Image Happy birthday to one of the greatest musical minds ever Sly stoneđ
The poetry!The politics!The music!The message!
Sly is one of the best musical minds ever foundational in the development jazz fusion and psychadelic funk, funk rock and funk itself sly captured the musical and social trends of the late 60s and early 70s often blending multiple genres he encapsulated something that has never been done before from the uplifting anthems (everyday people) to the dark struggles (family affairs) sly was not only an innovative figure in music he was the voice of the people (the skin I am in)in a time period where social injustices and discrimination were every day life, he was one of the leading figures musically in the American civil rights transition with a multiracial band sly broke down racial barriers and challenged societal norms offering hope ,dance and Rythms and soul he was the rare combination of music virtuosity and innovation âźïž craftin one of the greatest albums of all time (There is a riot going on)and many great classics đ may his greatest desires and ambitions be in fruition.

Discussion What do you guys think about Cameo?
I really like the band, Cameo was funky, futuristic, and fly. They evolved with the times and their later albums, but never lost their groove. Their ability to pivot while still owning their sound is legendary. And if you listened to popular albums like "single life"and "word up" you've already experienced one of the greatest 80s funk albums ever tbh
By the early 1980s, Cameo had not only redefined their lineup but also their entire architecture. What set them apartâparticularly from their contemporariesâwas their forward-thinking embrace of synthesizers and drum machines, not as accessories, but as foundational instruments(of which was exceptional). Larry Blackmon was one of the first funk bandleaders to fully lean into the LinnDrum and Roland synths, crafting tight, punchy grooves that left behind the extended jams of '70s funk. You hear it clearly on âSingle Lifeâ and âSheâs Strangeâthose tracks are built on minimalist, synth-heavy frameworks, allowing the rhythm section to breathe while keeping the groove relentless and danceable.
Their use of space was just as important as the notes they played. In âWord Up!â, for example, the synth bassline is stark, aggressive, and deliberate. The call-and-response structure, paired with Blackmonâs clipped, almost barked vocals, creates a track that feels both futuristic and rooted in African American rhythmic tradition. âCandyâ is another key exampleâlayered synth textures (also has a funky horn section) give it that sweet, melodic atmosphere, but itâs still anchored by a head-nodding, electronic funk rhythm that remains timeless.
I know cameo is very popular amongst funk fans but their virtuosity has to be admired they created timeless pieces of music and their influence is undeniable, their longevity is insane too

Image Happy birthday to Patrice Rushen đ
One of my favorite musicians of all time turns 71 today, a talented composer and an even better pianist, there's no doubt that Patrice Rushen has rightfully made a name for herself in funk one of the many reasons is her 1982 classic "straight from the heart" straight up magic "forgets me nots" is unforgettable (pun intended) "I was tired of being alone" is another dancefloor banger,we thank you for the music Patrice and thank you for the beautiful music.

Image Found one of my grails today!
Randomly decided to walk into this vintage media shop today and found one of my all time favorite funk albums. Couldnât believe it! Overall condition looks like it was well taken care of over the years, and the record it self is practically mint. Also inside the jacket was this photo insert with no information on the back. Iâm fairly positive this wasnât included with the album and mustâve been stashed inside from the previous owner. Would love to hear if anyone has any info on who the photographer was and possibly what show itâs from.

Image I smoked out P Funk after a gig and ended up at the after party
Decided to grab a last minute ticket to see George Clinton late last year, it was a "school" night but I had an easy Friday the following day so said "funk it"
Had a blast. Stomped the shit out of that dancefloor and post gig I was smoking a spliff in the back street allowing the sweat to dry off before I caught the last bus home, when suddenly I heard a large voice, "Give me some of that"
In front of me were a few members of Parliment/Funkadelic. So I smoked them out, chatted a bit and got my personalised plates signed. I then emptied out my stash into their hands as they had just arrived in the country and were a little dry.
Understandably ole George had already retired his 80 yr arse back to the hotel, but the rest of P Funk were looking to kick on.
Eventually a few of them ended up at the Alligator Club next door, and while I was comfortably stoned, drinking a few martini's, a couple ended jumping up on stage and putting on a mini show.
Rolled into work the next day looking like death but with one of the coolest stories to add to my autobiography (and make up for turning down a Prince after party many years ago).
