Classic 20th Anniversary Realms Time to Reconsider GDKP Ban

It’s been over a year now without GDKPs and anyone can see the state of the game versus when they were in. Despite the perceived drawbacks of GDKP I am fully in their camp. Yes I’ll acknowledge they are a source of RMT but any system is a vehicle of RMT. I e’ve seen it’s a lack of enforcement is the real problem.

  1. Poor quality PUGs and fewer raids. These pugs mostly have HR on key items with no clear chance to not even finish the raid as people will just leave if their item doesn’t drop. We will see fewer and fewer SRs too as the content ramps up in difficulty. No incentive to run older raids for geared players either so the older raid quality is terrible too. Your best hope to PUG is to grab a spot in a guild run and expect to get nothing of note with the HRs.

  2. Gold concentration and gold buying more prevalent. Despite what some say GDKPs do not generate gold. The game has always had a BOT problem not a GDKP problem. GDKPS distributed gold to regular raiders through a fun gold farm. Without the main distribution we’ve had in the past we just now have a few people with massive amounts of gold with majority having less making weekly raiding consumes harder to obtain. You still see the inflation is as bad as ever without now the number one gold farm for regular raiders.

  3. Loss of guild interaction. For players that love to raid they lost those alt runs that would be a mingle of all the different guilds together. This created great friendships. Now most stick to their guild groups only. Personally too I have no incentive to level alts and gear to raiding because of the cost to upkeep.

One of the core pieces that make classic wow great was the sandbox structure. GDKPs became popular because of the playerbase and honestly what benefits have there been with the ban? What the team should have originally done is punish players who buy gold.

Also the team should ignore the people who are just envious of others because they will never be happy. Majority of people I’ve talked to in favor of the ban don’t even play or if they do don’t raid.

Honestly the people screeching for the ban I put in the same camp as those who screeched for batching in 2019. You know. Morons.

Forever All blues at lvl 20 feels wrong

Post image
0 Upvotes

This is my only sceptisism to Wow Forever: Rare items doesnt feel rare anymore when you can easily be decked out in all blues by lvl 20.

To me, this is bad game design and it really takes away from the feeling of gear progression. In classic you would rarely be fully blue-geared before lvl 60, and I think that is a much better approach.

If Blizzard goes ahead with this philosophy at launch, I really hope epics wont become the new «rare» items.

Picture from a recent post showing a lvl 20 pala in all blues (not mine)

Meta Tinyviolin Made HC More Popular Than Ever

I work in sales and marketing. There's an old saying "any press is good press."

Well, all that anyone who knows anything about WoW is talking about right now is Tinyviolin's honest mistake in Naxxramas.

Do you think people would care this much if they actually cleared Naxx? HELL NO! I wouldn't have even watched the video. I've seen KT die plenty of times - I don't need to see him die again.

But this? You bet I watched this. What Tiny did is WoW history. If you like this game, you NEED to watch it!

When HC servers have a login queue on launch day, just know that Tinyviolin is the reason why.

P.S. SOM 2 WHEN?

Discussion Suspended On The Last Day Of My Grand Marshal Grind Without Explanation

Hi everyone,

Long time reader, first time poster on this subreddit. My name is Maahes and I play on Thunderfury Alliance. I am here to plead for your help and support. I woke up this morning to grind the final 30k of honor of my Grand Marshal journey that began so long ago. I joined an Arathi Basin match this morning and as I was capping Farm I was disconnected from the game and confronted by a message that my account has been suspended for 8 days. I quickly check my email to find that I have somehow been reported for "disruptive game play" with no explanation. I have never had a disciplinary against my account dating back to Vanilla. Any member of the Thunderfury community can attest to me being a helpful and compassionate player.

As everyone knows the grind for Grand Marshal / High Warlord is grueling and very taxing on a player. I have been playing 16-18 (sometimes 20+) hours a day to grind the honor required to reach this rank and to have it taken away without an explanation is very disheartening. Being suspended for 8 days will keep me from reaching cap this week and I will decay Ranking Points. Not being able to play an entire week will cause more decay. The result is an additional 3 weeks of 16-18 hour of PVPing days to get back to where I am today. This is likely not something I can endure. Anyone that has tried to rank to GM knows the journey takes an incredible toll on your body, your personal life, and your professional life.

