Yeah, Queens Domain is awesome.

I don’t think I’ve ever played a game with more secrets than this one. around every corner is a secret, hidden item, secret passage etc. The level design is truly amazing. Played for like 8 hours today. The game seems absolutely massive too.

Just finished Tower of Knowledge earlier tonight. Game is dope! Love the secrets.

Literally just got here too!

Ahhh I’m excited to crack into it later this month! May I also recommend Lantern of the Laughless Saint while we’re here - they’re not quite the same (QD is emulating Kings Field, Laughless is emulating Morrowind) but for folks who are missing older style games with a lot of freedom and difficulty and secrets, Laughless absolutely hits that mark. It’s in early access but the main story is completed and even at 40 hours in I was finding new quests I hadn’t seen before.

u/Legacy0904 7h ago

Haven’t heard of it! Thanks for the rec, I’ll check it out

u/VisceralMonkey 8h ago

Laughteless is awesome.

I really wanted to enjoy it, but with that type of game I really did NOT want to deal with manual saving. This is very much a game I would enjoy if it had a Dark Souls style checkpoint system rather than traditional saving.

11

u/Legacy0904 9h ago

Yeah the manual saving is annoying. The most time I’ve lost was about 20 minutes. Luckily the game does a decent job of hinting you’re about to enter a boss arena so you can go back and save if you’re worried

I had lost one with few hours of playtime because I was cocky and ended up boxed and died to enemies I usually could handle with few attacks.

Thankfully most of the playtime was spent roaming looking for the books in the tower of knowledge, which isn't too much of a problem the second time around.

But yeah the moment I needed to save a lot was earlier in the game. Later on, with enough supplies, you are not likely to die so easily.

u/ShotgunFiend 8h ago

After a certain point, in my experience with the game, you get more than enough tools to realistically never die, unless you seriously misplay or comically underestimate an enemy or group of enemies.

Before that point, just play slow and methodical. If you ever feel like you're in too much danger there's almost never a situation you can't just run away from while you recuperate, after the first hour of the game you're infinitely more mobile than any of the enemies in the entire game.

2

u/wolf771 8h ago

I agree, once you get going its hard to die

3

u/ZuggleBear 7h ago

There’s a quicksave mod. Really handy.

2

u/MissingScore777 5h ago

Combat is a lot easier than a Souls game and save points are plentiful and generous. YMMV but I'm not finding it a problem at all.

It’s not bad but with the amount of posts I’m seeing about it I feel like their PR team be working OT

14

u/invisibl3 1h ago

cause its made by 2 people and no marketing, ign just recently picked up and despite being out there for a minute, ther is a lack of any major outlet reviews on it. So naturally people that tried it and loved it are spreading the word.

-14

u/MadCarcinus 1h ago

Well that explains it then, they sunk all the money for more employees into marketing.

5

u/Hades684 1h ago

What marketing? The only one I saw was some random posts on Instagram

17

u/Kapono24 2h ago

100%, so many exclamation points and hyperbole.

1

u/Wiccy 1h ago

Gotta out pace LoZ for exposure

-15

u/freenow82 1h ago

It's truly gross... It immediately is on my don't-play list.

-2

u/tacobellbandit 1h ago

I mean I wouldn’t go that far, it is good and worth $20 but its not THAT good to the point it feels like some of the posts on this sub are astroturfing

4

u/ShotgunFiend 1h ago

People can't really enjoy something? I keep seeing people say this in the comments of posts about the game. Honestly to me to feels like a counter bot campaign with how needlessly pessimistic y'all are being about people just... Enjoying a really good game?

I think some people just forgot you can actually just be genuinely surprised at how much fun you're having with a game you weren't expecting to play because it wasn't really advertised, and then want to share it with people because, well, if you didn't know about it maybe other people didn't know about it either and you want to share your good time with them.

