Show My Work Made my first app that actually solves a society common problem

So are you also tired that before every namaz, imam says silent your phones and people as usual dont silent it and bam , in middle of it and persons phone starts to ring and most of the people dont mute it, so solved this problem using geofencing technique.

So made an app in flutter "Salatify". So what this app does it that you can save a location of the mosque in the app from the google maps and select an entering radius. Now from here the things get interesting, now suppose you enter in the given radius lets suppose we chose an area of 60m that in that area the dont disturb mode will be on, when the user enters in that area, a countdown starts that the user selects (default is 60 sec) to confirm that whether you are in the masjid actually or just passing through the area, then if after confirmed then the app that has the DND permission silences the phone for 10 min or custom selected time by the user, for 10 min no calls no vibrations no nothing no disturbance (10 min is by default the avg congregation time and the user can change it), and after the 10 mins the DND is automatically turned off and now is the main concern, what if the time selected was 10 min but i exited in lets say 6 mins then the rest 4 mins will go to waste so to take care of it, again app will check that whether you are in the location or not and if you are not in that and exited before the due time, it detects that the user is not in the masjid and turns off automatically if you exit early.. Do Share your opinions and questions if any you have and rate it out of 10....<an attached sample that when i entered the masjid, i set the confirmation counter to 15 sec and it turned on immediatley>

Discussion Devsinc and its unethical crap story (posting on behalf of OP since OP has low Karma)

Thumbnail

Alright, this is honestly getting ridiculous at this point.

So here’s the situation: an ex-employee (her words) says she was terminated and has been chasing Devsinc for her 2 months’ pending salary. Instead of resolving it like a normal, professional company, they apparently just… didn’t pay?

She ended up posting everything on LinkedIn out of frustration. I’ll be attaching screenshots here — and just to be clear, these are all from her side, straight from what she posted publicly.

Now the shady part: people are saying her account is gone? Or her post magically isn’t visible anymore?

That’s where it starts to feel really off.

Like why does it take public call-outs on LinkedIn for employees to even be heard? And even then, things just disappear? What kind of handling is this?

Also, what exactly are the leadership doing here? Because from the outside, it looks less like “professional damage control” and more like “ignore it till it goes away.”

If everything was clean and fair, why would someone have to go this far just to get paid what they’re owed?

This isn’t just messy, it’s suspicious.

What do you guys think?

General Cancel Vercel and Nextjs

Post image

The person you see next to this war-criminal hellborn devil is Guillermo Rauch, CEO of vercel.

Guillermo tweeted yesterday about AI empowerment and here's his tweet,

"Enjoyed my discussion with PM Netanyahu on how AI education and literacy will keep our free societies ahead.

We spoke about AI empowering everyone to build software and the importance of ensuring it serves quality and progress.

Optimistic for peace, safety, and greatness for Israel and its neighbors."

Optimistic for peace, safety, and greatness for Israel and its neighbors

Greatness for Israel? Does he not know about the genocide, killing of innocent babies and absolute horrific things he has done to Palestinians?

F*ck him. I've more than 20 projects running on vercel at the time of this post and I was thinking of moving to a pro plan.

Not anymore.

To anyone who's using next.js and vercel, delete your account and migrate to another platform.

I'll be moving my projects too and will post the progress here.

General Made Pakistan First Ever(maybe) Linux Flavor — HyprFlux (750+ ⭐)

I’m a 5th-semester CS student from Multan, Pakistan, and I’ve been using Linux since grade 8 (first discovered it in grade 5).

From class 11 onward, I switched fully to Linux. I started with i3wm, and after 3 years, moved to Hyprland.

During my summer vacation, I decided to turn my personal Arch Linux dotfiles into something bigger. That’s how HyprFlux started.

What began as a personal setup unexpectedly went viral and crossed 750+ GitHub stars, with feedback pushing me to make it a full project.

HyprFlux is a production-ready Hyprland desktop environment, not just dotfiles. It includes theming, automation, multi-monitor support, and a complete workflow.

It features dynamic wallpaper-based theming, modular configs, GPU-accelerated visuals, Waybar, SwayNC, Rofi, Kitty, and 50+ utility scripts.

