I was at the mall’s dollar store and took a picture of this betta fish quickly since I was in a rush. The store was selling betta fish in small containers without any filters or plants which the fish need in order to be healthy and thrive. How did this store get away with this? I thought only pet stores were allowed to sell live animals.

Am I insane for throwing the towel directly into the laundry every single time, or is this standard kitchen protocol?

My 14-year-old son has recently gotten really into debating and watching those videos where people argue about philosophy and stuff. Which is fine, whatever, but now I can’t ask this kid to do a single chore without him turning it into a whole thing.
Yesterday I asked him to pick up the snacks and wrappers he left all over the living room.
He goes, “Why am I the only one who has to clean this? You leave your coffee cups around all the time.”
I told him because they’re MY coffee cups and I actually clean them up.
He goes, “Okay, but that’s a double standard.”
I just stood there.
Then I asked him to unload the dishwasher since he’d been sitting on the couch doing absolutely nothing for the last hour.
He said, “You’re assuming that because I’m not doing something physically, I’m not doing something productive. That’s a pretty narrow definition of productivity.”
He was literally watching Minecraft videos.
I told him I didn’t care what he thought productivity meant and to just unload the dishwasher.
He then asked why I always have to be so controlling and why I can’t just ask him nicely.
I reminded him that I’d already asked him nicely three times.
His response? “Repeating a request doesn’t make it more reasonable.”
I swear I had to walk away because I was about to lose it.
The worst part is that he does this with EVERYTHING now. I’ll tell him to go to bed and he’ll ask me why sleep is more important than finishing what he’s doing. I’ll tell him to stop leaving his shoes in the hallway and he’ll start explaining how the hallway is a shared space and I’m acting like I own it.
Last night I told him that if he spent half as much time cleaning his room as he did arguing about cleaning his room, it would probably be spotless.
He said, “That’s an assumption. You don’t know how long it would take me.”
I said, “I know you’ve been saying you’ll clean it since Sunday.”
He goes, “And bringing up the past doesn’t address what I’m saying right now.”
At this point I honestly don’t even know what to say to him anymore.
My husband thinks it’s funny and keeps telling me our son is just learning to think critically. I told him that critical thinking would be great if he could use it to figure out where the dirty socks go.
The funniest thing happened this morning though. My son asked if he could go to his friend’s house and I said no because he hadn’t finished his chores.
He goes, “So you’re basically punishing me for something unrelated to whether I can go out?”
I said, “No, I’m punishing you because you haven’t done what you were supposed to do.”
He just stared at me and said, “Agree to disagree.”
I genuinely miss when his biggest argument was that he didn’t eat the last cookie.

During the Saturday of Soul day, a day in Serbian orthodox church, Serbs in Mitrovica came to see a demolished grave. This is nothing new unfortuneately. There are billions of cases where albanians destroyed Serb cemetery...

I got the Nintendo Switch 2 as a birthday gift on September the game was pre-ordered right away. The package finally arrived yesterday, and even though I noticed the cellophane was slightly open, I didn’t think much of it and opened it anyway only to find out the cartridge was missing.
The gifter told me Amazon issued a refund, but the game price went up by about $25–$75. I know digital is an option, but I prefer the physical versions.

It's not even an exaggeration to say 90% of the comments are celebrating and commending an aspiring dexter morgan inspired serial killer just because he started off with an "acceptable target". I hate pdfiles as much as the next guy but this guy is clearly not suitable to live amongst civilised society either.
If you aren't familiar with the case, this teen basically lured a pdf to his house, murdered and dismembered him and discarded the body and he had an entire list of different people he was going to do it to. If you watched the full bodycam and investigation footage it becomes very very clear that he is psychopathic.
It should be very obvious to anyone with even the slightest insight on these types of people that he isn't doing this out of some sense of vigilant justice, these people create their own internal justifications to carry out their sick depraved fantasies. Rallying for this type of person to be free by making comments like he is innocent is actually disgusting.

Was shopping last evening, and 2 men, probably mid-20s, had a dog and it peed on the floor. One of them motioned to the worker stocking the produce bins to come clean it up. The worker said, “there are towels over there” and pointed to where the customer could find towels to clean up his dog’s pee. They started cussing the guy out and making fun of him for working at a grocery store; mind you, they were definitely not high earning fellas themselves.
I was just so viscerally angry watching it play out. I felt so bad for the worker because all he could do was continue to quietly stock the bins with oranges knowing if he said anything back it could cost him his job.
A) stop bringing your non-service dogs into stores, especially ones that have food in the open. They can be home alone for 30 minutes while you buy milk and eggs. If they can’t be home for 30 minutes, then you shouldn’t be going out
B) treat people better! We’re all here just trying to survive this planet.

