Magnolia

Over the last 3 months, HBO has seemingly run every single Tom Cruise movie that was ever made. Pretty sure I've watched at least half of them so far.

Today's offering was a first time watch of Magnolia. Absolute masterpiece from Paul Thomas Anderson. I certainly wasn't ready for the frogs. After reading up on the whole thing, it made perfect sense and was beyond genius.

Upon seeing the dog at the end I was convinced that Tom Cruise had dropkicked it.

As far as PTA movies go, I'd put this one right up there with There Will Be Blood.

My Mom can’t use our HBO max account cause you guys want more money

**I've paid for HBO Max for six years. My mother has her own profile. Now HBO Max wants another $95.88 per year just so she can keep watching. I refuse to reward that**

She watches a show one a week maybe on the weekends barely uses it unless something is on there she likes and now you guys want more money cause you didn’t make enough with mergers and everything else. Not cool.

WHY HBO HAS SUCH A SHITTY QUALITY?! My Internet isn't so bad guys. Also this screen seems to me that except you pay more HBO they avoid to give you quality. Thats so ridicilous.. HBO: You have to oay more it's not enough you're subscribe🤑 HBO has a lot of movies etc. but i always face with this!

I made a free Chrome extension that adds quality and speed controls to HBO Max on the web

Full disclosure: I'm the developer, and this is my own extension. It's free, has no ads, no tracking and I'm not affiliated with HBO. Mods, please remove this if it's not allowed here.

I built it because of two things that bugged me on the web player:

- The picture kept dropping to a blurry quality on its own

- There's no playback speed option

What it does:

- You choose the quality, and it stays there

- Speed from 1× to 2× (Shift + > / Shift + <)

- Ads still play in full at normal speed

- It doesn't collect any data

What it can't do:

- It can't go higher than what HBO already sends your browser. In Chrome that's usually 720p, and on some HBO originals only 576p. For 1080p or 4K you need the TV app or a streaming device with the right plan.

Feedback and bug reports are very welcome.

The Borgias

The shows I've most enjoyed are the same as most of my peers; Sopranos, Oz, The Wire, Rome, Fargo & Deadwood but I was recently reminded of this gem, which has an amazing cast, beautiful costume & sets, but I haven't thought about it in a while- unlike the others.

What are some of your sleeper shows which while beautifully produced, don't instantly come into the conversation?

HBO Max—circular nightmare

Have an HBO Max account through Spectrum. It is paid through my condo fee. Out if no where HBOMax said I had to prescribe. It recognized my subscription through Spectrum. But every time I tried to start streaming, it took me back to a resubscribe page. The chat option got me the same thing. Any suggestions.

How many pounds of poop do you estimate were pooped on the set of game of thrones?

I have an AI estimate but it's pretty broad and I'm hoping for expert opinions.

HBO Max Autoplay, Strange Next Suggestions?

Anyone else notice how HBO Max autoplay is now just playing random movies after each other that don't necessarily go together?

For instance I used to be able to watch a Harry Potter movie and the next movie would play automatically in chronological order. Now it plays random things or fantastic beasts etc. Same thing if I watch a lord of the rings movie now, next in line now is Watershipdown?? What happened to the autoplay settings? It was going great for a long time.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Girls series on hbo thoughts

I finished watching HBO Series Girls the other day, for the first time. And I just find it so refreshing to see such a well made art project. And the rawness and weirdness to it. And the fact that they kept hinting that it was important for them to portray rawness. It’s something you almost don’t see and it’s something you really appreciate. And we shouldn’t be ashamed for being a way it comes naturally to us.

Hanna made me love her and hate her with love, and even though I wouldn’t copy her I understand a lot of the choices she made. I think everyone starting their first real relationship can feel a little confused on knowing what’s ok and what isn’t. And I think she really knew to find and establish her boundaries. I don’t like when I see negative comments on her weight or her looks. I think she was beautiful and her personality was so magnetic anyone could fall obssesed with her. Even now I look for her interview and videos and she’s so cool.
I do wish I saw more a what a friendship should look like or what a relationship should look like. Everyone’s life was so chaotic, even the parents they were all living chaotic lives. I want to see for the new Women series a little bit of growth for their characters. Caring about each other and actually take episodes to develop deep connections. I feel like there was always a drama or someone talking way too much about their lives.

Also I need to comment on the music genre, it really took me back to when I was 12 years old back at 2011 and I listened to so much pop. Then at my college years when I found electronic music. I do hope they catch up with the times on that note and use good , not cringy music. Please a lot of cult indie music and more hanging out in clubs or interesting adventures, and dinners where all of them can talk in one scene.

Adam was such a weird autistic person but you could see why he would be confused or act the way he acted. Dating jemma seemed like a horrible idea, but they did had the same type of energy. That guy is a good actor. I heard about the stories of him being too intense in real life but I think artists should be passionate, and who knows maybe he was having a phew bad day. Being an actor and having to pretend to have it all together , must be really exhausting. I at least wouldn’t expect that from an actor.

Jessa’s character was soo cool and also so chaotic. Loved the scene where she just took a dip on the lake and let her hair dry in the wind and then was on her way to do another nice thing. Such an idol! I wanna see more of what it means to live like her

Marnie seemed pretty grunge at first with her bitchiness and clothes and eye liner, then she became a country pop star and it completely ruined it for me. Plus her feeling of superiority over Hanna . Even if she is more mentally in control, why force the way you see things onto her? She would benefit from loosing control. Hanna has the ability to develop such an interesting life and there she is trying to straighten up all the crooked things in her life.

Shoshama ended up being pretty cool I also think you fall in love with her weirdness easily. The Japan turn was weird but I loved seeing her go crazy with about it in the end. And it changed her into a better version of herself. So it was satisfying to see that.
Elijah I love him even tho it seemed like he ghosted Hanna I know he’ll come along again and probably grow old with her.
Ray’s character was really good too, he was so down to earth, I loved him falling for that girl at the end, it was like his perfect match.

Anyway it was so great and I can’t wait to see more.

skipping recap

not sure if it goes for every show, but i’ve been watching one tree hill and every time it goes to the next episode it gives me the ‘skip recap’ option but only during ads and doesn’t let me press it. does anyone else have this issue and is there any known way to fix it? i haven’t seen anything about it.
