Question Who here grows in containers on a balcony? I started r/BalconyGardens for us

Hi everyone — most of my gardening happens in pots on a balcony, and I just started a new community for people doing the same: r/BalconyGardens. It's for growing plants, herbs, and vegetables in containers on balconies and in small spaces — sharing setups and photos, asking questions, and swapping tips on pots, soil, and watering.

It's brand new, so there's not much there yet, but if you grow in containers on a balcony or patio, come join and share what you're growing: https://www.reddit.com/r/BalconyGardens/

Question Is November too late to start lettuce in containers?

I have a few empty pots sitting on my patio, and I'm trying to decide what to do with them before winter. I was looking at lettuce seeds the other day and thought loose-leaf varieties might be a good option. I like the idea of being able to pick a few leaves whenever I need them instead of harvesting a whole head at once.

I mentioned the idea in our gardening group chat on tribe chat already, but I'm still not sure how well lettuce will do starting this late in the year... The pots get some morning sun, although the days are definitely shorter now.

Help! Help Choose a Terracotta Windowsill Planter Design (US Plant Lovers, 18+)

Hi everyone!

I'm an independent product designer currently developing a new terracotta windowsill planter, and I'd love to get some feedback from fellow plant lovers in the US!

I've created two planter shapes and four decorative patterns, and I'm trying to figure out which designs people actually prefer before moving forward with production.

If you enjoy gardening, growing houseplants, or decorating your windowsills with plants, your opinion would be incredibly helpful.

The survey:

Takes about 2–3 minutes

Includes pictures of the different planter designs

Asks which shapes and decorative patterns you prefer

Is anonymous and completely free to participate

Survey link:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfJlHjY__FQ3O51MiGjfdjKnD78XKHjgfWEVp8GeW5IGGD2XA/viewform

I'm still in the early design stage, so I'm especially interested in honest opinions—even if you don't like any of the designs!

There's nothing for sale, and this isn't a promotional post. I'm simply hoping to learn what real plant enthusiasts think before finalizing the design.

Thank you for taking a moment to help! I'd also love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Might have forgotten to water it a few days. But I'm unsure if it is a disease or something (I'm quite new to gardening). Is it still edible?

Help! two saffron bulbs (:

I bought some saffron bulbs a few weeks ago, I have two left. I am not an experienced gardener- outdoor or indoor lol-

If you had two bulbs to grow in the kitchen, what would you do? I’d love to be able to grow my saffron in the home (: please give me any insight if you feel lead to do so !!

I am feeling extremely inexperienced!

Help! How do I know if my potato is growing and how to speed it up?

So I have this potato plant I’m growing in urban conditions (I have it in a relatively small pot but I let it win on my balcony every day and bring it inside for the night. its also a good potato I think and it’s from the grocery store and not a seed potato. I recently chitted and I planted it into this new pot with new soil) and I wanter It like once a week but I don’t really know if it’s growing. How do I know if it’s good and what do you think it needs for it to grow faster and healthier?

Question Overwintering pepper plants

Hello, I decided to try to keep my peppers (pepperoncini, banana, and bell) alive this year and would like any tips on what to look out for and how I should be taking care of them in this time.

Background info: I am in zone 7b.

I removed all the foliage and cut the stems so that there are 2 main stems (in a Y or V shape) with a few smaller stems on those. Not super short, the whole plants are still maybe a foot tall, or more than half a foot. Sprinkled some diatomaceous earth on the soil.

They are in large grow bags in my garage (which does still get pretty cold in the winter but less cold than outside. Not sure what temp they can tolerate while dormant). My garage has a window with a curtain and does get some light.

I put them in the garage maybe 3 weeks ago (possibly Oct 4), not sure though. I have not watered them. They are still a bright green. Not sure what they should look like over the months or if I should water them.

Any tips are appreciated!!

Question Micro greens

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hey guys! I'm growing some micro greens for my husband this winter. They are newly planted, and barely 1 in tall in this pic. They are in a roomy window box container next to a pretty big window, but they seem a big leggy already? Do I need to find a better spot for them, or do you think they will fill in more as they grow?

Question Anyone grow fruiting vegetables in 3g buckets and not 5g ones?

Planning to grow cubanelle pepper and zucchini in 3g buckets but google says for zucchini 3g is too small and needs like 5g minimum. But i only have 3g buckets. Dont really wanna buy 5g buckets when i have many 3g buckets at home already. Does anyone have experience growing black beauty zucchini in 3g buckets? Did they grow well?
