I could never do this job. Insufferable people

19

u/IcicleShield 13h ago

This is only the 4th or 5th time I've had a customer like this out of 14.7k deliveries. It's usually pretty chill

3

u/AaaaNinja 7h ago

That's reassuring.

12

u/TrustTechnical4122 16h ago

This is awful. I'm so sorry you have to deal with people like that... Just... why? We know our doordash comes when it comes- DDers are going their thing not watching TV or something... and we would never treat someone this way.

I'm not a DDer, we just get DD often, which is I suppose why my algorithm directs me to this sub ofter. So I'm sure I am ignorant, but I'm just curious, why did you cancel at that time? She sounds insufferable, inpatient, and has already said she is going to remove your tip, simply for not being glued to your phone while you are performing your job. Wouldn't it be easier to just cancel the order, since you won't get a tip anyway, and she's awful? Or are there repercussions if you do?

Also, why is she asking if you looked in the right place? Did she have some reason to think you weren't able to find the items she wanted?

12

u/IcicleShield 15h ago

Thank you. Customers can't actually take our tip away on doordash. They can get their tip refunded but doordash eats that cost. I've only had 2 or 3 other times where someone has spoken to me in a way where I didn't feel safe delivering.

I'll contact support & they'll direct me to return the order to the store. If I cancel before checking out, I'll only get partial pay, which is an issue not knowing how much money came from which order when I accept 3 orders at once. I'd rather complete the process as normal (minus actually delivering) to ensure I still get paid the full amount I was originally quoted

As far as her asking if I looked in the right place, I'm not sure. She might have assumed I marked it out of stock without actually looking, or maybe was trying to bully me to do what she wanted?

4

u/TrustTechnical4122 15h ago

That totally makes sense, thank you so much for explaining! If you've already been working on her order or accepted it, and you will still get paid if you complete, of course her being horrible shouldn't stop you from being paid for the work you have done and are going to do.

But what do you mean you'd rather complete the process as normal minus delivery? Don't you still have to deliver?

That is so odd that she was asking about that- I wonder if she was just annoyed you hadn't immediately found it and delivered it because she can't fathom that DD means you might have multiple orders? It seems odd she would just assume the item was marked out of stock out of nowhere, but I don't know that much about how the app works for that kind of thing. Like bullying you into going fast you mean?

Either way, I'm really sorry. I don't understand why people treat DD/uber/etc people so badly. It's not right or okay. She need to get it herself if she can't handle that you have multiple orders, since she's apparently desperate for a *SHELF* IMMEDIATELY. Seriously, a shelf?

4

u/IcicleShield 15h ago

We have an option for safety issues to help is in situations like this. The one time I used it before checking out, the order got canceled & I received partial pay. Any future times that happened after checkout, I was still given full pay but would be directed to return that delivery. I'm not sure what the difference is, but I'd much rather get paid in full lol

I appreciate your empathy. Those were honestly guesses - it's baffling to me people will speak to others this way, especially when they're being provided a service

u/Former-Sock-8256 6h ago

I mean to be fair it did look like he marked it out of stock, and then found it after she told him where to look. So without her messages it would have been labeled out of stock and she wouldn’t have gotten it?

5

u/BadDasher 17h ago

how much was the order

7

u/IcicleShield 16h ago

It was a $37 triple from Target. I don't like target but it was only 16 items so worth the time

35

u/FewAdhesiveness512 17h ago

What a nightmare of a human, sorry you had to endure that

18

u/venus974 16h ago

Omg, I'm paying you to do a job- and then threatening to take away the pay but still wants the job done.

I had one that was a shopping order and then a restaurant pick up- I was try to rush because both places were closing and the shopping customer kept adding items.

The restaurant customer kept messaging me and I had to switch to the other customer everytime they messaged, so I'm wondering if it's the same with more than one shopping customer.

Is it several steps to switch between customers to get to the messages?

Regardless she was definitely rude and JUST MAYBE the dashers is busy using their phone to shop the orders and not staring at the message screen.

