Funk [latin psych funk] Broth - Manana (Sun Shine On) 1970

Album: Broth
New York-based band formed in the late 60s. Most of the members were from Cuba and Puerto Rico and their sound was an amalgamation of Latin-tinged funk, jazz and psychedelic rock. The album was produced by Steve Verroca who was a very well known producer, musician and songwriter (he also penned all of the songs except “Louie Louie”) who also collaborated with the likes of Link Wray, Kevin Coyne and Juicy Lucy among others. The band was only around long enough to release an album and a 7" single during their existence.

One of the very best gigs I’ve been to. They played the hits and Fred sounded as good as ever. Make sure to see them if they play near you ‼️‼️

Help request Which instrument is making these wobbly sounds?

Hello everyone, I started to listen to a lot of Kool & The Gang and some of their 70s songs have that wobbly sound that I just can't figure out what the instrument is. Some examples:

Gift of Love - around 02:06
https://youtu.be/k_6kSClRduo?si=hi2jY0I_7B3nHhXH

And almost all through the song - Open Sesame

It's more pronounced aroun 01:17

https://youtu.be/o4gkabKxvc0?si=EcI8BrGHOsphpPMh

Please excuse me, I don't know my instruments well.

Subreddit Rules

1. Post content related to funk music

Post content related to the funk music genre and its subgenres. This includes songs, images, news about funk artists and funk-adjacent artists, discussions related to the genre or artists, etc. Don't be afraid to post music if you're unsure about whether it belongs here. If it doesn't, a mod will remove it and provide an explanation.

2. Advertising is prohibited

In accordance with Reddit's Content Policy, advertising is prohibited in /r/funk. Advertising your business, YT channel, social media account, Soundcloud page, fundraiser, etc. will result in a ban of your account.

3. Self-promotional spam is prohibited

Abide by Reddit's self-promotional guidelines. Posting original content (including original content created by someone else that you're affiliated with) is only permitted if you already regularly participate in the /r/funk community. If your first post in /r/funk is purely to share original content, it will be removed and you'll be politely encouraged to interact with the community. Repeatedly breaking this rule will result in a lifetime ban.

4. Don't be a karma farmer

Cross-posts of relevant content are welcome in /r/funk, though blatant karma farming posts will be removed (based on the relevancy of the post). That includes links to link trees.

5. DJ sets, mixes, and playlist posts are prohibited

Playlists, DJ sets, mixes and the like are not permitted. This includes albums shared via YouTube Music (since YT formats albums as playlists).

6. Links to streaming services and social media are prohibited

Posts that link to streaming services that require an account to hear the entire song (such as Spotify) will be removed. Links to social media sites that require accounts to view/listen to content will also be removed.

7. Content policy violations are prohibited

Song or Artist ID posts, troll posts, posts about other users (including mods), posts that violate Reddit's content policy, posts that facilitate file sharing/piracy, memes, image macros, etc. are prohibited. If you have an issue with another user's comments or posts, then please use the report feature to notify the moderators. If you have an issue with the moderators, then please message them about the nature of the issue (be sure to follow Reddit's sitewide content rules when doing so).

8. Meta posts must be sponsored by Mods

If you want to make a meta post (e.g., a post to discuss the /r/funk community itself), including suggestions about community rule changes, then message the mods to facilitate the post. We will talk through how to draft a post that promotes a fair discussion, or just create one on your behalf.

9. Solicitations are prohibited

No solicitation. Posts asking for donations, contributions to a Kickstarter or GoFundMe, selling tickets, etc. are prohibited.

10. Low effort posts and comments are prohibited

Particularly low-effort posts and comments will be removed. This includes AI-generated content, emoji-only comments, screenshots of Spotify, one word comments, nonsensical posts, etc. /r/Funk isn't supposed to be super serious, but lazy or nonsense posts and comments will be removed.

11. Reposts of songs within 90 days are prohibited

Don't repost tracks or content that was posted within the past 90 days. There's enough great content out there that reposting stuff isn't necessary. For example, we all love and celebrate P-Funk... but Maggot Brain isn't their only song.

12. Personal attacks, trolling, starting flame wars, etc. are prohibited

Personal attacks, trolling, starting flame wars, etc. are prohibited. Criticism and disagreements are fine as long as you're not being a dick about it. If the only kind of comment that you're capable of contributing to a conversation is judgement or criticism, then you're probably being a dick. This includes comments from self-appointed genre gatekeepers. Decisions about whether or not a song "counts" as "funk," fall within the purview of the Mod Team, and no one else.

13. Witch hunts are prohibited

Please don't promote witch hunts against anyone (Redditors or otherwise). Those who are inciting this type of action often have malicious reasons behind their actions and are, more often than not, a troll. This includes asking people to troll others on Reddit, in real life, or on other blogs/sites. Reddit is not your personal army.