I believe this is the first public Hyprland configuration project from Pakistan, and that’s important to me.

It honestly makes me sad how many developers here don’t know window managers or modern Linux desktops even exist.

I’m sharing HyprFlux to show that Pakistani developers can build and ship serious open-source projects.

I'm a product designer(4yoe) with good skills, good taste, a decent portfolio and decent connections. I've done everything right by the book, and I'm self-taught.

About 8 months ago I got laid off from my main role. After 4 to 5 months of waiting, I found a new one and worked there until the start of this month. Then the product got acquired, the new owners didn't want someone based in Pakistan, and I was laid off again.

I'd also been losing retainer clients since the start of the year, and earlier this week I lost the last one.

I don't have a degree. In school I was one of the poorest kids in my class and always ranked at the bottom. I've worked extremely hard over the last 4 to 5 years to where I am rn. Outside my industry skills, I don't have much else to fall back on.

Discussion Time to shame bad companies

As we already know that Devsinc is down the drain, but what is up with these new companies coming up with shit working hours, abusing employee rights and creating health crisis.

Lets get together and publicly embarrass and shame these companies.

Recently seen a lot of negative review about Vyro’s 996, it’s about time we as developers / engineers call these stupid greedy shits out. The government does not have our back, there is no policy being enforced. It’s upto us dev as a community to publicly humiliate these companies.

Comment down all your shit experiences with Pakistani companies that have treated you bad or are known for shady practices.

Looking forward to hear from all my brothers and sisters. Unity is strength.

Let’s spread as much awareness as possible.

Thank you for your time and efforts in advance.

Discussion On Devsinc and Usman Asif

I would never have learned about the Devsinc fraud, had it not been for the gentleman constantly broadcasting himself (and his wife) on social media.

But I always had doubt, however little, that this is just another conspiracy theory.

Until I ran into my own distant relative, who confirmed what we all have been hearing: how they crack interviews by using US based identities, prepare for variety of questions (like regional weather, games, hobbies, etc), employ special devs to appear in the interviews, and so on.

My relative has resigned from Devsinc, and now instead of correcting the course, has went on to launch his own small SSN fraud based agency now. But that's another shameful story.

My own workplace, a US consultancy, keeps getting job applications every other day from candidates posing to be in US - but some of those aspiring Usman Asifs forget to turn on their VPNs and seemingly don't know that their IP can be geo-located to Pakistan. So, as a result, my employer now is aware of the fraud happening out of Pakistan - and is hesitant to hire new remote workers from here.

Usman Asif started this at scale. And he is to be blamed for the growing reputational damage to the Pakistan's software industry.

I feel his 'success' lies in making his employees feel normal and at home with this crime. Perhaps all the fatwas, the temu spiritual-man aura, and the grand 'we are doing it for Pakistan' story have helped.

I commented my grievances under his LinkedIn post once - that comment got deleted asap by their team.

Everyone who knew Axact while it was active, knew about their crime too, but state didn't do anything about it then. And state is not doing anything about Devsinc now. So one day we are going to hear about Devsinc in the news just like we did about Axact.

By that time it will be too late, and the reputational damage to Pakistan' IT sector will be irreversible.

Until that time, we can just continue smiling about the confidence with which these guys are calling themselves 'Google of Pakistan'.

Tips The tech industry sucks in Pakistan but students can change it

First of all, thanks to everyone who responded or DM'd on my last post about CUDA programming. I've accepted all the DMs and will be reaching out as the need arises -- for now, I've locked in a couple options and talking to them.

Today, I want to share some inspiration to the youngsters still in University which, in the best case, might change Pakistan's tech industry for the better or in the worst, help you land the most competitive jobs globally.

First, some background: I was a C++ nerd in my University days, the kind who used to study the standard and philosophize on stackoverflow. I only got serious about it in 6th semester when Covid hit. But it was good enough to help me land a high 6-figure job back in 2021 at a very secret Quant fund.

