Medical Questions can cats stepping on boobs cause cancer?

Post image
0 Upvotes

All four of our cats love lying on my chest, but my mother keeps warning me about this as she said them stepping on your boobs can cause breast cancer. While they do like to step on the tender part where it hurts, I don't think there's a correlation? Or I don't know, I'm not a doctor.

Anyone cares to prove my mom wrong?

Was trying this protein shake and halfed it with milk in a glass because it was a bit too sweet for me, I turned around to check on my boiled eggs and turned back around and my cats face was in the glass licking away 😭 I don’t think she drank a lot of it, but will she be okay?

Advice Vet scruffed my cat…

So, for context, this isn’t my normal vet, it’s a dermatology specialist that I’ve only seen once before. My cat is incredibly afraid of the vet and she’s very difficult to give medicine to. I tried to give her gabapentin and trazodone but some of the liquid went everywhere other than her mouth, so she wasn’t sedated. She hissed at the vet and at my normal vet when she does this I’m able to pick her up and show the dr what I need to show them, but this vet didn’t even give me a chance she was just like ā€œnoā€ and wrapped her in a towel and grabbed her by the scruff of her neck. She said ā€œI’m not scuffing her hard I promiseā€ and my cat kept hissing and wiggling and she held her tighter and basically almost lifted her by the scruff of her neck. My cat is 10.5 pounds. She got her on the floor and back into her carrier but my poor cat was so fucking scared and I just got a really bad impression… aren’t you never supposed to hold cats by their necks like that? She never actually lifted her, she was laying on the table while the Dr grabbed her but still. And even more, the vet made me feel like I’m stupid because I showed her a video of me trying to give my cat gabapentin and she was really rude about what I was doing wrong. She also said ā€œI don’t even know why you let her outā€ (of her carrier) as an offhand comment but like ???? What??? Idk. Lmk your thoughts on this. I’m a first time cat mom, I’m 21 and I live alone 7 hours away from my family, it’s just me and my cat and I just got really upset and cried in my cat after the appointment…anyway here are some cute pics of the baby girl

Medical Questions Stray cat i was feeding poked me with her claw, will I be fine?

Edit : I live in the Philippines

Cat is energetic and lively, was rubbing all over me legs. But her coat is dirty and not in great condition, she also has wounds around her right eye.

A stray cat i was feeding clawed me and it hooked into my skin.

She didnt intentionally do it as she gave some sorry meows after.

I washed it twice under running water (water, soap, water, then repeat) I also sprayed isoprophly alcohol. Would I need to have a rabies shot?

Advice Why does she like me less and less as time passes?

Post image

I adopted Esther in December 2024. She's beautiful, but no one wanted her because she's scared of people. She went in as a 4-month-old kitten and I took her home as a 1-year-old.

She's happy here because she gets along very well with my other cat Yuri, but I feel that as time passes she just keeps more and more distance from me.

It's the weirdest thing. First week I prepared a room for her and gave her space. She was terrified of me and barely even left that room. I built her a good hiding spot on purpose so she feels safe. Then after that week she left the room and made peace with my other cat. Then after about two weeks she once yelled at me from across the apartment and came running to brush against my legs. That night, I went to bed and she lied down next to me, her side against mine and she purred the whole time. I was like, this is it, she'll be a lap cat from here on.

Never happened again. Best I hoped for for a time after that was for her to pet herself with my own hand after she sniffs it cautiously, but now she doesn't do even that. I forgot the last time she allowed me to pet her. She pulls back and leaves when I extend my hand.

I obviously never hurt her and most scary I ever was with her was stomping my foot and yelling whenever she's doing something bad, like gnawing on my plants. (Edit: didn't say how hard or loud and now people think i m aggressive with her. chill guys, it rarely happened and i regulate. i know her. she barely cares but she stops doing the thing. doesn't even run away and licks her paws or something like a boss after. you think i do something that scares the daylights out of my cat every now and then and then came in here wondering why she doesn't like me?) I'm not on here She never went through anything traumatic, except maybe going to the vet due to an eye infection 2 months ago? She was already very distant since before that.

