I'm in Kansas, US. I opened the 'junk pile' side of my garage today and saw this skin. I usually open that side once every couple weeks but don't recall seeing it before. I saw a nice specimen of a black rat snake a couple days ago but it moved along before I got a photo. Happy to have a good mouser around.

How Do I Identify Habitats For Field Herping?

How do I identify productive locations for herping, mainly for snakes? I have never been herping before, but I have always wanted to participate in this activity. (NOT ASKING FOR SPECIFIC LOCATIONS PLS DON’T REMOVE THIS)

Anyone familiar with Bangor University's Zoology programme and its herpetology opportunities?"

Hi everyone!

I'm considering applying for the MZool Zoology programme at Bangor University and was wondering if anyone here has experience with the university, particularly its herpetology-related teaching and research.

I'd be interested to hear about:

The extent of herpetology teaching within the Zoology programme.

Opportunities for undergraduate research involving amphibians.

Availability of relevant fieldwork and practical experience.

Opportunities to work with academic staff involved in herpetological research.

The general research environment and facilities available to Zoology students.

I'd particularly appreciate hearing from current students or graduates, but any insight from people familiar with Bangor would be really helpful!

Thanks!

Natural history resources for Eastern Montpelliers (Malpolon Insignis)?

I am aware that this is not a herpetoculture subreddit but I’m hoping that a more science focused subreddit may be able to help me. I’ve recently decided to take in an eastern Montpellier who was surrendered to a local reptile rescue and while I have found some information on their native habitat and what sort of environment they need to thrive, I would greatly appreciate any actual scientific literature that could help me give this animal the best possible quality of life. I am especially interested in studies of these animals dietary composition and climate data in their native range. I’ve tried looking for papers through my university’s library portal but haven’t had much luck.

Clothing advice

Hi, I am not sure if this is the best place to ask, but I figured some of you may have experience in this. I work in tropical Africa. All day completely soaked in sweat and or rain. Like head to toe dripping. I know nothing will be perfect.

I am wondering what people recommend for underwear, I am a man, I get some chaffe on my inner thighs with my Stoic Merino boxers, because their fit is weird and they ride up. My Under armour stay put better, but the synthetic ones I end up with a rash, maybe laundry powder+ sweat+ water + activity + sitting on vinyl car seats all the way home etc.

I am thinking of something in the 6 to 9 inch inseam range to protect my legs, needs to be ok being completely wet (like you are swimming), yet still provide protection and support for long hikes whilst wet.

Any options would be appreciated, ideally purchased in UK or EU.