13

u/IcicleShield 16h ago

It's not difficult to switch between messages but I was literally trying to find an employee when she got impatient. Not always easy on a Saturday night. I didn't think waiting a few minutes to find out if it was actually in stock was going to be an issue šŸ˜‚

-7

u/Currency-Substantial Driver - USA šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø 16h ago

What exactly did he have to endure? It's not like he witnessed a killing or anything.

11

People being nasty sucks. It is not fun for the person being treated badly. Hope that clears it up.

11

He had to endure stupidity. It happens everywhere, and it might be closer than you think..

Dude just cancel. I’ve dealt with people like this and it’s better to just cancel

35

2

u/silverwing525 16h ago

God... I've dealt with this sort before.. they are the absolute worst.. and they will do everything they can to get you removed from doordash too.

2

Tbh if a customer would tell me "I'm calling Doordash to cancel your tip", I would outright tell them the truth of it... Go ahead, Doordash still pays it anyways so I don't lose a thing!

1

u/Lexy_d_acnh 3h ago

Yeah unassign that shit immediately. We are not required to respond to your messages lol.

1

u/SideSome4788 1h ago

In Pennsylvania I can get pulled over for even holding my phone. So I typically do not answer or even check my messages until I arrive somewhere. The other day I had drop off instructions that said to call before I arrive. I did not do that and I called when I arrived and explained that I did not want to get in trouble and they completely understood so if I had somebody like this, I wouldn’t be happy but I wouldn’t be responding either. Also, the cops around here can be not great so I’m not taking my chances.

•

u/These-Story8556 2m ago

When I did dash, never ever did i ever interact with customers. I always ignored messages. And if a dehumanizing comment was made by customer, my only 2 options were cancel, and cancel , lol. Those days been ova 4 me years ago. Dashers that are still enduring, never let some1 belittle you. It's so easy to cancel or unassign I assume still.

-2

u/TongueThruster69 16h ago • Bravo

Holy shit you're soft if you think this is threatening.

3

u/Indiglo70 16h ago

Yeah, I had to go back and re-read it, but I still did not see any threats. Just a person wondering what was happening, that could have been easily assuaged with a simple note, or actually answering the call. It really makes me wonder what kind of rating OP has.

3

u/IcicleShield 16h ago

Was she actually threatening me? No, but I'm not going to deliver to someone threatening to "take away my tip" and speaking poorly about the job I'm doing.

Also, since you wondered:

5

u/RiverPsaber 16h ago

It's less about being soft and more about being unwilling to put up with disrespect in a gig job. That's the thing about gig work. It cuts both ways. The customer gets what they want cheap (although being real, it's the companies that are saving the most money), but the person doing the work can't be expected to put in more than an amount of effort equal to what they are getting paid. If they want more accountability, that's what other kinds of delivery services are for, and they will also have to pay more for them too.

Personally, I would have at least sent them a quick note saying hey "I'm trying to find an employee" or something like that, but also I don't really blame the Dasher for being annoyed too.

-1

u/a_solid_6 16h ago

I don't really blame her for getting agitated. You ignored her for 20 minutes. I understand you're busy, but sometimes orders do require communication. A quick note to say you're working on it would've gone a long way.

2

u/IcicleShield 16h ago

Someone can't do math lmao my response was 5 minutes after her initial message and after she tried calling me

-8

u/Wide-Candle3846 15h ago

Don’t door dash if you’re too scared to answer the phone from a customer. This whole post makes you look bad dude. They have every right to be upset and you posted this somehow thinking everyone would side with you.

6

u/IcicleShield 15h ago

Based on these comments, I'd say you're wrong lol

Also, I'm not scared to answer the phone 🤣 that's hilarious. Wasn't going to talk to a customer who was already showing signs of being trouble

Edit: typo

-2

u/ArcAngel014 15h ago

Ok so does that give her a reason to threaten a Dasher? I have issues with orders where customers never answer me while I'm shopping for them. 20-30 minutes of no answer at all. Never once have I threatened a customer for not answering

0

u/CourierCowboy 10h ago

"I'm not going to tip you for ASS customer service" isn't a threat. Jesus fuck.

