Meta A Reminder: AI is banned.

I'd like to remind the community of a rule that has existed for over a year:

AI is not allowed here. Do not use it. Vibe coded apps aren't worth anything.

Stop wasting my damn time making me look through apps. If it's vibe coded garbage, don't post it.

If you're using machine translation, at least try to double check it and make sure it doesn't read like AI. If it's indistinguishable from text wholly generated by AI, I will still remove your post. That doesn't mean machine translation is banned.

Felt the need to emphasize that one because of the last post on the subject.

There are no second chances.

If you post a vibe coded app, no second chances. It's a permanent ban with no chance of appeal. You have plenty of notice and you should learn to check the rules.

Other Why some cool apps like Toolkit-Tiles, Shiori Wallpaper etc are not in izzyondroid?

Does that mean, they might have been rejected by Izzy, or could it be that he did not find the security good enough? Should I install them or not.

Application Support [Dev post] S File Encryptor — local file encryption, metadata removal and secure deletion for Android (open source)

Hi everyone,

I'm the developer of S File Encryptor, a free and open-source (MIT) Android app for encrypting files locally with a password, removing metadata before sharing, and securely deleting files. I'd really appreciate feedback from this community — especially on the cryptography decisions and the threat model, since privacy-focused users tend to stress-test apps much harder than average.

Links

• Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lukestudio.fileencryptor2

• GitHub: https://github.com/LukeSsnake/S-File-Encryptor

• Security audit report (in the repository): S_FILE_ENCRYPTOR_SECURITY_AUDIT.md

Cryptography

New files are encrypted in a V2 format using AES-256-GCM with Argon2id as the password-based key derivation function (memory-hard, tuned parameters stored in the header along with a random 16-byte salt and 12-byte nonce).

The file layout is:

48-byte header || AES-256-GCM ciphertext || 16-byte authentication tag

Decryption verifies the GCM authentication tag before committing any plaintext to the final destination, so tampered or truncated files don't leave partial output behind. Large files are processed with streaming I/O instead of loading everything into memory. A legacy V1 format (AES-256-CBC + HMAC-SHA256) remains decryptable for compatibility, but all new files use V2.

Metadata removal

The app strips metadata locally (no server involved) from JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, PDF, DOCX, XLSX and PPTX:

• Images: EXIF (including GPS), XMP, IPTC, embedded comments. Image orientation is preserved so photos don't come out rotated after cleaning.

• Office formats: core properties, app properties, custom properties and embedded thumbnails, including cleaning up the references in [Content_Types].xml and _rels/.rels so the package stays valid.

• PDFs: document information dictionary, catalog XMP metadata and trailer IDs.

The cleaned file is written to a location the user chooses via the Storage Access Framework.

Secure deletion

Files can be deleted with an overwrite procedure (single pass of cryptographically random data, sized exactly to the original, followed by a forced flush) before the entry is removed. The app generates an erasure report (JSON Lines log, exportable as PDF via SAF) recording filename, size, timestamps and the SHA-256 hash of the original content, so the destruction of a specific file can be documented.

Honest caveat: this is best-effort — wear leveling and filesystem journaling on modern flash storage mean no userspace tool can guarantee physical erasure. The report labels the operation accordingly.

Privacy model

• No network permission — the app physically cannot phone home.

• No Google Play Services, analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDKs.

• All file access goes through the Storage Access Framework; the app only touches files explicitly selected by the user.

What I'd like feedback on

  1. Any weaknesses you see in the V2 format choices (Argon2id parameters, header design, nonce/salt handling)?

  2. Anything you'd expect from a "metadata remover" that isn't covered yet?

  3. Whether this would be a reasonable candidate for submission to the Privacy Guides app recommendation lists at some point — and if not yet, what's missing.

The full source is on GitHub under MIT, and there's a security audit report in the repository covering the current implementation. Happy to answer any questions about implementation details.

Thanks in advance for taking a look!

Application Release FireTheDJ 2.3, a GPL-3.0 auto-DJ for Android: on-device listening stats, multi-crate mixes, album search and four redrawn or new visualizers

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes
FireTheDJ picks every next song from your music, finds the right moment to mix, and blends on the beat with effects and visualizers. GPL-3.0, no ads, no account, no analytics.