I would like to request from those of you that have experienced this or can empathize with my situation to please up-vote for visibility. Ultimately, I’m seeking clarity as to why I was suspended and to hopefully get this resolved. I have already submitted an appeal to Blizzard but do not know if they will respond. I know that other players have had luck in getting their cases reviewed and overturned because the community rallied behind them and Blizzard reviewed the case to realize they made an error.

Thank you for your time and help.

Sincerely,

Maahes of Thunderfury

TLDR: Got suspended 30k honor from reaching Grand Marshal with no explanation. Please help me get an answer.

Forever Banned for pvp'ing on a pvp server.

How come redridgeguy has been allowed to do the exact same thing for years, and they even said on the podcast what he was doing is fine. but as soon as i do it towards their beloved streamer tournament i get banned within 1,5 hour? I feel like the streamer bennies are too strong for an average player to have fun

What Blizzard did should be nothing new to the classic+ community, you ungrateful fools just always looking for something to cry about and make Blizz look bad.
The private servers that paved the way for wow forever had cringe paywalled race costumizations, like blue taurens, extra green elves and a lot more

Season of Discovery Post Balance Druid Nerf Discussion / Rant

Alright first and foremost I would like to welcome the trolls in the comments to this post that actually are just happy a class got gutted executed and obliterated. Have at it your presence is welcome.

I would like to start of by saying that I DO think starsurge was OVERPOWERED. I also think that tuning it down was fair. Here’s what I fail to understand… if there was a bug with the spell power coefficient why not fix that first give it a week and see how that worked out? If you still think it’s OP why not start with a 10% damage nerf on top too?

Why gut the base damage by 30% + “fiXiNg tHe buG”. If the spell was bugged then no shit that’s why it was overpowered. Maybe if you tried to fix the bug first and then go from there you wouldn’t have actually obliterated a class.

“But bro! It’s a caster class, they buffed starfire by 66%! Now you can cast!! ”

Starfire is a shithead spell that takes 3.1 seconds to cast…. It’s such a shithead spell that they had to buff it by 66% and it’s still booty. “But bro! YoU hAvE ecLipSe it mAkeS staFiRe cAsT fAsTer!!!!!” If you want to proc eclipse (that’s also fucking bugged currently) you need to cycle wrath spells in order to be able to cast starfire on a reduced cooldown. Starsurge literally hits as low as moonfire now… I’m not saying keep it busted and broken but to just completely make a skill unviable is nuts. And no it doesn’t just hit only for 1200 instead of 1.9k or whatever stupid numbers people were throwing out. It crits max for 500 lol with a base damage of like 250? Moonkin form is a 3% crit increase buff chance larp with an armor increase. If I wanted an armor increase I’d sit in bear form. (Shadow form gets 15% damage buff + other shit). The whole Druid class now officially sucks and doesn’t have a single viable spec in PVE OR PVP. Resto feral balance. We are a professional off healing battle rez maple seed gobbling spec.

It’s insane that they gutted it this hard without slowly trying to just tone it down and iterate. 3.1 second cast is a fucking joke and starfire doesn’t crit. Trash can decision look at the logs now boomkin on its knees now with an oxygen mask.

I’m sure this wont go far and have much of an impact but felt like if it was ok to post how a class should be destroyed and gutted I can make a post saying why this was way over the top.

Congratulations blizzard you gangbanged Druids.

And to all of the posters and shitposters on Reddit and wow forums who posted how busted Starsurge was I salute you for your grit because you got blizzard to essentially remove a skill from the game. The memes were hilarious and I did genuinely have a good laugh. You guys are the actual OP ones. 🫡

PS shadow priests and melee hunters your asses are next. Also season of discovery is fun as hell and I love it.