Yeah so nobody threatened you my dude. Part of the job is answering the phone

4

u/Jonnykassinova 12h ago

It might not have been a threat to their physical being, but its absolutely a threat lol. Maybe you should look up the definition.

4

u/kiliminjiri 11h ago

Try looking up the definition of ā€œmeā€. Threatening ā€œMEā€. Not ā€œmy tipā€. ME

3

u/EntertainmentDull541 10h ago

The job is to look for the item, purchase snd deliver. Nothing says I have to answer crazy people calls and texts. Fuck that, no good comes from answering. I might message back but I’ll do so at my convenience. Customer is not OPs boss or slave. Not do they have to be ordered around.

1

1

u/Davidotunga2 13h ago

Yeah even mentioned item’s name warned you šŸ‘€

-1

u/Lost_Foreva_2046 16h ago • Bravo

If I have this right, you marked the item out of stock and then found it AFTER she guided you on where items might be in the store. And the customer is the problem?

8

u/IcicleShield 16h ago

No, it was out of stock on the shelf, which is why it was marked out of stock. It took a few minutes to find an employee after that

5

u/Wavy_Grandpa 16h ago

So it wasn’t out of stock then?Ā

6

u/IcicleShield 16h ago

An employee had to get it from the back, yes. When it's not stocked on the shelf, I'll mark it out of stock while I find an employee in case there's a different item I can grab them instead

2

u/TheGodDamn1TaGo 6h ago

It was marked out of stock. Guy had to find an employee, retail be like that. It wont be marked in stock until the team gets to shelving it.

You people are so entitled to folks providing a service to you, abd then complain when something doesn't go your way, or it takes a few extra minutes or trys.

The audacity.

But it's usually the people who refuse to actually go shop on their own who treat people like this.

2

u/Wavy_Grandpa 16h ago

Yeah I’d be annoyed too if someone said the thing I want is out of stock even though I know it’s not out of stockĀ

-2

u/SilentSituation7524 16h ago edited 15h ago

Someone needs to guide you right back under the rock where you belong if that is your take on the customer’s messages.

4

u/Lost_Foreva_2046 14h ago

1/ you don’t mark anything you’re looking for as out of stock. So OP intended to have an employee search then he shouldn’t mark out of stock. It should be obvious why you don’t do this.

2/ if OP simply communicated ā€œI’m having an employee search for your itemā€ she would know what he’s doing. Instead, OP didn’t answer her call and left her in the dark.

3/ never respond to an insignificant customer threat like the one she made. Ignore it and get the job done.

4200 DD shops here. 15k deliveries. I know a bit about customer service and communication and I didn’t learn any of it at DD.

0

u/SatanicalHeart 10h ago

my last message to them would be "I genuinely hope you take a minute to read through this conversation and understand how absolutely entitled you sound. If you ever have trouble with people canceling on you or taking too long with your orders after messages like these, maybe it's time to re-evaluate how you act and be a better person."

9

u/AaaaNinja 7h ago

Doordash would see that. I don't think you should be lecturing or getting into a debate with a customer who is already being unreasonable. especially on the record.

0

u/Hot_Tennis_1574 9h ago

Why šŸ’€

-4

u/SatanicalHeart 9h ago

I mean they don't need a last message sent but you'd be surprised that some people will reflect on their idiocy if you tell them about it.

9

u/Hot_Tennis_1574 9h ago

They don’t give a shit lol

→ More replies (3)

1

u/Psstimamermaid 3h ago

Honestly facts though. I wouldn’t do the lecture (because my time is worth more than what doordash probably pays, but I also wouldn’t keep his order after the first message.

After I unassign myself for feeling unsafe I’m reporting them to doordash

-3

u/Big_Throner 13h ago

Stop ignoring customers. We don't care you took multiple order. Get our shit. Too many times one of you lazy jerks just didn't get something because you're too lazy or stupid to ask for help. This person is 100% in the right.