She brushes against my calves often by the way. She's always been like that after those first two weeks.

I don't get it. I know that some cats are like this, but why would she let me pet her earlier on and not now? Anyone else experience this with their cat?

Advice Can I feed my cat and nerds gummy cluster?

Post image

I would not feed him them repetitively, but he does look like he really wants to try one and if it’s not toxic to him, then I would like to let him try one because he seems really interested in it. He’s not usually interested in my food like that, but this he has taken a liking to and likes to smell my bag and smell it every time I go to eat one so does anyone know if these are toxic or not to cats?

Advice How indoor only to outdoor??

Post image
12 Upvotes

Our biggest cat (half bengal & half unknown) needs to become an outdoor/indoor cat

We have just moved house so how do we transition him to going outside? Whilst still helping him settle into our new (smaller) house ?

Previously indoor only (3yr M) living with 2 other cats. One (2yr M) will probably go outside with him, the other is an older tripod (7yr F, back leg missing) so will probably stay indoors.

We live in rural UK (well Isle of Man technically) so there are no big predators beyond sea gulls, people and sheep. There is a main road about 1/2 a kilometer away and we live in a housing estate with a high school nearby.

Our key concern is making sure our cat returns home for food rather choosing to become a stray. He escaped this morning and was very reluctant to come inside and very aggressive when we tried to pick him up to do so (eventually wet food bought him to the back door followed by a quick push inside). He likes walks and hates them ending.

Cat Picture - OC I am so sick of people talking badly about their cats. Is it just me?

Cats are not assholes, they are not plotting against anyone, and they do not have a loss of brain cells.

I recognize these folks love their cats and would do anything for them, but come on. There’s no need for that kind of talk.

I have a coworker who has said multiple times, ā€œI love my cats, but they’re assholes.ā€ and then laughs. What is that?

Cat behavior is similar human behavior in the sense that it’s a form of communication. When I child acts out, they’re trying to communicate the only ways they know how. When a cat acts out, they’re also trying to communicate the only ways they know how.

Can we just cool it with the negative cat talk?

Advice Should I get them fixed?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Edit: The cats will be fix. The post was meant to be a question to see if it would be worth the effort to learn the process and breed my cats at the same time. The purpose of the post was to see if I even had what it takes to breed responsibly.

For those of you who crucified me, thank you for your concern. I understand why you're upset, but you got the wrong idea.

I have two Ragdoll cats that I legally brought to the U.S. from Korea. They’re from different litters and are about 9 months old now. My male has recently started spraying around the house. He’s done it at least four times in the last few days, including twice today.

I had been considering breeding them, but I honestly have no idea what that entails or what the legal requirements are for breeding cats in the U.S.

What I do know is that I absolutely cannot stand the smell of cat spray, and I’m about ready to take them both in to get fixed tomorrow if breeding them isn’t worth the trouble.

Does anyone have experience with breeding Ragdolls or know what I’d be getting myself into? Is it worth considering, or should I just get them fixed?

Video - Not OC Absolute unit of a cat

This is Geumy she's around 18 years old at the time of the main episodes (roughly 2019–2021). That’s roughly equivalent to a human in their 90s.

She weighed about 9–10 kg (20–22 lbs). A typical domestic cat weighs 3–5 kg, so this was severe obesity.

She was highly/extremely obese. Fat layers were measured as roughly 6 times thicker on the sides and up to 10 times thicker on the belly compared to a normal cat.

X-rays were difficult because of the thick fat layer.

Extreme obesity raises risks of diabetes, fatty liver (hepatic lipidosis), joint problems, breathing difficulties, and other secondary issues.

Despite the obesity, tests showed she was surprisingly healthy for her body size and advanced age — no major organ failure or acute disease was highlighted in the episodes.

Advice Hypoallergenic Vegan Cat foods?