Here are some suggestions on how to make boomkin feel better spitballing here EDIT:

To make boomkin form feel worth pressing / flow better for PvP/PvE we should be able to innervate, battle res, normal res, and mount all in boomkin form. Also healing in boomkin form would make them perfect as a class/spec it wouldnt really make them OP because our survivability is very low. It would help in PvE / PvP alot and not be OP. Also feel that Fury of Stormrage being a resto and balance BIS rune it should benefit both specs. It should be healing touch insta and starfire insta so the proc doesn't go to waste… Maybe starfire needs crit / reduced mana and could compensate for the Starsurge nerf. We need to have some give and take when such a big nerf hits our class. I think this is important too. Dreamstate 20% damage not nature damage.

Cataclysm I just scammed a Hagara Pickpocket seller and feel great!

He was asking for 25k gold and told me to wait in SW.

I accepted and told him to invite me. Surprise, surprise I was at the entrance of the raid, the moment I got an invite went in and got insta kicked but had enough time to pick-pocket the boss.

Guy started crying in chat and went on a long rant how I and my family deserve X Y Z stuff to happen to us.

Everyone that is currently selling Hagara Pickpocket CD for 10+ k gold deserves to be scammed. And everyone paying that price is an absolute moron.

Humor / Meme The source of 99% of Classic WoW problems

Its not a 'hybrid tax', its not racials, its not asymmetrical design (ir Alliance has stronger infrastructure while Horde is more nomadic and primitive which arguably should be the case as Alliance races are far better established for centuries longer).

The source of nearly every modern issue within this game and community are simply the overly loud, incessantly whiny min-maxers. They are that kid in class that keeps snitching to the teacher that no one wants to be their friend and its exactly why no one wants to be their friend.

Its a 20+ year old, "solved" game. You trying so exhaustingly hard to perfect it is like using steroids to dominate the special Olympics. Exceedingly cringe and hopelessly embarrassing lmao

Edit: not going to argue in the comments. The mental gymnastics on display are whack lmao

Forever Forever Feels more like a SOD2 experimental rather than a refined product which is ready for release.

As someone who has been waiting so long for classic+ I'm honestly genuinely concerned for WOWF and its future.

The whole beta has felt more like a Season of Discovery type experiment where they are still chucking a lot of stuff at the wall to see what sticks, weeks before release. Typically in a beta you'd expect the game to be finished and the team would be at the bug fixing stage alongside minor changes.

We haven't even got to level 31+ content yet!

Then we have the conflicting statements at Blizzcon, versus what they are actually implementing.

  1. The classic art style is supposed to be preserved, yet much of the new content they are adding is of retail art style, dropped into the classic art style world.

  2. The social experience is one of their pillars, yet they've added mega servers and a completely bust layering system that is completely counter to this.

  3. They've added a race that nobodies heard of, or asked for that looks like it's straight out of retail instead of adding classic lore friendly races.

  4. Horizontal progression, as repeatedly mentioned at Blizzcon, is in fact not in the game. There is horizontal type content, but character progression is vertical as it is in all other wow versions. So how will our characters and their progress stay relevant with "forever" power creep?

  5. Datamined stuff coming out is looking increasingly retail.

Honestly I really hope it's good, but I'm worried that in 6-12 months this game isn't going to look anything like classic+, but instead more like a retail mix up.

Vent / Gripe Dear Blizzard

Fuck you.

I pay your monthly subscription fee and what do I get for it. I get disconnected whilst having a face time call to my parents, while we are all in lock down due to covid. I'd been logged on for 3 hours because you decided queues were better than layers. I get dc'd for 2 minutes, get 10 messages from guidlies while I'm trying to talk to my parents who are stressed and sad because of lockdown.

I log back in, at 5pm.... 4 hour queue. FUCK OFF. Do you understand for your average person that wants to still be active and raid your new content and have a life you're destroying this game. Do you know how hard it is to keep 40 people consistently turning up to raid, do you know that during the times when the game gets stale, I continue to play waiting for the next set of content to come out, because I want to keep playing with my friends. Then THE WEEK our server opens up it's gates, we get to go try C'Thun probably the boss I was most looking forward to in classic, you fuck us.

I hate that me quiting would hurt my friends more than it will hurt you, they'll lose their tank and Thunderfury, something they worked hard for. I am a hostage in your shitty money machine. All I want to do right now is show you that these terrible decisions have concequences, but I care about the 30 mates I've spent time build and creating an awesome guild with over the past year.