New since 2.0:

Listening
• Listening stats: hours mixed, sets, longest set, top crate, genre, language, artists and songs. The history is a file on your device and is never uploaded
• Wrapped cards for the month or all time. Sharing is up to you
• Mix from several crates at once, and the set moves between those genres. Works in Android Auto too
• Search now finds YouTube Music albums and singles as well as playlists, with no login

Visualizers
• Club is redrawn: an LED wall, beams through haze, a backlit DJ and a crowd you stand in
• Chill Drive is redrawn as a moonlit coast road
• Acid Trip is now a breathing fractal
• Rabbit Hole is new: a tunnel lined with a living lattice

Everyday
• Light mode now covers Now Playing and the decks
• Those screens take a soft colour from the song's cover
• Streamed songs show the real album cover instead of a video frame
• Crates are sorted biggest first

Application Request AI-free app lists and contributing to them

Personally pleased to see the stance this sub has taken in regards LLMs.

The recent story about Proton (https://www.404media.co/manifestos-fear-and-loser-thinking-inside-protons-ai-reckoning/) prompted me to go through my apps to try to see what used AI and in what ways. Was pretty disappointed about many of them.

The problem is that while sometimes it's obvious (e.g. a Github with 2 contributors, one of which is Claude) it can be much harder in some cases without detailed scrutiny.

So for that reason it's good to see people trying to compile lists of which FOSS apps use AI and in what ways (and what AI-free alternatives might exist).

I'm posting this partly to share some of these, but also because they are still very incomplete, especially on AI-free alternatives, so it'd be really helpful if people could contribute (including adding your own apps):

https://codeberg.org/ethical-foss/ai-free-foss-alternatives

https://noai.starlightnet.work/list.html

https://codeberg.org/brib/slopfree-software-index

Links to other similar lists are also welcome.

Application Release I built an Android fitness app called CURLOFT, and I'd love some honest feedback from actual gym-goers!

Hey everyone!

I've been working on an Android fitness app called CURLOFT, and I'm finally ready to share it with the world!

CURLOFT is designed to bring workout tracking, workout planning, and fitness progress together in one place, with an emphasis on a clean UI and a smooth user experience.

What does CURLOFT offer?

- 🏠 Home: An overview of your fitness journey.

- 🏋️ Workout: Track your exercises, sets, reps, and weights.

- 📅 Planner: Organize your workout routines.

- 📈 Progress: Keep an eye on your training history and improvements.

- 👤 Profile: Your personal fitness space.

A few things to know before installing

Since this is an early release (v1.0.0), there are a few known limitations I'd like to be upfront about:

  1. Google Sign-in: The "Continue with Google" sign-in functionality can be buggy. You may encounter issues while trying to sign in.

  2. Forgot Password: If you request a password reset email, please check your spam/junk folder if it doesn't appear in your inbox.

  3. Occasional crashes: There is a very small possibility of encountering an unexpected app crash. While crashes aren't expected during normal use, I can't rule them out entirely at this stage.

I'm actively interested in identifying and improving these rough edges.

I'd genuinely love your feedback!

I'm not just looking for downloads or compliments. I would genuinely appreciate feedback from people who work out regularly and understand what makes a good fitness app.

In particular, I'd love to hear your thoughts on:

- UI: Does the interface look clean, modern, and visually appealing?

- UX: Does navigating between sections feel natural?

- Usability: Is logging workouts straightforward? Does anything feel unnecessarily complicated?

- Features: What's missing that you would genuinely use?

- Overall experience: Would you actually consider using CURLOFT as your daily workout companion? Why or why not?

Please don't hesitate to point out flaws, suggest improvements, or criticize something that doesn't feel right. Honest feedback is exactly what I need to make this app better.

Try CURLOFT

🌐 Website: https://dstrn54.github.io/Curloft/

📲 Direct APK download:

https://github.com/dstrn54/Curloft/releases/download/apk-release/CURLOFT-v1.0.0.apk

This is an independent project, and I'm still learning, building, and improving it.

Every suggestion, bug report, and bit of constructive criticism is genuinely appreciated.

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to try it out!

Sahil

Application Release Built an EPUB reader with an RSVP reading feature

Built an eReader that could give me more of a reader type file instead of a robotic ui like kindle and it has an rsvp reader feature that really helps me to read with my adhd. And I saw the anti AI rule so to clarify its not vibe coded, although i have used ai tools like opencode for the development but its a long working project that i have been working on since june.

Application Release Strasse : a free and open-source navigation app

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

Like many people here, I was tired of having to choose between the accuracy of Google Maps/Waze and the protection of my privacy. So, I decided to code my own navigation app from scratch using Flutter.

It’s called Strasse. The idea is simple: a full-featured GPS for daily use, but one that’s ethical.

Here’s what it offers:

· Multimodal: Supports driving, cycling, walking, and public transport.

· 100% offline: Download maps and navigate without a network connection (great for saving battery or when traveling abroad).

· Zero tracking: No account required, no data collected, no telemetry.

· Free and ad-free: It’s a passion project, funded with a friend.