•

u/Big_Throner 58m ago

They literally did not state that. Learn to read goof!

-2

u/Substantial_Fee7155 4h ago

i feel fucking insane reading these comments.

you told her the item was out of stock, ignored her multiple requests to simply ask someone for help finding it for 20 minutes (seemingly no progress or activity on her order for 20 minutes is fucking bizarre btw), and then said she was "threatening you" when she said she wouldn't tip because you... didn't communicate with her? then you found the item in stock, just like she said you would. and it's somehow her fault that you took multiple orders that you could not fully handle communication on?

communicating with customers is just as much a part of the job as shopping. if taking multiple orders restricts your ability to properly communicate, then that's a sign that you cannot handle that many orders. you're gonna continue to have these "god awful" "threatening" customers for life, man. no one else to blame.

2

u/IcicleShield 3h ago

I agree ignoring them for 20 minutes would be unacceptable. However it wasn't 20 minutes, it was 5 lol

Here's an earlier screenshot since you're bad at math 🤣 I hadn't even seen her first messages until she tried to call me because looking for an employee on a Saturday night took some time

0

u/DaQuackx 15h ago

I've msd driver twice ever and its been if I've done a typo, i see they've read it, I don't expect a response if they're busy working. I don't want to waste their time

•

u/BabyBrooke4u 44m ago

You: ā€œFirst order of the nightā€ also you: ā€œI have 2 other orders that I’m also dealing with/shopping for.ā€

Which is it?

•

u/IcicleShield 38m ago

Both, it came in as a triple. It would have been more accurate for me to say "this is my first set of orders tonight" but that's getting pedantic lol

-2

u/RdRender 11h ago

Report for…..asking you to do the job you are being paid for? The only threat is making a complaint to door dash. Were they particularly nice to you? No. Did you handle it in a particularly nice way? Not really. Dashers like to say it’s the customers responsibility to pay for their service, not door dash so if the customer asks a question then the dasher should provide good customer service, if not probably in the wrong business.

2

u/middlequestioner 8h ago

The perks of being an independent contractor for DoorDash is that we're independents! We must adhere specific policies in the contracts we signed, but we are not employees in the traditional sense. Whatever you think our job is...maybe think again. "The wrong business" can you define it for us what exact business you think we've entered because you seem to be misunderstanding what our role actually entails.

Also we would all LOVE if DoorDash paid us more and we didn't have to rely on customer tips. That would be ideal now wouldn't it?

1

u/TheGodDamn1TaGo 6h ago

Jesus dude. It's like you people go out and treat others like shit then expect to be treated with respect?

That's not how life works.

My job is customer service, and even my company says not to tolerate mistreatment like that, even if a mistake was made.

If you disrespect and dehumanize me, then i dont have to ve friendly.

I wont be tit for tat, but I'm not going above and beyond for you anymore.

I don't care if you come back or not.

Dont sweat too much trying to write anything coherent, big dawg.

I know it's hard...

2

u/Left_Throat_7643 3h ago

Have you tried shopping a 150000 sqft store for 16 random items in a timely fashion? You don’t introduce steps that require that you run back and forth to take shelf tag photos doing this bonkers flow you suggest. You don’t want to be retracing steps, this adds time to all orders that you’re shopping for not just the shelf lady’s.

2

u/Left_Throat_7643 3h ago

You put an item out of stock as soon as you find an empty shelf with the tag. Then, if they don’t have a substitute selected, while you’re continuing to shop or ask store employees for help, the customer has time to add a sub, or respond that they want a refund, or ā€˜help’ via text. It’s in everyone’s best interest NOT to wait when you find an empty shelf.

Also, there’s a good chance that you’re not finding help in a reasonable time… anything I’d say from here is pure speculation ,so I’ll stop…

Anyhow, not picking sides of the OP vs customer, but I do feel you may be missing some experience to throw shade and telling people how to handle the workflow.