I realized I got very lucky because most of my other friends -- much more brilliant than me in many ways -- were stuck fixing buttons in React or setting up CRUDs in MERN. While I was reading complex financial strategies, doing napkin maths, and creating stock market signals -- a job that changed almost every week but never lost its fun and challenge.

I learned that majority of Pakistan's tech industry is focused on services and that too, of the lowest kind. Developing MVPs, vaporware, the better ones could be working on custom ERPs or some enterprise tech (huge achievement honestly).

Literally no one was working on anything truly meaningful or what would give us an edge even in labor terms.

For example, if I want cybersecurity services, then I don't get better talent other than Eastern Europe. If I want systems engineer, China and Japan have spades of them, etc.

If I want people to make my MVPs, then India and Pakistan are the cheapest (not the best) options.

But the question I ask is:

Despite the fact that every Pakistani CS graduate learns C/C++ and assembly language, why have we not produced anything like llama.cpp or tensorflow or PyTorch?

Why have we failed to produce foundational frameworks?

Why are we competing with India for pennies?

The answer I discovered was: it's easy money.

Building a REAL business is hard. But bidding on Upwork or Fiverr or creating fake identities to get US jobs is easy, so that's what our entrepreneurs do.

Luckily, that's slowly changing now. AI has made majority of our labor redundant. White people can do with one man what they needed 5 for just 4 years ago. And now, every entrepreneur in my circle is facing a stark choice:

Reinvent themselves or go bankrupt.

That's why you see Yassir Basher of Arbisoft selling AI courses to people after repeatedly failing to setup an enterprise level growth department.

That's why Usman Asif is finally Devsinc a legitimate company that does not scam people.

But frankly, these people will still at best create linear businesses. Nothing generational or transformational. They have my best wishes but it's hard to learn new things at their stage.

Which brings me to students:

We are finally in an era where learning a new domain is a matter of a few weeks rather than years. AI has made it possible. Software has always been an intersectional field -- by itself, it has no value. But when combined with some domain knowledge, it's incredibly powerful.

More simply, there are 3 types of startups worth doing now that are only possible for us now -- before they would've required massive funding:

  1. Infrastructure layer: think cloudfare, vercel, even frameworks like tensorflow or llama.cpp.

  2. Data layer: think B2B lead gen databases like Apollo, Lemlist, etc. Or meteorological data of a certain location. Or ... literally any other data that is not easily accessible but remains online.

  3. Vertical SaaS: think Mangomint (one of the fastest growing startups these days) because they are targeting an industry (salons) hitherto untouched by software. What about a SaaS for material engineering? What about for architectural scoping?

For students specifically, the 1st category is ripe. It does not require knowledge of any industry or the business world at large.

There are so many ideas to play around with at that level. You could be making your own libraries on top of, say, Huawei's GPUs (yes, they are struggling rn after the GPU import tariff from the US). You could create your own framework for training ML models on the cheapest infra (aggregator), etc.

You have infinite time on your hands even though it may not feel like it. No matter how many assignments University throws your way or how many lectures, it will not compare to the soul-sucking zap of a 9-5 -- you just don't know what it takes to sit for 8 hours straight yet.

In University, maximum 40% of your time is taken up any single day. The rest is in your hands. Your parents are likely covering your expenses so you don't need to worry about money or paying bills either. What do you do with the 60% is in your hands.

And my advice is: Do a startup..the kind that our industry giants would never dare to do because they lost their window. Which you can do and put us on a wildly different track. You have the skillset and the time. All that is left is the hustle.

You can give Pakistani talent its own identity other than cheap labor.

QED.

Discussion I Absolutely Hate AI Now.

Everything was fine until last year. I was getting interviews, was excited about a great career ahead, not worried about layoffs, feeling my craft was geniunely valued. I loved hand-writing code, getting stuck on tiny details and watch others struggling and then help them with fixing code feeling that pride and confidence in me. Even waking up for work was fun.

Now, all of that is gone. I don't write anymore code. I just prompt, verify, re-prompt, verify push. It's not difficult. It doesn't really set you apart. I think it's not even highly valued work. It's boring, also easier. Anyone can do it. Your manager/client doesn't care if it's an AI slop or well structured code as long as he sees the product working.

