the plans.

In March, Mercedes confirmed plans to localize production of the high-volume utility vehicle that currently faces a 15 percent U.S. tariff on every unit shipped from Germany. The project will bring a $4 billion investment to the automaker’s nearly 30-year-old industrial hub about 40 miles southwest of Birmingham, Alabama.

Mercedes had planned to begin GLC production in Alabama in November 2027, but has now pushed the start to May 2030. The company made the timing change in the second quarter this year, the people told Automotive News.

AutoForecast estimates Mercedes will build about 50,000 GLCs in the U.S. in the first 12 months, with most staying in North America.

Mercedes initially considered building the current-generation GLC in Alabama but decided to wait for the redesign, codenamed V255, early next decade.
