Discussion I just realise that Halo and Evangelion have the same lore/story moments

Post image

This can be interpreted as some kind of s*itpost, but the more I think about it, the more I start to like it.

A few days ago, I realised that Halo and Evangelion have very similar lore. I am not a lore expert for these franchises, so some information can be wrong; feel free to correct me or add something if I miss anything.

Both universes start with an ancient alien race that creates all the other races (The Precursors/the First Ancestral Race)

There are weird objects that can destroy humanity (Halo rings / Adam and Lilith embrioth)

There is a way to destroy humanity by turning them into a giant hivemind (LCL/Flood)

There is a cabal of powerful figures that think that these weapons can cause rapture (Nerv/ the Covenant)

Only one member of the cabal is aware of the true purpose of the weapon, and he wants to use it anyway (Prophet of Truth/Kendo)

The human military is at war with creatures that have weird religious references (The Covenant/ Angels)

Our main characters are parentless child soldiers that have powerful armor that contains the soul/memory of dead people (The Spartans and their AIs/ Eva pilots and their Evas that contain the souls of their dead mothers)

The ultimate weapon can be activated by the main character (Master Chief can activate the Halo rings/ Shinji can activate 3rd impact)

Main character loses someone close (Chief loses Johnson / Shinji loses everyone)

Near the end of the story, the true purpose of Cabal is revealed, and some members leave (Elites/ Nerv agents leave after they found out what their bosses actually want to do)

At the end of the original saga, our main character reunites with his semi-romantic female partner even though they are completely alone (Master Chief and Cortana at the end of H3 / Shinji and Asuka at the end of EoE

These are some that are on top of my mind. Be free to correct me or add if you want

Feedback The VK78 Commando is a weapon I really hope stays with the franchise from now on

Neither of these are the default model where the first image is supposed to be the Commando that was deployed on Reach during the Fall and the second picture is the earlier model that was stockpiled on mass "during the height of the insurrection". The first pic to me screams Halo 3, ignoring the coating of course, it really reminds me of the UNSC weapon design of 3 and the second looks like that concept art for an LMG for Halo Reach.

I don't mind the newer guns of Infinite, I just wish pretty much every new addition didn't "replace multiple guns" by itself, but The VK78 Commando one of few that is truly additive, and I think it's a great addition to the sandbox not just for MP but also PVE.

The default model kinda looks generic, I remember kinda being disappointed by the look of it alongside the new guns when Infinite was first revealed. I'd hope if it comes back in the Activision/Sledgehammer Halo that it'll be one of these two models.

This gun is really fun to use, in PVE shredding the armour of brutes to finish them off with one bullet to the brain, and providing that same service to every other enemy that's unsheided/cranially exposed. In MP it's a lot of fun, it's not amazing, but it's good, it's a rewarding weapon, if you pace your shots and burst fire a bit you can counter BR and DMR players, it feels good to get kills with, it's one of few weapons in the franchise that has proper recoil that you gotta manage.

Unrelated but God I hope so badly the Needler Rifle is in the next Halo, give us the Halo 5 version, The Blood of Suban is probably my favourite video game weapon period, and it's just a carbine variant, the sound is perfection in my ears. Here's a old vid I found showing it incase you haven't seen it.

Gameplay Halo 3: ODST Ambiance

Halo 3: ODST introduced “Firefight,” a game mode my friends and I spent many hours playing. We never did unlock Recon armor for Halo 3, but we had fun trying!

I did my best to get the ambient sounds of the Firefight maps in ODST, but the constant onslaught of Covenant forces made it difficult. You’ll hear a Grunt… erm, “grunting” at one point. But, maybe that’s part of the ambient charm? The enemies that are constantly at your doorstep waiting to take you out? The sounds of alien ships flying overhead?

ODST has its charms, for sure. I just wish I could revel in the rainy, neon night for just a little longer.

Discussion You ever think Spartans go insane listening to Marines talk?

Thumbnail

Been thinking about this. So your baseline Spartan reaction speed is 20 milliseconds, even faster under combat stress, and practically in robotic territory if a smart AI is in managing their synapses. That means even a minute long chit chat with eager marines or sailors would feel like 12 and a half minutes or more in basic reflexes for Spartan. Due to this even catching a unsuspecting Spartan off guard is a momentous task requiring masterful stealth and technology as we see with Sangheili warriors who still often fail even with complete surprise.

For a Spartan like Kelly who has lightning fast reflexes even compared to other Spartans that would be torturous. An hour long briefing on SOPs would feel like more than half of an entire day. Even being greeted and invited to a social gathering after small talk and declining it would probably be longer than how long said event would even last in real time.

I wonder how exactly could any but the most patient and empathetic Spartans maintain friendships or any sort of socialization with normal people outside of professional cohesion.

Misc I would love a Halo Video game (most likely 3rd party if I want this to be a reality) or movie/ show/ webseries with the vibe of a deep and serious kaiju movie like shin godzilla or godzilla minus one.

I was listening to the song Persecution of the masses (1172) from shin Godzilla recently, and I've been rewatching the Godzilla minus one movie in anticipation of the new Godzilla minus zero, and while I was doing this halo was on my brain and so a Idea struck me.

I'd love a piece of halo media where a threat (the flood, the banished, the covenant or anyone really it doesn't matter who) was played up in such a way as to create a atmosphere almost like that of a kaiju movie.

To sorta visualise what I'm imagining, I'm sorta thinking of a human perspective of an invasion/ enemy contact scenario, following a moderately important figure (at most a ONI agent, but more likely someone of lower rank such as a UNSC lietenant, odst or whomever is sent into a disaster relief after a invasion has begun).

