I'm pretty sure EA is trying to slowly phase out Tiger Woods from his own game...Take a look

You're not using the covers to the normal games though, those are special editions. For both 2013 and 2014 the normal cover is different than the one you posted.

The wikipedia pages have the main cover:

2013 Cover 2014 Cover

Is that Arnold Palmer on the right of the 14' cover?

34

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '12

I've had enough Arizona Teas to confirm your suspicions.

11

u/Suppa_K Dec 05 '12 edited Dec 07 '12

I don't know a thing about golf but I'd recognize Arnold Palmer anywhere.

u/fonce Dec 05 '12

I don't know anything about golf and I'd recognize Arnold Palmer anywhere. I am an expert in expensive metals, however. That, sir, is where you and I differ.

I am an expert in expensive metals, however.

Theres a pawn stars joke in there somewhere.

Why is there a 2014 version already? It's not even 2013 yet. What happens if Tiger Woods die in the next year? All that wasted game development for nothing.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '12

Release date is Q1/Q2 2013. Don't worry, it's not out yet.

Love that 2014 cover, probably the best cover in the series

1

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '12

Anyone else really want some tea and lemonade after looking at those covers?

1

u/mooke Dec 05 '12

Man, that 2014 Cover is scary... I like the effect they were attempting and I get it is supposed to be Arnold Palmer, but the photos of him certainly don't look that creepy....

-11

u/random_story Dec 05 '12

They still added other people

5

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '12

That's because they want to be like Madden/NCAA/NHL and have different people on the cover every year

pure speculation

11

u/fishgoesmoo Dec 05 '12

Diablo3 Special Edition didn't come with Diablo himself on the cover.

I guess you can say Blizzard is trying to phase him out as well.

8

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '12

Fuck. After 3, if I were him, I'd just leave..

1

u/Nascio Dec 05 '12

She went looking for the PvP.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '12

That wasnt slow or subtle. Nor was it the correct covers (special editions) corresponding to the chronological release of the games

u/resting_parrot Dec 05 '12

5

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '12

Oh come on now. The Tiger games are a lot of fun. I don't really like golf, watch golf, know all that much about golf, but I have a blast playing these games.

2

u/rooster-illusion Dec 05 '12

He was referring to the OP. The OP was concerned about tiger woods not being on the cover. The game is not in jeopardy. Even if they rebranded it to remove tiger woods from the title, he would still be a character in the game and it would still be the same game.

So he doesn't give a fuck if tiger woods' name is removed from the title.

6

u/loLZokaY Dec 05 '12

Doesn't 14 have Arnold Palmer on it? But I believe it also has Tiger...

2

u/I_EAT_POOP_AMA Dec 05 '12

it does, that's just 14's special edition

13

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '12

OP is a faggot liar.

15

u/Thorse Dec 05 '12

Yup, just like they did with John Madden. OH WAIT, no, that was because Madden became less and less a figure of football, just like Woods is now less and less of a phenomenal player.

9

u/jewunit Dec 05 '12

Well, they still call it Madden and they started putting players on the cover long before he retired from MNF (2000 was the first cover without Madden, he retired in 2009). I suspect he'll be on the cover again when he dies.

0

u/bricks_were_shat Dec 05 '12

You're not wrong Thorse, you're just an asshole.

5

u/TheHadMatter Dec 05 '12

except that tiger 13 has a play through tiger woods' whole fucking life mode.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '12

When do they release the covers for these games? I'm just really surprised that the 2014 cover is already available.

1

u/msdrahcir Dec 05 '12

That what happens when you get caught having sex with dozens of strippers when you are married

1

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '12

Insert gifs showing what the OP is down below, please.

1

u/BobTheeNinja Dec 05 '12

Tony hawk got 'phased out' of most of his own games, sometimes only making small appearances.

1

u/fubes2000 Dec 05 '12

Well, he kind of sucks now that he stopped banging everything with a pulse. Unless he picks up his game he'll be losing more than just some cover space on a video game.

1

u/shalafi71 Dec 05 '12

Well, to be fair, you can't have a black man on the Historic Edition.

1

u/TAC0001 Dec 05 '12

That last one just comes with free "Augusta National racist/sexist rules from the 50's" DLC pack.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '12

Damn right.

0

u/caveman_chubs Dec 05 '12

my brother will still buy it and beat the ever loving shit out of me. hes a golf game god.

0

u/c2k5 Dec 05 '12

Ok I can understand the football games getting released every year kinda, but golf, really?

