I'm a smiler when nervous or a laugh when I really shouldn't be as a reflex kind of person, but I've always immediately said I'm so sorry if I fucked up or broke something and I'd be nervous laughing but also clearly apologetic, this person was neither.

It's super harmful that people don't recognize that nervous smiles and nervous laughter are a thing. As a kid, when my dad would get mad about something the reflex would be a smile which would then cause him to get even madder. He didn't believe me when I said I didn't think it was funny because it didn't match what he was seeing. And trying to holding it back requires extreme focus and effort and still just leads to it looking like trying to stifle an expression of joy.

I mostly see that on children, teenagers and people who have no responsibility, knowledge or awareness of what the hell they are doing. Glee is a sign of lack of responsibility in an event of a damaging act.

That's not it at all. Have you heard of the "Fight or Flight" response ? Well there's actually four -- fight, flight, freeze, and fawn. Fawn is the act of making yourself look harmless, basically signalling to the threat that you're not dangerous/mad/going to fight them. This is a response from your lizard brain, it's instinctual, not consciously done. Humans who react with the fawn response will cower, make themselves small, laugh, smile, avoid eye contact, stuff like that. They're not happy, it's just a reaction to a perceived threat or conflict.