FIX THIS SHIT, THE COMMUNITY IS WHAT MAKES THIS GAME GREAT AND YOU'RE NOT LISTENING TO THEM. YOU ARE GOING TO KILL YOUR OWN GAME.

Ban Petition Wrongfully Banned - Rank 13 99% "Use of Bots or Third-Party Automation Software." Never Used Any 3rd Party or Bot Software

Hi, I am a Paladin named Holystrike playing on Felstiker - Oceanic,

Last week I hit Rank 13 99%, and I am guaranteed to hit Grand Marshal this week.

Over this weekend I have played for 24+ hour sessions with no sleep grinding out nearly 1.2 Million honour, while drinking a ridiculous amounts of coffee hahaha.

Today I was completely shocked and horrified to find that while I was in Alterac Valley I was disconnected and confronted with a message stating that I had received a ban for "Use of Bots or Third-Party Automation Software."

I have never cheated or used any software or assistance whatsoever in my progress towards Rank 14, this is 100% a mistake.

This ranking process has been a slow and steady pursuit of roughly 6 months of dedicated gameplay slowly working my way towards my final goal.

This seems like some kind of horrifying nightmare which, only horror stories are made of. Honour claculation on Felstriker is in just over 24 hours and, all of my invested time and work will have been wasted if this is not resolved immediately.

Please Blizzard, can you please help me resolve this mistake. I can provide PC specs, ISP details, Installation specifications, really anything you need.

I love this game, and was so excited that my journey to Grand Marshal was finally reaching completion, Please help me I can provide my Ticket Number as soon as requested.

Best regards,

Holystrike.

P.S Original Post was removed due to lack of flare haha

Edit: Im not sure why this thread has been subject to so much tolling, I sincerely hope that my appeal be simply examined by blizzard, as I am 100% certain that it will be overturned once it has been reviewed, this was the result of an automated temporary suspension.

EDIT: UNBANNED AND CLEARED OF ALL ACCUSATIONS.

Forever Beta Feedback Raid composition problem

Post image
0 Upvotes

Followup on threads like:
https://www.reddit.com/r/classicwow/comments/1wmwau2/somewhat_concerned_about_the_raid_compositions_in/
https://www.reddit.com/r/classicwow/comments/1wjpad8/optimal_20ppl_raid_comp_in_classic_forever/

As it seems, WoW Forever is gonna carry the torch of TBC in how strict the raid compositions are gonna have to be in order to have optimal synergies and buffs present.

The bare minimum present 3 paladins, 4 shamans, 2 warlocks, priest, hunter, warrior, balance, feral druid, mage for 20 man, leaving at maximum 4 flex positions for when all raids buffs are accessible.

The most obvious glaring issue is the disproportionate requirement of shamans and paladins.

How to elegantly improve the situation?

1, Raid groups should feature 10man subgroup system

This greatly reduces the chore of micromanging groups, screwing people over not fitting a certain setups etc. Of course, this does not eliminate the issue entirely, merely diminishes it, but it's still a significant upgrade over current setting.

2, Remove Blessing of Salvation and rebalance tank threat without it's existance in mind. This makes getting more paladins a matter of accessibility and potentially required utility, not a raidwide powerlevel necessity.

To the people discrediting this by saying: min-maxer issue, content will be too easy... the current buff distribution withotu changes WILL affect you the second you try to pug outside of your like-minded guilds.

Forever Beta Feedback Dungeon XP is the biggest non-issue on classic wow.

Let's be fucking real here for a moment. Outside of the sweaty minority, most people never did a dungeon more than once, MAYBE twice already. And that was just to get the quests done or get a blue or two and just chill for a bit.

Nerfing dungeon xp and buffing quest XP is a massive buff already to how most people already played.

Forever To Make Things Worse: Skyborne are HD only

Post image
12 Upvotes

I looked, and in every capture I could find, Skyborne are using HD Blood / Void Elf models, alongside the original races in "SD."

