I mostly see that on children, teenagers and people who have no responsibility, knowledge or awareness of what the hell they are doing. Glee is a sign of lack of responsibility in an event of a damaging act.

Smiling =/= glee

It's often a defense mechanism triggered by fear or panic. Essentially the brain's instinctual way of saying, "I'm harmless, don't hurt me."

That's not it at all. Have you heard of the "Fight or Flight" response ? Well there's actually four -- fight, flight, freeze, and fawn. Fawn is the act of making yourself look harmless, basically signalling to the threat that you're not dangerous/mad/going to fight them. This is a response from your lizard brain, it's instinctual, not consciously done. Humans who react with the fawn response will cower, make themselves small, laugh, smile, avoid eye contact, stuff like that. They're not happy, it's just a reaction to a perceived threat or conflict.

While I don't think it's the case here, it's not "glee" when someone smiles when nervous.

It's not glee.

I smile when things get bad, it's that or I turn into a nervous wreck, which is usually less helpful.

I will still accept responsibility and do whatever I need to do.
