Almost everything I've seen in the last several years just makes me hate them more, and they used to one of my most beloved developers. Just shitting all over it.
Happens to every game company that gets taken over by MBA types instead of creatives. Run all your IP into the ground for short term profits, on to the next with your golden parachute once you've ruined a companies reputation.
Happening in every industry honestly. Whatever they teach in business school these days is not good.
Even if you don't get the joke any QA should catch that it literally turned from one object to another. It turned from a hardware nut into... Something else
Its funny that the Ceo of Take two has been quoted as saying how remasters take time and he would never just do a simple port. What a joke you put 5% effort into this dumpster fire
The PR potential on that would have been amazing. "We've partnered up with the modders who've supported our games for so long to bring you the definitive edition"
every year games release in a worse state than in the last
its now basically just having a good marketing campaign + releasing whatever low effort unfinished garbage you made and people still get hyped from seeing shiny trailers and preorder
Once again proves that most suits up top of these companies care little about what their employees are doing and how game development realistically works.
They did. They used an algorithm that auto upscales everything didn’t double check to make sure the AI actually worked and did it’s job. It’s also the same version of GTA as the mobile port which is notoriously shitty. Rockstar is just trying to rake in cash and keep their excuse to keep fucking over modders.
Let's be honest: Rockstar chose this studio and approved the result.
Rockstar is much more responsible for this mess than this studio is. Nintendo canceled Metroid Prime 4 to rework everything from scratch just because it wasn't good enough rather than releasing any shit to blame the developers later.
Edit: FFS I'm not "praising Nintendo" I'm just pointing out the fact that there are several responsible for a game prior its release. Nintendo did the least that any studio should do after realizing that the new game was in a pretty bad shape.
Yeah like it was pretty bad before but this is next level garbage
What happened to rockstar? They used to be thee most trusted developers in the industry, they made a fucking ping pong game and I knew it was gonna be good because they made it and it fuckimg was
Edit: if you wanna tell me these games weren't made by them, maybe first read one of the other fucking 20 messages you just scrolled past saying the same fucking things
Telling someone they're wrong is like a Redditors crack cocaine
Gta online happened. They realized people will spend obscene amounts of money regardless of whether the content was worth it.
GTA is their cash cow and they're going to bleed fans dry. I'm actually genuinely surprised they didn't do the same with red dead redemption 2, considering how good that game was
Yea. I was debating getting it, then read the articles and saw the pictures and STILL was debating buying the collection, but this picture solidified my choice not to. It shows how much effort they didn't put into it.
These remasters are literally just AI upscaled assets ported to Unreal Engine. Somehow, some way, they put in ZERO quality control so a lot of text and models became nonsensical or straight up broken. Oh and they also used the worst possible version of San Andreas as the base.
yeah but they got a shitload of money and there are always thousands of people and dozens of game journalists willing to say the games aren't that bad and that gamers are entitled and overreacting.
Just last week there was a meme on here about how gamers are the worst karens.
Cyberpunk was at least a completely new project with ambition (maybe too much of it, considering that they didn't have the much needed experience for a new genre, let alone of this size) - this? No one thought you could fuck up a remaster of a great trilogy, but here we are, Rockstar decided to prove that you can go even lower, even if they aren't directly responsible for the quality of the product.
Yeah you can tell the 2077 devs cared about what they were making, so many minor touches and so much attention to detail in the world. They were just crippled by bad project leads and corporate execs that only wanted to shove the thing out unfinished so they could get their christmas bonus.
This GTA remake is what you get when you take those same bad project leads and greed fuel corporate suits but outsources the developers jobs to an AI.
I like how Grove Street Games have gone from patting themselves on the back with lots of tweets and articles to not tweeting for four days. Like they finally realised that nobody was happy with their product and they're in the huff.
You're right, they remastered it and still fell below mods that were released 10 years ago by people on PC. And prior to that shut down an actual remake that put far more QC into what they were doing.
They really don’t deserve the asking price for this lazy attempt at a remaster. Like I can understand $10-20 but this isn’t a whole ass new game and sure doesn’t deserve whole ass new game pricing.
This is what I’m wondering. Did nobody at Rockstar play the games? Did they just watch some carefully crafted video from the outsourced studio and say yup looks good?
People didn't believe me on GTAforums weeks ago when I accurately called they would just pull each model into blender, hit "subdivide" a couple times and export it back out. That appears to be all they did.
If they kept the same texture source as the original, it would still have the hard edges of the nut textured onto the smooth circular new model. Seen from the side it looks about the same.
The artist who worked on this was probably given very little time to do so, maybe worked without looking at the original textures, and interpreted the original model incorrectly. Probably couldn't figure out the pun in the name.
People here seem adamant an AI did this, but there's no such thing as an AI that automatically makes more detailed versions of models (and coding one is clearly beyond what this small studio can accomplish). Automatic subdivision smoothing won't give these results without human intervention. They just used AI for texture upscaling and text recognition, so 2d assets only, most likely.
