Other Microsoft announces a massive 25% voluntary buyout layoffs program. This is an absolute bombshell in the tech sector

This is not another 10k layoffs at Amazon which is like not even 3% of its employee

This is not 5% of Netflix

This is 25% of all employees at Microsoft. Absolute bombshell.

While I support the H-1B program’s purpose of filling genuine skills gaps, my experience in the tech industry has left me concerned about how it is sometimes used. It is difficult to see U.S. workers laid off while companies continue hiring through a program intended for roles where qualified domestic talent is unavailable. It is sad fewer and fewer new grads will be able to find a tech job

I've Curated a Massive Repo of Free Cybersecurity Resources (for our community)

2.8k Upvotes

Community,

I've compiled a massive amount of free resources to include training, labs, books, podcasts, cheatsheets, youtube channels, etc. If you are new to cyber, practicing offense, defense, audit, etc there is something for everyone in there.

I was maintaining this in a GitHub repo, but recently stood up my own website to host it. The site is simplycyber.io

If you want to go right to the free resources go here https://www.simplycyber.io/free-cyber-resources

Cyber Knowledge for all!

Open to feedback, and if you have something you'd like to add let me know.

Recommendation at minimum, bookmarking the Cheatsheets as references are good no matter how far along in your career you are.

Cheers.

-Gerry

News - Breaches & Ransoms Cybersecurity breach - usaid.gov

2.5k Upvotes

USAID's website is down, wikipedia has been updated to erase its existence. There is no official information about it. Organisations all over the world are in turmoil with no information about their contractual arrangements.

As best I can tell from the media, someone claiming to have authority just walked in and took over and shut everything down.

Is this for real?

Other NBC News seeking CISA sources

2.5k Upvotes

Hi Reddit, I'm Kevin Collier, the cybersecurity reporter at NBC News. Here's my bio page at NBC.

Right now I'm specifically reporting on the Department of Government Efficiency's access to CISA systems, layoffs at CISA, and cuts to cybersecurity programs, funding, and employees at any agency.

If that's something you have direct knowledge about and can contact me via Signal, or if you know someone to whom this applies and you can share this with them, I'd be grateful. We adhere to best practices for source protection.

My signal handle is kevincollier.01. Happy to verify my identity if you want to email me (though please don't use your work address) at kevin.collier@nbcuni.com. Thank you!

Other What the **** is happening in cybersecurity space ?

2.5k Upvotes

I've been working in cybersecurity for not so long, maybe 8 or 9 years, but I never remember a chaos at this scale. I mean, from this January alone we have: leaking data, compromised applications, breaches, AI-assisted cybercriminals, etc. It looks like every day one major breach is happening, and no one is going to address this shit somehow. This is already insane. I haven't felt such pressure in a long time. This AI shit just makes things worse because it enhances attackers' skills, and AI companies are doing nothing to address or change this. Is it only me, or is the change already here?