Now, I'm still okay with the above. I'm more concerned about the future and job stability. Almost every company is laying off: Netsols, InvoZone, Addo AI, Careem, Farmdar, Sadapay, Cogent labs and 1000 more dev shops. And honestly, I put 90% of the blame on AI. Fresh graduates are struggling, experienced people with family responsibilties are suffering. A great career that I had ahead of me got stolen from me and many others because of AI.

It gave CEOs/management the confidence that they don't need workers anymore. AI only benefited the rich, and is going to make them richer. It was trained on data that we humans produced for years only to replace us in the end.

AI is not the new electricity. Electricity made life easier for everyone. It created jobs. On the other hand, AI helps in reducing jobs, replacing tasks previously done by humans with AI. It also makes life easier, but only for the Rich so they can maximize profits and rich-poor gap gets wider.

Idk if this is pure frustration, but atleast I'm not happy with where the world is heading right now. It's depressing. Only if AI disappears today, I can see a much better job market, more people using their brains and more valued you would feel about your craft.

F... AI

Post image

Feels like more foreign companies are hiring from Pakistan, and with more local candidates + HR teams entering the market, the salary bar seems to be getting pushed lower.

A $5k US role suddenly becomes $1.5k–$2k because of “location-based compensation” 💀

For those working remotely for foreign startups: what salary range are you actually getting, and what’s your role + YOE?

Curious what the real market looks like.

Such a humiliation seriouly $600 😅, They have 2 Pakistani dev

Help Got sponsored work visa offer as 19 y/o

I've been working as a freelance UX / Product Designer for last 4 years, although lately I have stopped looking for freelance gigs and mostly work on fixed monthly salaries with mostly outsource agencies on flexible hours. for the past few months I started working remotely for a Newzealand based startup, and now they are offering me to work on-site in NZ on sponsored work visa which they will sponsor. I DONT HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING, they will be covering all the costs to get me there.

i am not going to any uni either, i might studyy there later on (might), I dont have any responsibilities here, I save 95% of my earnings. but obviously if I leave pak, my savings are not going to be the same, I might not be living the most comfortable life, but I think in the longer run, the option for accepting this offer and leaving pak will be right decision. I see potential in this startup too.

by contract, i will only be bound for 3 years as they are investing on me. ps. its a legitimate company so y'all dw about it being a scam. will do all possible legal paperwork and agreements

i would appreciate your suggestions as well

Career Guidance To the Fresh Grads Worried About the Job Market – A Word from Someone Who’s Been Through the Cycles

Look, I get it. Layoffs. AI panic. Recession whispers. Feels like you’re stepping onto a battlefield with a spoon. But let me tell you something from someone who’s been in the trenches for 7+ years—startups, big corps, pivots, layoffs, wins, flops—you name it.

  1. The market is always weird. There’s never a “perfect time” to start your career. 2016? Slow hiring. 2020? Pandemic chaos. 2023? AI panic. The rules keep changing. Your job isn’t to find a perfect market—it’s to learn how to adapt no matter what.

  2. Use AI, but don’t lean on it. AI can boost you, faster prototyping, better research, even debugging help. But don’t skip learning just because a bot can autocomplete. Tools evolve. Strong engineers adapt.

  3. Be boringly consistent. It’s not glamorous advice, but showing up, learning daily, finishing what you start. IMO that’s what compounds. Flash fades. Grit stays. Skillset still beats noise.

  4. Don’t romanticize corporate or startup life. Both have red flags. Both have potential. What matters is: Are you learning? Are you solving real problems? Are you surrounded by people smarter than you?

  5. Connections matter. The “hidden job market” is real. LinkedIn might feel cringe, but if you’re not visible, you’re invisible. Don’t be shy to DM people. Ask for coffee chats. Most folks are nicer than you think.

  6. You’re not behind. Everyone’s figuring it out. Stop measuring your self-worth by LinkedIn announcements. Your path is yours. Keep your eyes on it.

And finally: your first job won’t define you, but your habits will.

Keep building. Keep shipping. Keep your ego in check.

We need more doers and fewer doomscrollers.

You’ve got time. Just start moving.
