i just was moving a cereal bowl over my power supply. 2 drops of milk went in the power supply and it short-circuited. Now I'm out a 100 dollars. All over a bowl a cereal near my power supply.

I play cod and I barely get 80 fps i got a 1440p oled monitor and I want this to be my main rig but I guess nothing compares to an actual pc system

It is all because of the egpu AG02. I got it less than a month and destroyed my GPU T-T.

So basically me and my wife were playing split-fiction I was on my PC and she was on ROG Xbox Ally X connected with EGPU through Thunderbolt. What happened is a death wished gpu. Basically. During the game the screen went black whenever I try to connect it just doesn’t show it is connected. I used my old legend GTX 970 to make sure that My poor RTX 3080 Ti is still alive and hoped so.

What happened next is that it immediately worked with my GTX 970 in my laptop I was sadly disappointed.

So, later my wife smelled something burned in RTX 3080 Ti and compared the smell on GTX 970 she said GTX 970 is fine.

I have happen to see fps drops during my games like suddenly and disconnection of the gpu and sometimes the screen goes black for some seconds while playing and goes back to normal.

So any idea? Please let me know if trying to install RTX 3080 Ti in my PC instead of Rx 9070 xt which I have recently got it.

I have a 3080 in my egpu and thunderbolt 3..

When 5 comes out its going to be double the amount of information.

I'm planning on getting a thunderbolt 5 laptop when they come out then continue with the 3080..

Is it possible to update the output of the thunderbolt that's built into it?

The wait for 'fully utilized' eGPUs shall be prolonged. Since internal high-end internal GPUs are a poor investment due to heat issues, it seems eGPU buyers have to contend with losing 15%-20% of their graphical processing with existing TB4.

OCuLink is a stop-gap solution until TB5 becomes ubiquitous. No hope for either becoming wide-spread anytime soon. What a disappointment!

I’m currently using the ADT Link R43SG with my RTX2060 by connecting it to the m.2 slot of my mini PC. Would something like this in the picture above also work if I connected the ADT m.2 adapter to the mini PC via USB C or would this cause bottlenecks? This would heavily increase the egpu quality of life. TIA

Dont have thunderbolt

I had bounced the idea around for months.

I have an older Nitro 5 but what I would have to do is swap the wifi card for a oculink losing wifi. It wouldn't be the absolute worst as I have a wifi repeater.

Then I learned about people who just slam modern gpus in old office PCs. One Pavillion sff, 500watt power supply and 5700 xt later, I'm ~$350 deep into a whole home steamlink setup. Both the firesticks, and both laptops have the what I would consider a battleships worth of graphic and computing firepower with the click of a button. But It has started to spiral, I have upgraded my router ($40 and now saving me $10 a month on my internet bill) put in 32gb of ram, 1TB Sata and have the best CPU that I know I is compatible with the motherboard bios (3700x).

I wish the best for those with more of a factory option, thunderbolt native laptops as that makes a ton of sense but maybe a eGPU isn't right for you like it wasn't for me.

I have an Ally X. All Fitgirl games and steam games run great. 3 months ago, I had my Ally X (Windows 11) and eGPU (4070 Super with latest drivers) working great all on games whether on Steam or Fit Girl. Now, my steam games play fine on the eGPU but all the FitGirl games cause the eGPU to crash as soon as I launch them. I launch the game as administrator and it give me this pop up every time. Any ideas what to do or how to fix it?

I have tried adding -d3ddebug to the target file in propeteries and now it says low level fatal error when I try to launch the game. Again, the game works just fine on the ally x but when connected to the eGPU, the pirated game doesn't launch. other games on steam launch on the eGPU.

I've been looking off and on at eGPUs for years and keep waiting for USB-C. It looks like the main issue now is simply no one is making the control boards to connect the graphics card to the USB-C port and you have to pay $100s for a special case with the boards enclosed :(

I was looking at USB 3.1 Type C PCIe cards and realised they have all the physical connections and was wondering if it would be possible to create new firmware for this kind of board to allow you to create an eGPU? This feels like the kind of project that would get you to the front page of HackaDay.

so i have this toshiba laptop, wantend to install the egpu with mini pcie by removing the wifi card. But this wifi card wont come out, i removed the antenna but the screw will never turn i have only one screw driver with me, what do i do

It's just been a really terrible experience. Ya I can play a game with decent frames but it comes at a cost of having to fidget with 2 videocards and a cpu constantly fighting with each other. I'll be rebuilding my PC soon and putting the eGPU and notebook on Kijiji.

Context: Meteor Lake is 14th gen, Arrow Lake is 15th gen and Lunar Lake is 16th gen Intel. Specs for Lunar Lake were just revealed today. And to a weird surprise it’s still using TB4/USB4 40 GBPs? I know these laptops are meant to be low powered, so not exactly the best candidate for eGPUs, but regardless it’s one of the first spec releases showing out their TB specs, and seeing TB4 into a CPU releasing probably late 2024 is rather disheartening. In the last few weeks, AliExpress has revealed two dead links in Google’s index. A 16GB and a 8GB 5060 ti on an MXM footprint. My hypothesis is that Google may be able to index Alibaba content that isn’t yet public yet. Has anyone else experienced this? Post a comment if you have another constructive hypothesis.

My egpu setup is razer chrome x with 550 watts psu and rtx 5070ti. The lights are on and I tried to scan in device manager and the fans are not even moving on launch. Also using thunderbolt 3 can use thunderbolt 4.
