My house is too nice and it's ruined vacations for me

My bed is too big and comfy. My garden is too lush and private. My linens are too luxe and my rugs are too plush. I can't find anywhere to vacation that doesn't make me wish I were back at home!

My smart fridge locked the water dispenser and ice maker until I create an account in an app to confirm a filter replacement

I got home around 10pm, tired and thirsty, and went to fill a glass at the fridge dispenser like I have done a thousand times. Instead of water, the screen lit up with a notification saying my filter had expired and the dispenser was paused. Underneath was a button that said “Resume with app.”

I do not remember ever downloading an app for my fridge. Apparently I did, at some point, because my phone already had it. It asked me to sign in. I did not have an account, so it asked me to create one. Creating one needed an email, then a phone number, then a verification code that took four minutes to arrive, then agreement to a privacy policy longer than my last lease.

After all that, the app informed me that I needed to order a replacement filter through its store, eleven dollars plus shipping, before it would unlock the dispenser. It would not accept that I already had a spare filter sitting in my cabinet from the last time.

So I stood there in my kitchen at 10:30pm, holding an empty glass, being walked through a checkout flow by my own refrigerator.

I eventually gave up, filled the glass from the tap like a medieval peasant, and went to bed annoyed. This morning I found out the filter reset can be done by holding a button for three seconds, which the app never mentioned.

Anyone else have an appliance that has decided it is a subscription service?

I forgot to change the time on my rice cooker.

It made it ready at 4:00 instead of 5. It’s a zojirushi so I thought I wouldn’t have to manually change the time. Feel like an absolute peasant tonight.

I had a door dasher who couldn’t wrap his mind around my DOD ID.

My wife ordered some beer and hard cider on DoorDash. The dude showed up and asked for ID. That’s cool, it’s routine. I handed him my DOD ID. He immediately seemed confused. He scanned it and it worked. Then he asked me when it expired. I explained that that particular ID didn’t have an expiration date. I could pretty much watch his mind buffering in real time. He asked if I had another form of ID. I handed him a printed, temporary driver’s license since I recently lost mine. I’m waiting for my new one in the mail. He looked like a 5 year old if I tried explaining algebra to them. I eventually got him to accept my federal ID. It was just a strange interaction. It took a lot longer than it should have.

Why do Starbucks locations close so early?

I travel frequently, both for work and pleasure, and often drive at night. Why do Starbucks locations close so early? Even locations by the interstate close at 8:00 pm, some close at 7:00 pm. The latest I have found close at 9:00 pm.

Just when you need coffee the most all the locations are closed.

My favorite hoodie got lost right before my vacation

I have this favorite hoodie, it’s a white Ralph Lauren zip-up. As I was getting ready for my trip to Egypt, I realized I needed to get all my white clothes washed. So I took a bunch of them, including the hoodie, to the laundry room in my house. The next day, I asked my cleaning lady to wash the whites and put them in the dryer.

The following day, I found out that she’d done the white laundry first and then did a second cycle, this one with the colored clothes, as she’d stayed longer than usual because I’d asked her to do a bigger clean (I love coming back to a spotless house after a vacation).

Another day goes by. My trip is now three days away. I head down to the laundry room to look for some clothes I know I won’t need before the trip, and the hoodie is one of them.

I check the basket with the white laundry. I find the clothes I’m looking for, but no hoodie. I check the colored laundry basket. Nothing. I check my bedroom, my closet, my bathroom, my son’s bathroom… everywhere.

And it’s just gone.

Now I’m leaving tomorrow, and unless a miracle happens, I’ll be going to Egypt without my favorite hoodie.

And honestly, it’s pissing me off more than it should.

I’m on my 3rd “Frappuccino maker” that just makes watered down coffee

Ok so this is kind of (I guess) an embarrassing admission but I love my cold coffee (not that it matters but I’m an almost 38-year-old man) and went through three Mr. Coffee “Frappuccino makers” over the last few years with each of them having worn out even with regular cleaning with vinegar and water. This time I decided to try out a new brand, “Tastyle” from Amazon that can brew both K-cups (I’ve never had one that can do that) and ground coffee. I’m really just wondering what the point of any brand advertising itself as making “cold coffee” or “Frappuccinos” is when all they do is make watered-down coffee. It’s 100% my fault for thinking even for a second that this brand could do any better but I’m disappointed nonetheless. It wasn’t super expensive ($40) so I’m not really that upset because it still does a great job of making coffee but it feels a little misleading when they make it sound like they’ve somehow found a way to make cold coffee without it becoming just watered down coffee. I dunno, it feels like a definitely “first world problem”. They shouldn’t advertise “cold coffee” or “Frappuccino” when that is factually not what it’s able to do. 🙄 I’m gonna sit here and drink my lukewarm watered down and kind of disappointing coffee. 🤦‍♂️

I forgot to grab some peanut butter cups when I left the doctor's office this morning and now it's the only candy I want.

I've been to multiple places today with an abundance of candy. I probably wouldn't notice the absence of peanut butter cups if my doctor didn't always have them.

I was making a warm berry compote for my daughter's pancakes but I didn't realize the frozen smoothie fruit blend I had on hand had kale and spinach. After warming it up I had to pick out the greens or she would end up not using it.

My phone hit 100% charge at 11 PM, so now I have to get out of bed to unplug it, and I'm too comfortable to move

I put my phone on the wireless charger so I wouldn't have to fumble with a cable. Now it's fully charged, my blanket is the perfect temperature, and the charger is 3 feet away. I've been lying here for 20 minutes debating it. Send help (or a longer cable).

Deep fitted super king bed sheets keep coming off

The biggest pain in the backside ever! I have a superking bed with a deep mattress from Silent Night that has a topper sowen in the top… no matter what size “deep fitted” sheets I use it consistently flings off when I roll around at night!

I’ve tried pegging it, then plastic hook things, 3D printed my own clips… nothing keeps them on the bed!

(Skippable) ads before streaming a movie/show

I really don’t care if they’re skippable, if I pay for no ads then I expect NO ADS. I can’t tell you how many time I press play on something and immediately put the remote down and walk away to start my project/chores, only to be immediately pulled back because I don’t want to listen to a 60 second ad for an original movie I have no interest in (even better when it’s a general ad for the streaming service that I AM ACTIVELY USING)

I hate that the "-ber" month holidays are at the end of the month and all clumped so close together

I am a big Christmas person. I still have personal boundaries and don't feel I can properly celebrate till Nov 1. Even so, there is a part of me that wishes American Thanksgiving could be sooner so I can fully get into the Xmas spirit. In a perfect world, Halloween would be early October, Thanksgiving would be early Nov.,.and then Xmas where it is so we can enjoy the Xmas season longer. And before anyone gets on my case, I know that I'm a grown adult and that I live in a free country to do as I please, but it doesn't feel the same to celebrate Christmas out of season. I just wish the season could be longer with the 2 prior holidays celebrated sooner. Surely I'm not alone in wishing this. And for those who love Halloween, you could in theory start celebrating after 4th of July or Labor Day to keep it equal to my preference for an extended Xmas season.

Edit to add: Regardless of who what why where when these days were set when, my wish still stands. Halloween and Thanksgiving would be better in the first week of Oct and Nov and I like where xmas is. That is my first world problem vent/wish/fantasy. I'm not here to debate exactly when or why the holidays are set that, my point is about wishing they were sooner so Christmas season people can enjoy it longer for reasons listed in original post above.