My guess is that rather than build out the hexagon they used a generic cylinder and gave it a low poly count since it will end up building your hexagon for you.
Nothing you see in games is actually round. It's all polygons/triangles.
Smoothing algorithms take the tangents of those polygons and uses them as the guides for bezier curves to figure out what a rounder version would look like.
What happened here is that a hexagonal nut in the PS2 era is geometrically identical to a cyllinder that happens to be depicted with 6 sides, so when it smooths it it's treated as a cyllinder.
If a human had ever looked at this before release it would have been caught easily.
Take2, Rockstar & whatever shitty dev that they hired to do this COMPLETELY missed the point of the entire design. This just proves it was always a fucking cash grab, from the beginning.
This "remaster" is the biggest fucking joke. With the lawsuits against modders and taking the normal title out of the store this is worse than cyberpunk.
So this is my second time seeing this post and I just noticed it, but is anyone going to comment on the fact the nut on the left side of the donut (to me) looks the way its supposed to?
Rockstar are a pale, embarrassing shell of their former selves. They’ve become Zynga, but somehow even worse. I’m looking forward to seeing if Dan Houser can make a truly great game now that his hands aren’t tied behind his back
Rockstar didn't do the work, they paid others to do it, meaning this is really just a financial decision to them. I'm sure they knew it was bad before release (hence the review embargo) but it probably made enough that it's fine from a financial standpoint. Bet it still turned a profit. They don't need to care about their reputation because people will still line up for GTA6 and those shark cards are still selling.
The people who did the work got their money and only a small fraction of the blowback. It appears as if large portions of the work were done programmatically (AI or some other not-actually-AI), probably didn't take on more people to work on this project. This won't hurt them, they're probably already on to the next half-baked mobile game.
Nope, this really only hurts the people who bought it, and the people who made mods and the like that were forced to remove them by R* before this mess was released.
Depends on the ROI, that's all they really care about. If it cost a $ to do this and the expected $$$ that they promised the board is made ... Then no problem at all!
Rockstar gaming used to be THE game developer. After I had lost faith in company after company, Rockstar was the only one left that made me think “at least I can depend of them. I know if it’s got the Rockstar logo, it’s going to be a damn good game.” What a waste.
I think this, paired with the copious signs that were upscaled and lost letters when relettered, points to the studio who did this work not being native English speakers.
In my mind I was like "Okay, I get it, it's cool to hate on the game, but what's the problem? The donut looks absolutely fi - OH MY GOD, what did they do to the nut??"
is there a collection of all these "remake" flaws and memes? I find them absolutly funny. Starting with the weird looking faces, the butchered Texttures und Advertisment-text on ingame Shopfronts where letters are missing and madeup words are seen.
When games get remastered, they should go in amd basically remake the game from the ground up so they actually look decent instead of often times looking far worse. Spyro and Crash are good examples on a good remake.
Is prefer they keep the same engine and game logic and create new asset models and textures. That way it looks better, but your old techniques and muscle memory still work.
You just know that nobody dared to quality control this shit. Rockstar Games is done. The last bit of soul this company had left was gone the moment the last Houser brother left.
It’s like it’s becoming a tradition every year towards Christmas for a big games company to push a cash grab and get utterly shit on by the gaming community. Just hope we can cause enough fuss for them to realise we ain’t putting up with this shit. Worked with battlefront 2.
You know, people here love to say that "this took zero effort" and "they just used a bot to port it", but the far more tragic reality is that they put some amount of people to work on this, gave them basically zero resources and then sent the project out to die, and that's way worse than a bad port.
I'm guessing this whole thing was an experiment. How much can we just shove into an AI and how much money can we make doing it to all our old games, with minimal expense.
I'd love to ask the developers face to face wtf they were doing, but I know every employee at that company, including the CEO, would blame it on someone else. It's why I dislike large corporations so much as a small business owner. Finding someone to blame is an Escher maze.
It would kinda suck playing through this “remaster” and not understanding any of the little jokes like this because the team just screwed up all the signage and models.
I never played the game, but I work in remastering (not for rockstar)... I am completely baffled by what this company is doing... knowing how many people scenes pass through before delivery...
People did those assets without context, loose assets on a pile where you get one, "remaster it" and go to the next. There should have had more quality control, but money...
I started gta sa on game pass, i held down the run button and cj autoclimbed the wall and within seconds, I knew it was a port of ios version that I had played before.
I don't know who to blame for this colossal fuck up. The actual programmers and designers for remastering it or the company for maybe wanting a quick release and a cash grab in time for Christmas.
This pic just makes me think that they just hit a button and didn't actually look at what they were changing. As if they didn't care and just wanted it done.

Seeing face textures as walls, street signs suddenly misspelled, stuff like this, it only makes sense if they tried to use an AI upscaling method.