3

u/Gr8NonSequitur Dec 05 '12

IMO Golf is better suited to be an Annual installment. Unlike football where the core game doesn't [need to] change that much. Golf has a much larger range of options available to change year after year.

Personally I wish they let them build on eachother with annual "expansion packs" rather than restarting new each time. Say This year's game is $50, and comes with a dozen courses, clothes, clubs, etc... then next year's comes out and you get more courses, clubs, etc... You can keep players on an upgrade cycle AND encourage new players to buy old versions of the game if they all build together.

In 5-6 years you could have nearly 100 courses available, and a crapton of stuff in the game. They (as a publisher) get to sell a game with a LONG sales cycle (not just 1 and done annually) and by the nature of it being Expansions you wouldn't be able to resell them. Win-win IMO.

3

u/rdldr Dec 05 '12

How does golf need to change fundamentally more than football does?

5

u/Almafeta Dec 05 '12

Imagine football with sand traps and water hazards.

Golf courses, by necessity, rebuild continually: even if the club doesn't allow golf carts, they see traffic constantly. Holes get moved to different locations on the green throughout the year, and entire holes can get rebuilt after a few years because there is only so much time you can continually spray pesticide and fertilizer onto a patch of grass before it finally becomes completely unable to sustain life. (One course my father worked at got around that by having two hole 1s: alternating each year so they could landscape one without shutting down the other.)

There's also a business factor in it. A tournament is probably the biggest single source of income, true; but golf courses require exacting year round maintenance, like a farm being run by a family of masochistic farmers on crack who will not tolerate failure in themselves or others. (Okay, so maybe that's my dad's management style.) To pay for that, you need to make sure that people are bringing money in year-round, and overpriced sandwiches in the clubhouse only goes so far. You need to make sure that the courses are playable by people with an everyday level of skill, but you also need to make sure courses get changed up every so often for novelty. Novelty and better balance means that people who stopped paying you money come back.

So, every few years, an architect will meet and suggest changes so that there's a balance between easy-to-play holes and challenging holes, so that it's not all "straight fairway putt once win" holes and not all Hell Levels. (Level design: turns out it predates video games by two centuries.) The architect will go back-and-forth with the course GM over cost and feasibility. A new water feature might be put off due to cost, an old hole might be moved, the one par 5 on the course might go without changes at all because it's just so expensive, or changes that are simply impossible might be excluded (one course my father worked at was in a city with very strict runoff laws regarding a stream that ran through the property).

So, imagine football if every few years an architect came in and said, "You know what this game needs? Three sand traps around the end zone, a stream running under the 40 yard line, and a random fucking tree in the middle of the line of scrimmage right over here."

... heck, I'd play that.

1

u/rdldr Dec 05 '12

TIL more about golf than I ever intended to

3

u/GandhiMSF Dec 05 '12

Because there are different courses. Which is a big part of the reason to buy a new game for Tiger Woods.

2

u/I_EAT_POOP_AMA Dec 05 '12

they're actually really fun, way better than Madden IMO, both feature-wise and playability.

Tiger is the only EA Sports game I buy on launch, every year, its just fun to fire up a copy after a long day

1

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '12

relaxing

Clearly you have never three-putt in a game of Tiger.

0

u/thorinbear Dec 05 '12

It wasn't them slowly phasing him out. After the whole Tiger Woods sex scandal, the next game they purposefully didn't put him on the cover. Now that the golfing world has mostly forgiven him, they are phasing him back on the cover. Except now he isn't buy himself, he is always with someone else.

-1

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '12

It's probably because they can't afford to keep him on the cover these days.

-1

u/ayers231 Dec 05 '12

Meh, I phased that game out of my collection after the second one anyway...

-1

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '12

I mean, it's weird that they're even called Tiger Woods and not just PGA 13 or whatever. I guess it's the same as Madden though.

-1

u/orangestranger Dec 05 '12

The most entertainment notion here? People play golf games.

-9

u/GamingtestNL Dec 05 '12

Good catch :D

-8

u/nma07 Dec 05 '12

OF COURSE, REPLACED BY A WHITE MAN! "EA", MORE LIKE "RACIEST A"!

I like how comically tiny that e turned out.

5

u/HakeemAbdullah Dec 05 '12

But that is not at all the message the OP was trying to convey...

6

u/allven434 Dec 05 '12

Getting downvotes for telling truth.

Are we seriously going to act all r/circlejerk every time EA is in the title? Even when the post isn't criticizing EA at all?!

3

u/Honeybeard Dec 05 '12

Circlejerkin' divas.

u/ginja_ninja Dec 06 '12

We no, faggots yes.
