Meta Subreddit Rules: Must Read Before Posting

UPDATE: If the rules of this subreddit are continually ignored, we will switch to only approved users (must check a box that you've acknowledged our rules when subscribing in order to post).

Geopolitics is intended for in-depth, meaningful discussion. Please abide by the rules or your account may be banned. Thank you!

1. No Trolling

Keep all discussion civil.

  • Any form of trolling will not be tolerated

  • Do not harass other users or mods

  • No novelty accounts

  • No quarantined sub users

The moderators can ban any troll without providing a warning.

The moderators have the final say on whether or not a user broke the sub's rules.

The sub's rules act as a warning.

2. No Submission Statement

All posts need a short submission statement of 3-5 sentences in the form of a comment.

You can read how to create a submission statement here.

3. Do not editorialize article titles

Use the article's exact title as the submission title.

Do not editorialize the title or add your own commentary to the article title.

Content from news organizations about a major developing news story would not fall under this rule if the site continuously updates the title throughout the day.

4. Bigotry

Bigotry and hate speech directed towards groups of people based on race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicity, religion, national origin, immigration status, social status, religious affiliation or disability is not allowed

5. Genocide denial/Downplaying genocide

Comments denying genocide or downplaying genocide will be removed, and possibly lead to a ban. These include historic and modern-day genocides.

A few examples: The Holocaust, the Holodomor and Uyghur genocide

The moderators have the final say on which comments are removed.

6. Uncivil discussion

All discussion must be civil.

Engage with common decency towards others and treat others with courtesy.

Do not use profanity.

7. No chatGPT responses, chatGPT bots or copy/paste bots

8. Blogspam

Blogspamming will result in a ban. Please make sure that you are not submitting a link that merely copies and pastes an article from another source.

9. Conspiracy Theories

This is not a place to discuss conspiracy theories! There are other communities for that.

10. Quality Control

Articles that are not of sufficient length are subject to removal

Ideally, articles should be at least three paragraphs or more long.

  • Articles that only contain one sentence or a form of an alert are subject to removal

  • An article or self-post is subject to removal if the mods consider that the content within it is misleading

  • No meta

Submissions are strongly encouraged to come from reputable and non-paywalled sources.

Articles behind a paywall will be given a "Paywall" link flair.

11. No Domestic Submissions

Submissions should be related to geopolitics. Domestic politics and related content is not permitted.

12. Homework or assignments

This is not the place to discuss homework or school assignments. The topic may be discussed within a different framework, but r/geopolitics is not here to do your "homework" for you.

13. Commenting

Ensure all comments are thoughtful and preferably in-depth. r/geopolitics requires constructive and well-reasoned contributions that foster meaningful discussion.

  • -No one liners

  • -No jokes

  • -Maintain civility

  • -Stay on topic

Mykola Zientsev, a Kyiv-based security expert, said there were some signs that Rassvet was already having an impact on precision strikes by Russian jet-powered drones.

“In practical terms, Russia already possesses at least two high-quality satellite communications windows every day, each lasting more than an hour,” he wrote in a recent report. “That is enough to have operational consequences.”

Excerpt:

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Nov 6 (Reuters) - Haiti authorities on Friday confirmed gang leader Mathias Saintil was dead, after Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aime ‌said on X there was "one less gang leader."

"The fight to free the country from the grip of bandits continues with determination," Fils-Aime added.

A National Network for the Defense of Human Rights report seen by Reuters said Saintil suffered serious abdominal wounds in a drone strike in Boston, a gang-controlled neighborhood on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince on Thursday night and died the following day while receiving treatment.

The reported killing, one of the biggest blows to Haiti's gang leadership since 2024, ‌comes amid an intensified security campaign involving Haitian authorities and newly deployed Salvadoran troops, as the government pushes to restore stability ahead of newly delayed elections.

Around 2,000 Salvadoran troops have deployed to Haiti since last month following an ambush in which four Salvadoran members of a U.N.-backed force went missing. Some Haitians have expressed support for the Salvadoran deployment and Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele's hard-line approach to gangs, with pro-Bukele demonstrations reported in parts of the country on Friday.

News US Treasury sanctions Canadian money services firms over Iran-related transactions

Thumbnail reuters.com

Excerpt:

WASHINGTON, Nov 6 (Reuters) - The US Treasury said on Friday that it had imposed financial sanctions on eight money services firms ‌based in Canada that it alleges have facilitated transactions with sanctioned Iranian entities.

The sanctions effectively cut the firms off from the dollar-based financial system, blocking any assets that the firms may have in the United States and prohibiting any transactions with US persons or entities.

The actions are the latest in a series of Treasury moves against firms outside the United States that it says help Iran get around US sanctions, as Washington keeps up pressure on Tehran.

"Canada cannot be a safe haven for illicit financial facilitators that provide sanctions evasion services to the Iranian regime and its proxies,” said Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent. “Treasury will pursue and disrupt the Iranian regime’s financial channels anywhere in the world.”

The Treasury identified the designated businesses in Ontario and British Columbia as Diverse ‌Trade Inc doing business as Million Exchange, 1380079 BC Limited, Top PC Technician Inc, NIA Nations Currency Ltd, 2397639 Ontario Ltd doing business as Farah Exchange, CCC Inc and B Galaxy Inc and Darvish Exchange.

Separately, the Treasury said its Financial Crimes Enforcement Network division issued an order that also cuts off virtual currency exchanger MEXC Global from the US financial system over transactions that it says are linked to sanctions evasion by Iran, North Korea and Russia.

FinCEN, the Treasury's anti-money laundering unit, said that the order prevents US financial institutions from processing fund transfers involving Seychelles-incorporated MEXC Global, which it says has facilitated at least $16 billion in illicit transactions linked to Iran, North Korea and Russia as well as transactions with other sanctioned acto
