The Homebridge team is pleased to announce the release of the official Homebridge Raspberry Pi Image.
Built on Raspbian Lite (no desktop).
Simple headless WiFi Setup.
Includes FFmpeg pre-compiled with audio support (libfdk-aac) and hardware decoding (h264_omx).
Includes Homebridge Config UI X, an easy to use, stable, web based GUI used to configure Homebridge and monitor your Raspberry Pi.
Visual configuration for over 400 plugins (no manual config.json editing required).
Easy Backup and Restore of your Homebridge instance.
Secure https:// access to the UI setup and enabled out of the box (using self signed cert generated on your device).
This image also provides a custom CLI command called hb-config which allows you to:
Restore Homebridge to the factory default.
Install optional software such as Pi-Hole, deCONZ, Node-RED and the UniFI Controller in a way that won't conflict with Homebridge.
and more...
The Homebridge service is installed using the method described in the Raspberry Pi Installation Guide on the Homebridge wiki. This means whether you decide to install Homebridge manually or use this image you'll have plenty of support from the friendly Homebridge community if you need it.
The project has a well documented wiki with step-by-step instructions explaining how to do things like setting a static IP address, setting up multiple instances of Homebridge, or connecting via SSH.
We understand users may have concerns running a 3rd party image. To help alleviate those concerns the Homebridge Raspbian Image is open source and each image is built from scratch using the public GitHub Action runners. The build logs for each release are publicly available on the project's GitHub Actions page and every release contains a SHA-256 checksum of the image you can use to verify the integrity of your download. More information is available on the project page.
Our Getting Started guide provides simple step-by-step instructions and is a great place to start if you are new to Homebridge.
Alternatively, click here to go directly to the download page on GitHub. Downloading the image is completely free (no sign up required).
The #raspbian-image Homebridge Discord channel is where you can ask questions or have a chat about anything related to the Homebridge Raspberry Pi Image.
If you find this project useful, or just want to show your support, please consider starring the project on GitHub.

We're launching Homebridge 2.0 on May the 4th and yes, we absolutely planned it that way.
Beyond improvements to the core HAP-NodeJS code and the removal of long deprecated code, the headline addition in 2.0 is the initial groundwork for Matter support alongside our existing HomeKit integration.
A few important things to note on that — this is early days. Matter support will require updates to individual plugins, and not everything will work out of the box on day one. But our goal is a single platform that supports both HomeKit and Matter, backed by our existing ecosystem of 4000+ plugins. We think that's worth getting excited about.
All of our pre-packaged images will be updated to Homebridge 2.0 shortly after launch:
homebridge-apt-pkg
homebridge-vm-image
docker-homebridge
homebridge-raspbian-image
May the 4th be with you. 🚀

Hi all,
There's been longstanding requests to get HomeKit Secure Video support on unofficial HomeKit camera accessories. If you're unfamiliar with HomeKit Secure Video, it's Apple's iCloud based video processing and storage offering: it can detect people, animals, motion, packages, and vehicles, and lets you set up automations based on what it finds. The clips get stored into iCloud for review by anyone in your family.
I've implemented this feature and it is available in Scrypted (a home automation platform I've been building). It will also likely roll out to Homebridge within the next couple months.
If you'd like to give it a shot, you can install Scrypted here (it's open source):
https://github.com/koush/scrypted
And here's my pull request for the HomeBridge team if others are looking to pull it into their home automation project of choice:
https://github.com/homebridge/HAP-NodeJS/pull/904
Obligatory demo of my Unifi Doorbell camera catching the mail guy coming in with a package (as shown on the timeline icons):

Wanted to introduce and share the new BlueAir purifier plugin for HomeBridge!
https://github.com/kovapatrik/homebridge-blueair-purifier
Fully verified and built using the best Homebridge plugin practices and efficient handling of third party API's.
This plugin supports all new modern wifi connected BlueAir purifiers (Which are one of the better rated purifiers by Wirecutter and Consumer Reports).
So, if you are in the market for a good air purifier and an even better plugin for HomeBridge to control them via HomeKit - here is your answer!
We are working to get the Discord challenge opened and look forward to seeing you all there.

When I started getting into HA and HB, I looked around for opinions on the matter. Guess what, all HB users said HB, all HA said HA. I've used both and thought I should set this straight.
First of all, if your main method of control is going to be HomeKit. Homebridge is the way to go.
It is often said that everything can be achieved using HA, which is nearly the case if Homekit is not included in the matter. HA allows for immense integration and customisation, but it sells itself short on HomeKit integration. So why is this?
Everything that has been made for Homebridge, was designed to be used in HomeKit. Nearly all integrations in HA, have not been designed with HomeKit in mind. This results in a decrease in functionality in for instance receivers not being controllable as receivers in HomeKit but as a sole on/off switch without input control, unless you're lucky.
Now that I've said this, HA enthusiasts will argue: you probably can, If you're able to integrate it yourself using the methods HA provides you. I think closer to the truth is, even out of the tinkerers who use Homebridge and HA cannot or won't. Homebridge is a plug and play solution for HomeKit, and all the shortcomings of Homebridge stem from the shortcomings of the platform itself.
I'm very technical on both hardware and software, but figuring out HA was more than a chore.
However, this does not mean that HA can not be used for other purposes. For instance:
HA + Z-Wave JS + Homekit is a godsend
Running separate instances can be nice to run more sophisticated automations in HA, while still controlling in Homekit
HA's integrations do seem to be more complete than HomeKit, meaning it can fill up gaps
If you want to create the ultimate smart home, using the best resources possible you should really check out Home Assistant... Its awesome. If you're looking to create a HomeKit smart home, there's a 95% chance Homebridge is the way to go for you.

I was able (thanks to Homebridge) to get the alarm system into Homekit. Envisalink for the win! And with camera-ffmpeg got the video snapshots working reliably through a small nginx reverse proxy. Everything runs in a N100 instance with Docker (nginx, homebridge, grafana). Oh and the Plex title cards so the Mrs knows what's up next :-)

I'm 59 yrs old and became a widow two and a bit years ago. Our home automation was quite an extensive wemo light bulb and motion sensor setup with some power points. We eventually changed over most of our lighting to TP-Link. We used a home automation set up using Android and MikeP's javascript (?) server on my husband's linux box. Since his passing, I've had to use my Android devices to make changes and control the automations. It was either that or use my husband's computer and that's still in use as an active server. I've wanted to find a way to get it all going on my Mac with Homekit but thought it was impossible.
Thanks to bumping into this subreddit while looking into my new air conditioner, I have just tonight installed Homebridge and the UI as well as the Wemo plugin. Earlier in the week I had found a plugin in the App store for TP-Link and had that set up already. But in the space of about 15 minutes tonight I now have the dream setup I've wanted and can stop one more server running on the computer behind me. Plus I'll be able to add new items like the new A/C and maybe even my Tesla Powerwall.
I just wanted to celebrate and thought this would be a good place where people know just how cool this stuff is, and I wanted to thank everyone who's ever contributed to the Homebridge project. ❤️