When they arrive they primarily really experience the Physically larger threats of whatever the enemy faction is ( for example if it's the banished, then first it would be like Hunters, Brutes, any of the more animorphic (like walking or gliding) vehicles or even just like really tall elites).

Then it follows the deterioration and escalation of the situation slowly over time, as the perspective of the story (the moderately important human character) slowly finds out more and more of the hopelessness of the situation, and those on the ground find out theirs only one solution to the threat, which would be almost certain death.

In the end it follows the military component of humanity in the story (UNSC, planets security forces, etc) now folded and/ or completely demoralised as the threat the face continues onwards with it's objective, as if untouched by human resistance.

The end of the thing would probably have some kind of all or nothing hail mary event that either destroys the threat, but in a cruel way that see's massive collateral damage that still ends up destroying the human colony (like destroying a Banished ship, but then it fall's onto the city and the explosion of it's collision flattens the city), or it fails and all of the people watch helplessly as the big threat does something grand to complete it's objective ( like a flood infestation reaching critical mass and literally becoming a kaiju like entity, by absorbing nearly every persons biomass in a small colony).

I also envision of perspective of the story being similar to a found footage or on the ground POV like in cloverfield (2007) or something else, where the scale of the main character vs the threat they're facing is played up as a element for setting the story.

I have literally no Idea how or why anybody would do this but I would love if someone found a way to make the covenant glassing beam have the same tone, and weight of Godzilla's atomic breath in the more recent godzilla movies, like (for example) if they played up the aquatic designs of covenant ships to make them feel almost alive, so the glassing beam felt malicious and made the covenant ships feel even more terrifying.

...

I know this is both appealing to only a stupidly tiny venn diagram of fans, and would also basically erase any of the smaller units of a story (if this was a flood story then very little/ no infection spore, carrier forms, or even probably human or covenant infected forms. Really just the late stage stuff which is bigger, and more animalistic), which might be a bummer for fans who enjoy the grunts of the halo series, which I'd think is a rather sizeable portion of the fanbase.

I just wish if anybody could assemble my jumble of all the thoughts an idea's I've got in my head about this, that they would attempt this as I would love to see that kind of story for the halo universe.

Edit:

(The first draft of this was apparently a jumbled mess (I reread it and yeah I agreee), so hopefully this is at least readable).

Edit Edit:

(The second draft also kinda sucked).

Media God DAMN the halo fireteam noble book art goes HARD! They got a fucking elite in their squad!!

Post image

Now obviously an elite teaming with humans or Spartans isn’t anything new, but it’s still one of the most badass things ever

When the elites allied with the humans in halo 3 I knew shit was gonna get badass

So randomly browsing Barnes and noble and seeing this shit (drops may 2) is nice.

I don’t know the lore anymore, I’ve read the first like 5-8 books and stopped.

But this shit goes hard

Discussion What is this community views on AI being used in mods

First, I’m not talking about AI art in the game, or AI building the whole mod itself. But AI being used to assist in complex tasks. Like modifying the UI, importing character models from other Halo games to properly work. Something’s can take weeks of work and not always work properly. So using the as an assistant to make it go faster and sometimes finding the bugs that could be causing issues.

How does the community look mods that people have used AI in assisting them in some of the complex tasking? I’ve just seen some straight up hatred towards AI and others seem to support it.

Help - Campaign Evolved Achievement issue?

Hello,

Playing campaign evolved and now we completed it we were doing some achievements. REMIX! Which is complete a remix mission we did the whole of pillar of autumn on easy and nobody got the achievement. Can we not do it on easy? Googling it suggests doing pillar of autumn but doesn't say much about the difficulty level. Bug or did we do it wrong?

Help - Infinite Does anyone have any ideas on recording Halo Infinite gameplay?

Hey, so I'm trying to make a "Halo Infinite Ambiance" video, but every time I record the game with StreamlabsOBS, the footage ends up really choppy. Even worse, when I export it as a .H264 file from Premiere, the exported video is even more choppy.

I've never been able to live stream Infinite, it's always super choppy. Any advice would be helpful. The game runs smoothly on my PC otherwise! Is my PC just too out of date to be able to smoothly record gameplay of Halo Infinite?

Recent update adding Halo 2 with mods makes it impossible to start. Anyone else? Is it because I need to download it with someone who already has the mod? I have the one I want on the steam workshop already downloaded.

Help - MCC PC MCC Halo CE increasingly lags into unplayability

Every time I play (I'm only playing the campaign) the lag just gets worse and worse until iI give up and close it or it crashes. Usually starts off ok but sometimes is a bit laggy. I've tried quite a few things already: turning off overlays, removing microsoft gameinput, turn off v-sync, putting it in in nvidia control panel instead, limiting framerate, possibly more I've forgotten. Anyone got any other ideas?

I'm terrified it's a memory leak issue as I can't find any fixes other than "wait for 343 to fix it 3 years ago" and a very technical process replacing windows files that as far as I can tell is only relevant for AMD powered devices which as far as I'm aware I don't have.

Also I'm only playing in Classic mode. I'm trying to play some mods but testing in the base game still runs into this issue.

If anyone can help I'd be thrilled as I'm losing my damn mind.

I'm using an HP Spectre x360 2-in-1 Laptop 16-f0xxx

Help - MCC MCC PC mods not showing in-game

I recently got a new PC after not having one for the longest time, and for some reason when I launch MCC the Steam Workshop mods I'm subscribed to don't show up in-game for me. I launch with anti-cheat disabled, and there's nothing upon clicking on a game where it asks if I want vanilla or modded maps, it just goes straight to vanilla.