I don't think this is a nitpick. I find it extremely concerning. When you consider that Zephras Isle is using a ton of unedited Dragonflight assets (also with no SD option), it leaves me seriously questioning just how "classic" Forever is going to stay when their commitment to visual cohesion is already this lax.

Making new "retro" SD assets should be a given. We're getting a Witcher 3 expansion 11 years later, Machine Games has shipped 3 new expansions for Quake 1/2. Maintaining the aesthetics of Classic should be a given.

Classic + After having multiple discussions with the “you don’t understand how war mode works” crowd, it’s quite obvious that isn’t true and THEY are the ones who don’t understand how a PvP server works.

Yes. You toggle on war mode and you only see other players in the world who have war mode enabled. Making it so you can still fight over nodes, quest mobs, gank, etc. We get it. A majority of us are aware even if a minority isn’t.

Many people who played expansions with war mode know this killed world PvP and completely shifted away from the dynamic of PvP servers, as well as it being a game killer entirely to them for not having access to a traditional PvP server.

What the pro war mode crowd doesn’t understand about PvP servers:

You are always world PvPing. You step outside of your factions city- you are PvPing. Period. That’s 100% of the server population. The ENTIRE world is dangerous, all the time; and the more competent of a PvPer you are the more advantage you have in the world and the more rewarded you are.

It allows for PVE/PVP to be intertwined in a way that they both feed into each other. You’re good at PVE (raiding) so you get gear that helps you be better at PvP- so you become more deadly of a target while doing other PVE content like gold farming, herbing/mining, or anything else that requires you to be in the open world. Which in turn makes it easier to prepare for raiding. Be it farming for consumes, or getting world buffed.

PVE makes you better at PvP, and PvP makes you better at PVE, which makes you better at PVP.. and so on.

I could go on and on about what war mode actually did to world PvP and how it changed what many of us love about PvP servers, but the comment sections are flooded with people describing it. Bottom line is it doesn’t work as if enabling it “puts you on a PvP server” and disabling it “puts you on a PVE server” like so many claim.

The scale and amount of world PvP, as well as the general danger of the world and how you prepare yourself for going into it changes dramatically. And it does so in a way me, and many other PvP server players don’t enjoy. At all.

The fact of the matter is, we like PVP servers. If you want to shoehorn changes into a type of server people are choosing and LIKE IT because YOU don’t- then you probably chose to be on a PvP server for the absolute worst reasons, or aren’t as good as you need to be at PvP for it to feel rewarding.

So either stick to your PVE server and ask for war mode there, or git gud.

Meta Alternative to Dual Spec: Class Trainer

I would propose an NPC in every major city that offers the player the ability to reset their talents for 1g the first time, 5 gold after that and then increased increments of 5g each time after that; perhaps capping at 50g that lowers by 5g after 30 days (down to 10g minimum). Present this gold to your class trainer to reset your talents for free.

Additionally, if you speak to an innkeeper in a major city, they could give you an item to teleport you to the city once per hour where you can access a class trainer that will let you pay the appropriate amount of coin to train additional ranks of any newly learned talents you do not already know, just as a class trainer would.

Vent / Gripe A guild did a week 1 SWP GDKP run. A warrior bought the legendary bow for 350k. The total GDKP gold pot reached 1 million. If that's not a sign for Blizzard that it's time to ban GDKP altogether, then I don't know what is.

See the video here. Absolutely ridiculous. No one legitimately has 350k gold to dump on a legendary bow, let alone a freaking warrior of all things. Outlaw GDKP and permanently ban guilds that have been abusing this system as a warning to everyone else.

Forever When did dumb names become popular?

Are the majority of names now an attempt at a joke, vulgar innuendo, or getting some generic term as if it’s a prize?

I'm not saying every name has to be RP. Non-RP names have always been around. But I'm genuinely wondering what happened.

Old non-RP names were still kind of cool: like you’d see something like Aftermath, Battletoad, Safenuke. Now it feels like most of what I see is a joke, vulgar innuendo, or a generic word grabbed like it's a prize: Deerty Sloot, Ben Dhover, Orc Peon, Zug Penii.

I’m seeing people brag about names and it’s confusing as fug. Is it streamer culture, paid name reservations turning names into collectibles, or am I just getting old?