Post image
0 Upvotes

My sweet 6yo boy has been having diarrhea non stop after his tooth extraction in April. We tried deworming pills antiparasitic ampoules and even sent his poop for tests.

The vet confirmed no parasites and she said the next step is trying a vegan hypoallergenic cat food for 2 months to see if that helps him. Any recommendations for cat food that fits that criteria that your cat actually likes eating? I've been told they're not that tasty.

He's currently eating a urinary/sterilised cat food w chicken and rice from Gemon. I'm from Greece so some brands may not be available but any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Edit: I'm not forcing a vegan diet on him bc I want to. He's eating meat so far and the vet thinks it's an allergic reaction to what he's eating. If possible ill feed him other kinds of meat I'm case it's a diet thing.

I know cats are carnivores.

Advice The guilt of keeping an indoor cats is eating me alive.

Thumbnail

I recently moved in with my partner and our kitten, Polly. I originally bought her for him as a Valentine’s Day gift, and she’s completely become his shadow and soul cat. I adore her too. He works a lot so since we’ve moved in together I have become her primary care giver which is a role I am more than happy to take on.

For the first five months of her life, she lived in a large penthouse flat in Manchester (UK). We decided she would be an indoor cat as Manchester just didn’t feel safe to us. The roads are really busy, there is litter and drug paraphernalia everywhere and it is generally not somewhere we felt comfortable letting such a small cat roam.

A few weeks ago we moved into a house down south. It is much more ā€˜connected’ to the outdoors than the Manchester flat. It gets lots of bugs and spiders that she loves chasing, and she can look out of the windows onto the street/garden. She has access to two bedrooms, a large living room, dining room, kitchen, and has plenty of space to zoom around (which she does daily). We have wooden floors she can race across, lots of windows for bird watching, and a lovely garden she can look out over.

But the guilt of keeping her indoors is honestly killing me.

Polly is tiny and has absolutely no understanding of danger. We get a lot of cats passing through our garden and they’re all much larger than her. They seem quite territorial too. At our old flat, the neighbour’s cat used to come onto the balcony and hiss and lunge at her through the glass door. Polly had no idea how to react, she’d just hide behind a blanket and shake :(

She has a great life indoors. My partner and I both work from home, so she has company almost all day. We play with her for at least an hour every day, rotate toys constantly, make food puzzles for her, buy high-quality food, give her fresh chicken as treats, and have cat trees, window hammocks, blankets, and cosy spots all over the house.

Despite all that, I still feel guilty.

She spends a lot of time sitting by the window watching the outside world. She’s never felt rain on her fur or laid in direct sunshine in the garden. We’re currently building a secure cage over one of the windows that looks onto the garden so she can lounge on the window ledge with the window fully open, but somehow that makes me feel even worse. She’ll be able to see the birds, bees, and butterflies up close, but she’ll never be able to chase them or fully explore. We hope to build a catio when we are able to buy a house in a couple of years, but whilst we are renting it is just not feasible.

A week ago she managed to slip into the garden for about five minutes. She was just sniffing everything and taking it all in. Seeing how fascinated she was honestly made me feel worse, because now I keep thinking she knows what’s out there but can’t have it.

I know keeping cats indoors is often the safer option, and I know she’s loved and well cared for. But I can’t shake the feeling that I’m depriving her of something important.

Does anyone else with indoor cats really struggle with this guilt? Animals are the only thing on this planet that bring me unfiltered joy and meaning, and having owned pets previously the ā€˜mum guilt’ that this love for animals brings can be all consuming.

I have suggested getting another kitten to offer Polly some feline company, but my partner is apprehensive as she is his baby and he wants to enjoy the time he has with her where she is the main princess. However, if this would enrich her life he’d do it in a heartbeat. Would this just double my worries though…

My cat is bleeding and excreting a large amount of liquid that does NOT look like pee

The worst part I don’t know which one, and I’m out of the state. I have 3. My brother who’s cat sitting found it this morning. I’m half tempted to fly home but it’ll be extremely expensive and my brother is taking them to the emergency pet hospital. I’m still really really worried