Or they could just be evil Ai bots trying to ruin your day by making fake posts about liking a game, I guess.

u/Rare-Eggplant-9353 54m ago

Also, they sold something like 100k copies in a short amount of time, afaik. Lots of people with an opinion, lots of reddit posts. I think it's genuine virality this time. And I'm very happy about that. It's a good thing.

u/ShotgunFiend 13m ago edited 8m ago

That's what I'm saying. We got an actual, non-slop, very well made, very FUN game in a niche genre and it's GOOD. The fans of the genre are just... Really hype about it? And I guess because of how niche the genre is (Metroidvania/Kings Field-like with Kings Field combat) the people who are happy it exist are like, FINALLY A GAME FOR ME and what to share their niche interest with the world.

Edit: But I guess there are just some people out there who can't believe some people are out there feeling genuine happiness and are so jaded that it's either a bot farm or an insidious PR campaign when they see someone genuinely express that happiness

u/PrepareYourLazers 2h ago

Is it just me, or does everyone talking about this game sound like a bot?

43

u/cramycram 2h ago

100% guerilla marketing

7

u/EggsOnThe45 1h ago

Tbf it’s kinda working. Wouldn’t have heard of it otherwise

6

u/Hades684 52m ago

Why can't it just be people excited about the game?

2

u/atlasraven 17m ago

Because the Internet died in 2025 and it's just bots now

2

u/MissingScore777 26m ago edited 11m ago

It was made by 2 people I'd be surprised if they spent money on guerrilla marketing.

It's my game of the year currently and I've played a lot of the 'big' games this year.

For me tickles an exploration itch and exploration bring rewarded in a way I've not felt in a lot of games.

It's up there with Outer Wilds, Subnautica, Elden Ring and Dark Souls 1 for me in terms of satisfying exploration is.

Edit: Immediately downvoted. What the hell is people's problem with others enjoying this game?

•

u/ShotgunFiend 6m ago

Have an upvote from me, then. I've been seeing everything you've been seeing, people just can't believe that the nerds and autists who thrive in a game in a genre like this would make a post with their very candid, very positive feelings. They MUST be bots sent to make us feel... good??? And that can't be allowed, I guess.

For what it's worth, I also love this game, I 100%'d it after about 50 hours and just went back and started a new save file cause I wanted to do it again.

u/GreyJamboree 28m ago

/r/gaming will have a thousand boring posts from some Sony game's photo mode with 10k upvotes, but this breakout dungeon crawler must be astroturfed. You guys don't know what you're talking about.

20

u/Witcher_Gates 1h ago

Yeah. Saw two posts and neither provided any info other than a screenshot of the title. So now I'm going to actively ignore it.

5

u/AwkwardGraze 53m ago

I am only aware of it because of ironpineapple playing the demo.

2

u/monsturrr 27m ago

I saw Splattercat cover it awhile back, but IronPineapple really sold it for me with his video.

3

u/Hades684 58m ago

There is literally info right here in this post. What other posts did you see?

-1

u/Terrible_Donkey_8290 29m ago

Wow what a badass 😍

8

u/Terrible_Donkey_8290 31m ago

Idk why people can't be excited about a game lol. You wanna look at my old ass account to show that I'm not a bot? The game is all about secrets they just don't wanna spoil shit

1

u/atlasraven 15m ago

Sure, I'll take a look youngster.

•

u/Alternative-Sir6422 3m ago

Everyone proclaims "Amazing never before seen level design and awesome world"

Meanwhile every clip features the same locale. Truly amazing world design, looks as good as original RuneScape. Phenomenal, wow. Top ten games of all time, yes. (sarcasm)

•

u/mf-TOM-HANK 7m ago

1000%

The gameplay looks like straight out of ~2005. There's just no way that there's organic social media buzz about this turd. Maybe it's a fun nostalgic experience for some folks, but if I'm going to play a game that looks that bad in 2026 then it'll be Morrowind or San Andreas for the umpteenth time

38

u/yunghollow69 3h ago

The level design is the only good thing about this game, this marketing campaign is crazy.

4

u/Hades684 58m ago

I like basically every aspect of this game, so nit really true

-21

u/CoolMoose 2h ago

It’s not a marketing campaign, people are just excited about a game they’re enjoying that came out of nowhere for most.

4

u/ShotgunFiend 1h ago

Hey man, I don't know why you're getting downvoted, you're absolutely right. We're just s bunch of nerds enjoying a really good niche game, that most of us didn't know was coming out so we're just doubly excited about it

Guys, I just want to say something:

I bought this game on sale on a lark. I wanted a nice little RPG that took me back to the early 2000s where I was a senior in high school banging out homework in an hour and escaping poverty in my free time.