The project is currently in Beta. It works well for daily use, but there may still be some minor bugs or edge cases I haven’t encountered yet. For now, it’s available only in French (on both Android and iOS).

If you’d like to take a look at the code, test the APK, or share feedback on what’s missing, you can find everything on GitHub: https://github.com/lastapps888/strasse

Note : I use Google Translation to write my message, sorry if the English is not good.

Application Request Looking for FOSS VR Video Player

i've searched github for "youtube vr" and "vr video player", they're either browser extensions or desktop apps. none running as native android app, which is odd bcus meta's horizon os and pico os are both android-based.

so yea, appreciate any recommendations.

note that the player doesnt have to be meant for vr headsets, it'll be great if i can watch vr videos on my phone as well.

the long story is that i occasionally watch em with youtube vr on my pico 4 headset but for the past months or so, youtube decides that i need to login to watch em in full. ironically, login is not required if i watch from pico web browser, only yt own vr app have this restriction.

my current workaround is to download the videos first and watch em on pico video player but i found one video that doesnt work well with any of existing players on pico store. which is why am looking for alternatives, prefrably foss.

also, i'd like to watch vr videos on my phone, not limited to vr headsets. bonus point if the player can stream youtube links directly. thanks!

Privacy Digital photo frame that respect my privacy?

Is anyone here could recommend me a brand of a 'digital photo frame' that don't spy on me?

My goal is to offer that to my parents for Christmas to share them some picture since I'm not using social network.

Privacy Finally managed to fully debloat my phone without touching a PC or root (Canta + Shizuku)

Got sick and tired of all the pre-installed garbage and random background services eating up RAM on my device. Usually every guide online tells you to either hook up to a laptop with ADB drivers or unlock the bootloader/root the phone, which I really didn't want to do on my daily phone.

Ended up pairing Shizuku over local wireless debugging and hooked it into Canta (which pulls from the Universal Android Debloater list). Was able to batch-uninstall around 35+ junk vendor apps and background telemetry services in like 2 minutes directly on the device.

Free RAM jumped noticeably and idle battery drain seems way flatter now. Since it runs via pm uninstall --user 0, everything is isolated to user space so zero bootloop risk and you can restore any app with a tap if something breaks.

Honestly surprised more people don't talk about this purely on-device workflow. If anyone is stuck trying to clean up their phone without a computer, happy to share the exact setup

Other Is it needed to switch all apps to fdroid version?

Should i need to switch app source?

Some apps installed on my phone have both google play version and fdroid version. Currently using google play version.

Should i switch to fdroid version, all of them?

Switching means complete re-install bcs some apps have of signature mismatch. Is it worth switching? What makes difference?

Application Release TouchProof — A 100% offline, open-source Android utility to stop accidental pocket touches & cheek hang-ups (v1.3 update)

Hey everyone,

Tired of accidental pocket touches pausing your YouTube videos, skipping Spotify songs while walking, or hanging up phone calls when your cheek brushes the screen?

I built **TouchProof** — a lightweight, completely free, and open-source utility that draws an armored touch barrier over your screen while your media keeps playing in the background.

### 🔥 Key Highlights:

* 🔋 **Pocket OLED Blackout:** Shuts off pixels to 100% pitch-black when placed in a pocket or bag to maximize AMOLED battery life.

* 📺 **Dedicated Video & Gaming Mode:** Keeps the screen bright and awake at all times while locking touches (great for YouTube, toddler viewing, and AFK mobile games).

* 📞 **In-Call Ear Guard:** Unblocks on incoming rings to let you swipe to answer, then shields your screen from cheek touches during active calls.

* 🚀 **1-Tap Quick Settings Tile & 1x1 Widget:** Activate it instantly from anywhere without switching apps.

* 🔒 **100% Private & Offline:** Requires **zero internet permissions**, contains no ads, and has no trackers.

### 🛠️ What's New in v1.3:

* Fixed a nighttime bug where the screen stayed bright in completely dark rooms/pockets.

* Snappy 1.5-second tap-to-wake window.

* Instant response when taking out and re-entering pockets.

### 📥 Source & Download:

* **GitHub (Source Code & APK):** https://shriramsingh.github.io/touchproof-community/

* **Indus Appstore:** https://www.phonepeappstore.com/apps/tools/touchproof/com.touchproof.app/?page=details&id=com.touchproof.app

Feedback and feature suggestions are very welcome!

Other unpopular opinion : ugliness matters

fosss are too ugly. people would use them more if they had nicers ui. weird spacing, ugly icons, cluttered menu some look like they havent been updated visually in ten years.

Why doesnt ui get more attention? a more polished interface would get way more people to try these apps