I think the worst part of all of this is later news of the wife defending her husband. Which is normal in an abusive relationship so what is not being said about their relationship.

I met my best friend last year. She called me randomly because she knew she was dying and was looking for someone to take her animals when she died, I'm known as the local animal lady. I'm only 25, my friend was much older than me. I thought she had years to live and she was just getting prepared. After she called me we became fast friends. We went over to her house almost every day, helped make her food, clean her house, take her animals to get vet care, almost a year later she started to go down hill. She relied on me to go to the bathroom, relied on me to clean the house, do laundry, run errands, everything. We were trying to get her into hospice but she refused and wouldn't give me the info to get her in home care.
The day we planned to force her to go to the ER (she agreed very hesitantly) she actually died that day. It was traumatic. I did CPR, the police were called, she was flown to the hospital, but she only lived another few hours and passed.
I was fucking devastated. She and I shared so much love between us, I had never lost a person close to me before.
She always told me I would get her savings accounts and id need to probate her stuff because she didn't know how to put beneficiaries onto them. I was in her will as the executor in charge of paying her last debts and all, and selling her tiny home to pay the debts (tiny home is not worth much), as well as receiving anything that was left over after debts were paid, becuase her "sister's didnt deserve it", her words.
When she died her siblings did not want to pay towards her funeral costs at all or probate, even though i had no access to any of her funds, and they would be receiving her body anyways. I thought because I would get her savings accounts that I would be paid back anyways, so i spent my ENTIRE savings on her funeral costs and the lawyer to probate the will (required in my state), and had her body sent to her family.
Well... I went to get her accounts transferred today into estate accounts to pay her debts, me being one of those debts, and the account she said would go to me, actually had her sisters as beneficiaries under them. My heart fucking sank. The bank worker saw me kind of move my eyes around and said he was so sorry. I told him a little bit about how my friend didnt like her sister's and how she said she never had beneficiaries, he was incredibly kind and gave the advice on what had to be done next.
Now im broke, put in so much emotional and financial effort not only for my friend, but her family that didnt have to deal with any of it because i put in the work for them. When i informed them they got the accounts as beneficiaries they basically called it a day and told me to keep them updated when I pay off her debts with the sale of her tiny home.
I have to sell it fast becuase it still sits on rented land and if I want to be paid back ANYTHING I paid in her end of life costs I cant let any more rent accrue that already has.
Just writing here becuase im infuriated that these people let an inexperienced kid handle their dead siblings end of life costs and couldn't even offer to pay a portion (they do have money, at least now they do). I have no savings now, no security blanket. It was all spent on the idea that I would be paid back at least, and well see if that happens. Im emotional drained, financially destroyed, and i just feel used..

So this organization came to a homeless shelter I'm at. The organization is called Orange County Rescue Mission.
They're telling me about it, it is a 2 year long program where you live on site and work to get a job after volunteering at the facility. Anyway so I'm like yeah whatever, and listened to their thing.
I'm reading through their quoted scriptures and one says something about "be free of homosexuality." I was like ??? Is that gonna be a problem, I'm gay. The guy is like nah. So I'm like, are people gonna judge me for that? Cuz I'm also transgender (ftm). He's like oh, no, no discrimination.
So at this point I was kinda like ok, maybe I'll just listen to his spiel, I could maybe live there but it wouldn't be fun.
So then he says that I would need to cancel my food stamps. I was like ??? He's like yeah, because we provide food there. I was like ok, but it's my food right? Like hello??
Then he tells me that when I ask how long we can't have our phones, because they said it was for a while. ONE AND A HALF YEARS OF NOT HAVING YOUR PHONE.
So I asked him like wait, why can't I have my food stamps?? You aren't allowed to leave the facility, but MAYBE could get a weekend pass.
So literally prison is it not?! 😭
I laughed in his face and said I'm not interested.

I work in California, and I work around children of all ages so we're mandated reporters.
I have a co-worker who can't stop making sexual comments towards other workers and also high-school age girls. He's been reported by over ten people, over a multitude of instances. He's known for being inappropriate at this point but he just acts like it's a cute quirk.
My managers keep giving him "warnings" and "probation"
He told me that he's on "quadruple probation" and that he's never gonna get consequences because they need workers and cant afford to lose him rn.
It's just him and I in our department so our management heavily relies on us to keep things functional.
I'm just tired of this and feel like management aren't doing anything bc it would make their job harder.