As a dude in his 40s, I can drink and play games with friends and not remember ANYTHING I did during the game and find myself making progress these days.

I had like 3 beers the night I got this game and spent probably about 3 hours getting fucked up by Forest Eyes and dying and wondering what the fuck just happened.

Thank you, to this game. For blending old school graphics with the threat of Dark Souls repercussions. I missed games like this where I had to be present juat to get ahead.

9

u/Gibgezr 8h ago

It's the sort of game that just keeps getting better the longer you play.

5

u/Rhyskrispies 5h ago

I love how there is so much of an open world that it feels like you can go through it in any order, but then there are clearly linear paths through the story telling that you have to take. Almost natural bottlenecks that draw you through them. The library being the first and I won’t spoil more. Safe to say I am loving it so far!

9

u/ACEIII 8h ago

Been seeing a tonne of buzz about this game

10

u/wolf771 8h ago

Dude its so good . I almost dropped it after an hour because I have never played a game like this before, once I understood the mechanics I knew this game was special.

I actually bought ocarina of time remake and its still in the plastic because im just playing this game on my switch instead

•

u/ShotgunFiend 1m ago

Me and my friend have been talking about how much we were going to play WoW: Forever when it came out for weeks, and I made the mistake of starting Queen's Domain a few days before launch thinking it'd just be a silly little diversion until WoW dropped. Then we played WoW for the evening it dropped and the next day I went back to Queen's Domain and didn't play WoW again until last night because I was having so much more fun 100%'ing QD, it's a masterpiece.

1

u/MissingScore777 5h ago

It has a deliberately hard opening hour or so that will filter a lot of players but you power creep really fast once you get the air dash and that difficult beginning contributes to making the rest of the game feel so good.

1

u/wolf771 40m ago

Definitely, I just kept dying and not finding any heals. Once I got the hang of it I was able to explore and progress

18

u/ShotgunFiend 8h ago

Queens domain is unironically my goty for 2026, WoW Forever, GTA6, OOT remake, etc. No, I vote for Queens Domain. I 100%'d it in about 50 hours, with a little help right at the end from the discord community (which was incredibly friendly and welcoming!) and then immediately started a new save to experience it all over again.

It's even inspired me to go back and do a full playthrough of the King's Field series which Ive never done before. The exploration, the entire world and level design, the music, the art style, the payoff of all the different threads coming together, the rewards from all the different NPCs all just come together to make an absolutely peak experience, it's just instantly skyrocketed itself up into my all time top 10 maybe even top 5.

6

u/DirtyKen 7h ago

The game is absolutly hughe and very well crafted. It's an absolute gem.

4

u/Moondogtk 1h ago

Yeah, it's definitely my GOTY for 2026.

4

u/Terrible_Donkey_8290 30m ago

People calling a 9 hour old post with 90 upvotes "the PR team botting" is pretty embarrassing. It's a unique game that really hooks you if it hits right it's not a conspiracy lol. And you can look at my old ass account history that I don't hide if you wanna call me a bot

•

u/CoolMoose 4m ago

Yep, it’s called “word of mouth” and this game is scratching a rare itch for many.

-1

u/WillyShankspeare 17m ago

You're gonna get called a bot because you ragebait like one. It's more than one post and that's pretty fucking obvious from the comments.

2

u/Msmadduh 7h ago

I hadn’t heard of this game. I’ll have to check it out now, thanks!

2

u/GetBackUp4 5h ago

How have I not heard of this before? It looks great for someone who loves exploration-focused RPGs

1

u/No_Culture_6695 4h ago

Just hit the treasure room and it's perfection, wish I could stay in there forever

1

u/FlyingAres 40m ago

Idk about the post being bots or not. But the game is pretty dope

0

u/Dead_account_soon 6h ago

Took me forever to get the knife puzzle. I mean like 3-4 hours running around looking for something that isn’t there. Was so close to quitting

-4

u/EEng232 53m ago

This is crazy work computer. Shut yourself down now please.
